I was listening to Beningo before talking about TJ.
According to Beningo the Jets are going to let TJ go tomorrow so as not to have to pay his roster bonus but are still going to try and re-sign him.
Isn't this a violation to the final 8 rule? I mean, once TJ is an UFA doesn't that preclude the Jets from signing him?

he was cut. the rule does not apply to players who were released; only to players who's contract expired

yes any player cut is free game to all the teams including the final 8.
i hope we re sign him for half the price. $6 mill is a big nut for a 31 year old.
its better to be ahead of the curve then to hit it.

    This.

There are also no restrictions on signing your own UFA's back.

Nah. He's cut. He has/d 1 more season with us. If '09 was his last year with us last year, he wouldn't have been mentioned in roster bonus talks. He would've just been gone.

Son, he signed a 4 year $20 mil contract in 2007 that would go for 2007,08,09, and 2010.

I just thought I'd chime in as the 15th person that says he was cut and we can sign him under the F8P. By the way, if you want to dispute the idea that he was cut, maybe you should go onto the official site that states clearly that he will be CUT from the team.

It doesn't matter whether he was cut or not if he's our FA anyway. We can sign any cut player AND anyone on the roster last year. We could sign TJ two ways!

Wouldn't be nice if people did this:

I don't know something...... let me go find the answer on my own.

Contracts in the NFL are somewhat illusory since a player can be cut at any time. TJ was cut because at his age and mileage he is no longer worth the salary that he was worth a few years ago. He has been an excellent RB and one of the best players on the team for several seasons. Hopefully he continues to be productive and have a great career. But the Jets probably made a smart business move in opting to shed that salary given the emergence of Greene and Leon.

even if the Final 8 rule was in effect, which it isn't, how would it preclude us from signing him? the Final 8 rule allows you to sign a free agent for every free agent that you lose, thus the fact that TJ would be a free agent inherently means we are able to sign him because his being a free agent would mean we lost a free agent, him, and could sign another free agent in his place, even if that free agent was TJ.

not to mention how simply asinine it would be for the NFL to create a rule where a team could not sign its own free agent.

The more I think about this, the more this doesn't make sense.

TJ is not gonna re-sign with us for a 1 year deal for 2-3M. Re-signing him to a 2-3 year deal would be more retarded than giving him his money this year. There's no way the FO will guarantee him much money, if any, and even if they did, I'm almost sure it'll be low enough for any other team in the market for a proven RB to counter it.

TJ is as good as gone.
