Are their any FA/available RBs not completely out of gas? Call me paranoid, but one poor-timed injury and the offense is dead in the water. I hope Tanny's keeping his phone on
+1 Thomas Jones was a hell of a pick up. The guy had a few damn good seasons here. I really appreciate all he's done in green and white, but he's not worth what he's due. What now? ...especially if Leon Washington gets swapped for a second rounder. Shonn Greene is clearly our back of the future, but I think we need more than one of those in this scheme. Running back is a much bigger need than many people think. Greene's shown that he's a fragile back. Hopefully we'll be able to pick up a powerful veteran or draft a running back in the upcoming draft.
Mr. Electric are there any late round gems or running backs available that you know of.... sorry about before
Thomas jones is one of a few running backs right now who can handle a 300 carry season. That was rare and a big asset. It will be interesting to see now whether greene and leon can do it together. I thank him for his time, but I'm not sure how good he really was for this team. I feel his numbers may inflate how good he is in the mind of sum. He didn't fumble, but he always had trouble finding the hole, dancing a bit too much in the backfield. Leon and shone always seemed to hit the hole fast and see the hole.
Guys like Chauncey Washington don't make me too confident. Remember that relieved feeling we all got when we first found out Greene could pick up 4+ yds without a fumble? Anyone can get a guy, but we need a back who can perform. I'm just not totally sold on our getting that from most rookies, that's all
...don't worry about it. I thought it was hilarious. Here are the backs the Jets should have a shot at, in order: 1. Fresno State's Ryan Mathews (Late first, early second) 2. Ole Miss' Dexter McCluster (early second) 3. Oregon's LaGarrette Blount (mid second) 4. Stanford's Toby Gerhart (mid to late second) 5. Georgia Tech's Jon Dwyer (mid to late second) 6. Mississippi State's Anthony Dixon (late second, early third) 7. Tennessee's Montario Hardesty (mid rounder) 8. UCONN's Andre Dixon (mid rounder) 9. Auburn's Ben Tate (mid rounder) 10. USC's Stafon Johnson (late rounder) 11. LSU's Charles Scott (late rounder) 12. Wayne State's Joique Bell (late rounder) 13. Fresno State's Lonyae Miller (late rounder)
100% agree. Mike T got great value for him with the 2nd rounder, and that trade panned out GREAT. The guy was a good back with NY. Sit in TJones shoes for a second...Rush for 1400 yards and 14 TDs and be asked to take a pay-cut? I understand he broke down towards the end, but if you're him you have to be livid that a team is asking you that. Good luck to him, except if he stays in the division...
I haven't seen the film on these guys. Do any of them look like they can fit in the big league? I love me some McCluster, but he doesn't exactly scream 'every-down back' to me
Toby Gerhart and Montario Hardesty look like guys who could fit right into a Rex Ryan style offense. Trading down in the 2nd to pick one of these guys up in the 3rd seems viable to me. Thoughts?
For anyone who's interested, here are the HBs available in FA. Excluding a few I think are obviously done (and Leon), there's: Bell, Mike RB RFA 6-0 225 4th Season NO TBD Brown, Chris RB UFA 6-3 235 7th Season HOU TBD Brown, Ronnie RB RFA 6-0 230 5th Season MIA TBD Faulk, Kevin RB UFA 5-8 202 11th Season NE TBD Gado, Samkon RB RFA 5-10 227 4th Season STL TBD Green, Ahman RB UFA 6-0 218 12th Season GB TBD Green, Justin RB RFA 5-11 251 4th Season ARI TBD Harrison, Jerome RB RFA 5-9 205 4th Season CLE TBD Johnson, Larry RB UFA 6-1 230 7th Season CIN TBD Moats, Ryan RB RFA 5-8 210 5th Season HOU TBD Norwood, Jerious RB RFA 5-11 209 4th Season ATL TBD Parker, Willie RB UFA 5-10 209 6th Season PIT TBD Peterson, Adrian RB UFA 5-10 212 8th Season CHI TBD Sproles, Darren RB RFA 5-6 185 5th Season SD TBD Stecker, Aaron RB UFA 5-10 213 10th Season ATL TBD Taylor, Chester RB UFA 5-11 213 8th Season MIN TBD Tomlinson, LaDainian RB Released 5-10 221 9th Season SD TBD White, LenDale RB RFA 6-1 235 4th Season TEN TBD Williams, Cadillac RB RFA 5-11 217 5th Season TB TBD Considering that and our final 8 restrictions, sticking to the draft seems like the prudent choice. Assuming Leon isn't with us next year.
For some reason I really don't foresee Dwyer lasting past early 2nd. Just too fast and beastly. He's got Jamal Lewis written all over him (no, not a prediction). If we lose both TJ and Leon (for a 2nd), Mathews becomes my immediate favorite at 29.
Lol thanks, I cried for this one earlier on OMG ADRIAN PETERSON!!!!1!11 But really now. I can see how we're bound, but in a way it's easier for us to get RFAs. My main concern was that we end up with a guy we can't depend on. Guys like Mike Bell, we know he can run
I think Dwyer is a beast too, but when Chan Gailey (the guy who recruited him) is talking shit about him, something must be up. He has no experience as a receiver and he'll have to develop pass blocking skills to be a full-time contributor. His weight issue and lack of motivation are his biggest knocks, and I think a lot of teams will stay away from him. I'm glad someone else is on the Mathews at 29 bandwagon with me. It was getting lonely.
