Not TJ. Even the Jets organization wasn't sure of him as the reports suggest there was a 50/50 chance he'd be back. As for Lito, yeah. But maybe someone picks em up not taking the risk of them reaching FA, hence a late round compensation.
How bout foreshadowing a few big moves: New deals for Revis, Mangold, Brick, Edwards, and possibly Leon.
In related news, my neighbor's retarded nephew speculates that "the Jets could very well trade for Andre Johnson, Drew Brees AND Elroy Jetson before draft day. Ouch, my hamster just bit me."
Lito Sheppards signing will not give us the opportunity to sign a new player at that rate. It was just discussed a few posts prior to yours. Im not sure how much stock I'd put into that report but right now, thats all we have believe in or not.
Jason from nyjetscap.com is one of the best out there. He understands contracts better than anyone else I know if, including the Jets beat writers. He does his homework, so when he says that declining Sheppard's option does NOT make him a UFA, I tend to believe it.
lol not signing lito with a 10 million bonus and not signing jones makes them think we are making a big off season move? Wtf is this guy thinking.
Supposedly, the coaches let him know in the last few weeks of the regular season they were decreasing his workload to pave the way to Shonn Greene. Granted, we didn't find that out til after the fact (from Cimini no less) but that wouldn't be the least bit surprising and a tell tale sign they had no intention of having him on the roster for 2010
That, or maybe we can somehow auto-block any post with the words Bleacher Report in them. I think you can do that with email.
Hence, the late rounder as assurance the other team gets their guy BEFORE they hit the FA and risking not getting em. Not sure what TJs actual value would be but Im pretty sure there would be a few teams who would have wanted to offer say a 6th rounder just so they land TJ instead of the FA risk. I would love the Jets to pick up Jones from the FA at a lower price tag, but someone will offer him starting salary.
I read on Bleacher Report that Brady AND Manning will get released. We should sign both of them incase one of them goes down. Sanchez can learn from them as well.
No possible way this team wants to sign Dunta Robinson. The top cornerback on the market always, always gets way more than he's really worth. It happens over and over, and it's about to happen again when Dunta clears 10 mil a year, despite being nowhere close to that level of player. If you need your memory refreshed, see Nate Clements. Go a few notches down on the free agent market and you can do great (ie the Saints signing Jabari Greer), but the corner getting the attention is a guy you only sign if youre desperate. We aren't desperate for a number one, we're lacking a number two, and thats a big difference. The idea that the Jets will have a 'big signing' is kind of ridiculous on its face, simply put, because there's no feasible way the Jets could sign Julius Peppers or Dunta Robinson even if they wanted to, for reasons that have been very well documented. I think Antrel Rolle is a very, very real possibility, in fact I'd be shocked if the Jets didn't go all out in pursuit of Rolle, but I wouldn't market that as an NFL offseason headliner signing. Of course, signing Rolle would pretty much be contingent on having a deal in place to trade Rhodes for worthwhile compensation, which could be difficult, but there's no way this front office isn't trying.
