Actually I think the combination of our receivers after Braylon and Cotch would equal 1 really great slot receiver, and that's the real problem. As of right now, each of our second tier guys are good at one thing (speed/hands/route running/YACs) but none are good at all of them, which is why I think slot is still a position of need on the team.

Oh good god, just say no...

Edit: now that I think about it - having Moore on the Jets would increase the chances that Chris Berman would tumble to the possibilities and that could be very funny.

    Lance Moore penetrates the backfield?

Why do we need this prototypical slot receiver so badly? We have a great deep threat in Edwards, a solid route running, hands guy in Cotchery, a TE that can cause mismatches in the middle of the field, and a RB that can take a swing or screen pass to the house on any play. Couple all of that with a bruising rushing attack and I'm not sure why we need a prototypical slot receiver too. There's only one ball and we don't pass that much, even if Rex wants to pass more it will still probably be less than most teams and we have plenty of weapons.

You don't get it.The Saints and Colts were both in the Super Bowl with good slot wr's.Therefore it is imperrative that we get one.

Just the fact that his position is called a wide receiver is kinda gay.

I agree. I really am excited to see the current receiving corps get a full offseason with Sanchez.

I don't really feel all that comfortable about our receivers behind Cotch and Braylon, but I think we have far more pressing needs on the defensive side of the ball.

There is no such thing as a "5th round tender". Or a "4th round tender". Or a "6th round tender". All of the suggestions that he's worth that kind of a tender are irrelevant because they don't exist.

The minimum tender is a player's original draft position. Since Moore was undrafted in 2005, that doesn't apply and the Saints aren't going to tender him just to get right of first refusal in this class of free agents. He'll get the same exact tender he got last year, which is the next step up of a 2nd round. So, who wants to give up a 2nd rounder for him? I sure don't.

Um, no, I'll let that one go. If you'd said the receivers lined up behind Braylon though...

Let what one go? Did you fart?

I am certainly not criticizng Cotch, and Braylon may drop too many passes, but he's probably much better than we're going to find in FA. But past them on the depth chart, there isn't much to depend on.

I'd like to see Brad Smith in front of a JUGS machine for four hours, everyday, until the start of the 2010 season. If that happens, I'm fine with the WR corp. If that guy learns to catch and run a proper route, he'll make "Randle-El" an obscure trivia question.

I thought he showed real signs of developing into a legit receiving threat early in the season, but then he kind of disappeared in that role. He was catching pretty much anything he could get his hands on when given the opportunity, which was a great improvement over prior years in that category. I wonder if he is struggling in the route running department. I also wonder if Leon going down maybe took some of his receiving time away as he was being utilized in some of Leons packages.

I'd absolutely love for this guy to become more of a legit receiving threat, because when he gets the ball in his hands he can make things happen. Hopefully he can develop some chemistry with Sanchez and work on whatever it is he may be lacking as a receiver at this point.

If Lance moore has a 5th round tender I think there would be way too much competition for him and thus his salary would be jacked up.

Id much rather see us trade down and grab someone like Freddie Barnes in the 4th round

Who said we need one so badly? Just because I said its a position of need, doesn't mean I think it's a higher need than other areas (i.e. CB, LB, DL, OL depth). But why would anyone be content NOT having a "prototypical" slot WR? Sure we're not a pass-happy offense, but a lot of people in the game threads sure wished we had a better slot guy during game days, including myself.

All I'm saying is that if there is an upgrade available, and its within our means to get him (without sacrificing higher priorities), then why shouldn't we?
