Ah yeah I Just scrolled up >< Only read the beginning of the thread where people were talking about a 5th round tender.
leon washington and dustin keller will be able to handle nickel corners just fine next year ... we can get an udfa after the draft to develop as a slot receiver
I didn't know he was that old. Damn. I remember him making the switch to offense and thriving in Martz's system.
Really? B. Edwards is good as a #1 for what we do. He is good in blocking and in stretching the field and that really helps our run game. J. Cotchery is very good in being the saftey blamket for Sanchez. But after that...? D. Clowney is really bad at running routes (and he isn't exactly a rookie) but let's say he can be a serviceable deep threat. He is fast but not elite fast. B. Smith IS NOT a WR... he is just liste as such bus he catched less balls than Woodhead this year. W. Wright IS NOT a WR... he comes in when the WR is strictly asked to block. In an interview he revealed he only got to the field in college because of how good he was in the return game and not because he is a good WR. I can concede that he can be our BLOCKING WR if such a thing exists. D. Woodhead started playing WR this year... fingers crossed but atm he is no answer. That means that behing a solid (not great) starting duo we have an average/below average deep-threat, a blocking WR, a ST/wildcat QB disguised as a WR and a guy who started playing WR this season. This means everytime we wan't to go 3 WR sets or if one of our starters gets injured we are screwed.
Keller can be used as a 3rd WR in 3 wide sets. Read my comments about B. Smith earlier in this thread. I agree we don't have much depth, but I don't think that a "starting" 3rd WR is necessarily a big need. How many touches is a true 3rd WR going to see in this offense anyway?
With a guy like Schotty and injuries always around the corner I'd say more than expected. It all depens on the definition you give to "starter". On a scale from 1-10 what I mean is: 10-9-8: Starter (more or less good but still a starter, to me Edwards gets an 8 as #1 and Cothery a 9 as a #2) 7-6: can start/serviceable player (and IMO we have no one). the kind of guy you don't game-plan for but that can come in and be productive and also eventually spell a starter for a prolonged starter if he is injured. Guys like Breaston, Moore, Crayton come to mind... 5: adequate. If he comes in he won't screw up bot don't expect to count on him for more than a few snaps per game (Clowney). 4: repleaceable (as a WR). He is on the team not because of what he brings to the table as a WR but because he is a good ST player or a very versatile one. He can contribute as a traditional WR (knows hot to catch a ball) but in a very limited way (Wright and Smith). 3-2-1: not a WR. Either he can ONLY contribute on special teams and not on offense (at all) or he plain out sucks. To me we need 1 guy in the 6-7 range. I think Moore is in that range, not above, not under. another guy could be Jason Avant (a RFA as well). Keller: I'd be cool with having Keller as the #3 WR in those 3 WR sets but if that's the case I would like a more complete backup TE than what we have right now. In this draft for me it's actually the same if we get a good all-round TE (I love double TE sets, especially with a hybrid like Keller) or a slot WR. But one of the two is needed to expand our passing game. Getting another TE fits this team best because of the philosophy we have in place but getting another WR could be more useful... all in all it's a win-win situation.
yeah he's only going to have 30-45 catches on the season. But people see Welker and think that's what the slot guy is going to become. All the Jets need is a 3rd down guy. They didn't have one last year.
I have no problem upgrading a guy like Clowney but I'd rather not go after an RFA to do it. You're talking about giving up a draft pick for someone who will likely have a small impact unless we're banged up. edit: I wouldn't mind picking up Tory Holt on a 1 year deal for our 3rd WR. He's a FA.
It really depends on what pick you give away... for a 5th and a conditional going from a 4th to a 7th next year I'd be cool with it (in Moore's case). I'd love to get Holt as a 1 year stop-gap . Since we don't have many draft picks this year I'd like to bring his experience in and use the few picks we have to draft other guys.
You crazy Jet fans keep your offers away from Lance Moore!! Moore might be buried on the depth chart but keep in mind last year he led the team in receptions because Colston & Meachem were hurt.. Lance Moore is a scrappy WR with great hands and great route running ability.... he would be a SOLID #2 on most teams and even a #1 on some teams... I hope the Saints find a way to keep him but if he has to go somewhere I would like to see him on the jets... Lance Moore would be the "Wayne Cherbet" of the Rex Ryan era...
The chemistry with Sanchez is getting there. He was Favre's 3rd down guy, now he'll be Sanchez's... hopefully. The Jets still need a real slot WR since slants routes became popular again with Schotty.
We need a Golden Tate, Shipley, Barnes, Gilyard. A WR of that caliber would make this offense good. Clowney could be the 4th WR which wouldn't be too shabby.
IMO the Giants have a lot of depth at the receiver position. Size, speed, even the slot. You guys really need to look more at the defensive side of the ball.
I wouldnt mind if a deal like this happened, I would find it a smart way to focus on other positions in the draft. I like the receivers in this upcoming draft and I would not want the Jets to miss out on a guy like Golden Tate. I say the Jets should draft Tate, this guy is a true athlete. He was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks, he won the Biletnikoff Award. A young guy like this can really help out the Jets.
Hey guys, Saints fan here, figure I have some knowledge on this one. Firstly, if Lance Moore goes, I'd love to see him on the Jets, I've been a "fan" (as much as I can be, i.e I root for them) since our two teams played in week 3 - found you guys to be awesome and knowledgeable about the game. Anyway, Lance Moore is not JUST a slot receiver, he can play anywhere. In the 08-09 season he led the team in catches, yards, and TDs and played great. This year he was hampered by injuries from the start and with Robert Meachem's emergence, got buried. If he does go, he was only signed to a 1 year 1.3 million dollar contract, so I don't think it would cost too much for y'all to sign him - though I don't know a great deal about restricted free agents and such. Anyway, the guy has great hands (Did you see that 2-pt conversion?) and can play from anywhere on the field. I thhink he'd be a great pick up. He'll try anything to make the catch and I think that would help Sanchez out. Anyway just a take from a Saints fan. Oh and he could be a "Thank you" for trading us Vilma!
My concern would be,not only losing the draft pick, but finding out he is merely a product of the system he is in. I remember Az Hakim from St Louis a few years ago was pretty good with the Rams, but didn't produce anywhere else.
