Leon is a much better player than Sproles. Sproles is an ok RB but has other intangibles. Leon also has those intangibles, AND he is a better RB than Sproles. Sproles contract was ridiculous. U don't match ridiculous contracts. If you want to match em, u have to ask Davis or Snyder to do so, not Woody.
Trust me, Millions a yr is a huge salary. I feel for Leon, and I think he will get his dues sooner than later. But to defend them saying they have so much time to maximize earnings isn't a good excuse.
The difference between what the Jets offered and what Leon was said to be looking for was negligible when you took into account the fact that he would have had to have waited a year to get the bigger contract and play for peanuts last season rather than millions. This is assuming that there wasn't anything way out of line with guaranteed money or back loading of the deal.
Ridiculous though Sproles' contract may be, SD have put a first and third on him. He ain't going to be skint any time soon, minimum he's getting next year is the $7.3M tender and that could have an effect on Leon's value to the market.
It's not? Someone was going to pay this guy. After 30, he's getting paid a few bills here and there to do car experiences, with a family that's used to the lifestyle he provided for a decade. He should get every dollar he's capable of getting, especially in a league that doesn't have guaranteed contracts. -X-
OK, so now we are talking about a whole family. Should the players get paid more if they have a bigger family? If you're wise, you would save most of the 'millions' and invest them smartly. I don't really feel for a player who makes $3-4 mil a year. I know Leon doesn't make $3-4 mil a yr, but chances are, he will pretty soon. By the time his career is over, barring any injuries, Im pretty sure he would have collected about $20 mils. Take out taxes and other agent commission and he still would have pocketed atleast $10 mil in his 8-10 yrs career. I don't feel bad for a guy who pockets, on average, about $3000 every day for 10 years.

I will trust you that millions of dollars a year is a nice salary. The last comment is idiotic though. Thomas Jones is 32 years old, and we cut him partially because he was too old. LT is 30 years old right now, and people think he's done. Old runningbacks are like the plague. For an RB, get paid what you can, while you can. Leon is 27 years old right now, 28 on opening day. At his size, how much longer do you think he has left in his career? He's probably already in the 2nd half of his career, given the lifespan of most NFL players. Hard to pick a side in this case. The Jets lowballed Leon at first. What reports are saying about the Jets' last offers make it seem like Keels's fault. Keels says that those reports aren't true, and the Jets offer wasn't nearly that nice, so they gambled and played out the season. Looked like a good risk given Leon's lack of an injury history. It backfired, and while the Jets missed Leon, they made it to the AFC Championship without him.
The only problem is Sproles doesn't have a contract. Keels was basing his demands on the fact that Sproles was tagged last season. As you can see from the Chargers' struggles this offseason over how to deal with Sproles, they obviously don't feel he's worth the kind of money he's demanding.
From what everyone says, the draft is very, very deep. With a 2nd round tender, even though I love Leon to death, I might love a new aditional 2 better, even though we'd be down to 1 back for the moment. Thoughts? Sorry, if this has been discussed.
