not on the same level as Haight and Thomas. His numbers can fool people into thinking he did something, but he did suck. However, he wasn't as useless as those two and Gholston.
Good point. I think D-Rob hurts because of the 1st round talent behind him. Obviously hind site is 20/20, but here's a list of players taken after D-Rob in '03. Terence Newman, Jordan Gross, Terrell Suggs, Kevin Williams, Marcus Trufant, Ty Warren, Troy Polamalu, Calvin Pace, Willis McGahee, Dallas Clark and Nnamdi Asomugha. And that's just the first round. Very sad.
I don't give a fuck about Gholston... Marques Douglas tho? I thought he was very serviceable and a great depth player.
if you read the clip, you'd understand he's probably coming back. DeVito was outplaying him at the end anyway.
1.) Fuck Gholston. 2.) Devito is an essentially 7 years younger and a much cheaper version of the same exact player. Devito obviously has a much higher ceiling @ this point and is only getting better....... I know you know what I mean by same player............ FTR I mean he is able to control his block and be stout @ the line but doesn't provide much of a pass rush at this point.
I am hearing a lot of names on the Out for the Jets, more so than we can add with FAs and the draft. There better be a shit-ton on decent players about to be cut.
Yeah, we'll never mistake Devito for a monster 3-4 DE like Seymour, but I think he would be an excellent role player at the position with a true edge rusher coming from the outside.
With Devito or possibly Pouha taking over the DE spot, we could use the UFA match that Douglas signs with another team to fill a different need. Douglas might actually get overpaid on the open market on simply the strength of the Jets' 2009 defense; it's happened before with other JAG players. Kimo von Suckhoffen and Donnie Abraham and Damien Robinson come to mind, all JAG players coming from dominant defenses at the point that the Jets stupidly overpaid for them. We just have to hope that there are Gms as stupid and desperate as Bradway was at his pinnacle of stupidity.
Yes, for sure he does not have an upside of Seymour, not even the upside of an Ellis. If the Jets can get a young Ellis type player in this draft.....wow. I know it is a pipe dream and all but a young Ellis would absolutely thrive in a Rex Ryan defense......be an All-Pro. imo. A shame the majority of his career was spent with Edwards and Mangini as coaches.. You also make a good point about FA's and the reason to let Douglas walk or see the open market.
I wonder what Alio thinks about releasing the Ghost. I remember him supporting Ghost around mid season, maybe not anymore.
I have to admit that I was also trying to support him mid season as well, but theres only so much getting behind a player you can do. He just does not have it. I hear Kurt Warners job at the quickieMart is open, so maybe stacking shelves for a couple of years will be the kind of incentive he needs.
Found this on NYJ.com, the official site: http://www.newyorkjets.com/blog/posts/1508-prospect-of-an-uncapped-2010-now-looms
Regarding Gholston... I think it's ok to have him on the roster 'till Sept 5... he doesn't have any big bonus coming up and I'm ok with him having another TC to prove his worth. But unless he REALLY impresses in pre-season I'm all for cutting him then. It doesn't make sense to cut him before that date... financially it's the same for the Jets.
Mike Tannebaum says a lot of things. Mike Tannebaum agreed with Rex Ryan before last year's draft when Ryan said that the Jets had their QB on the roster already. Someone might be dumb enough to offer us something for the Ghost which is why Tannenbaum would not want it to look like Gholston could be had on the waiver wire.
Same here. He had couple of OK games early mid season but went right back to ground zero towards the season end.
