I keep reading threads about hoping the Jets get wide receivers or halfbacks or what not, but after watching recaps of last season our number one need is a pass-rusher by far. AKA an OLB in the 3-4 system. The Jets front 7 is very talented and has the right guys for it, but there is still not enough pressure coming off of the line. No matter what the secondary situation is next year, if the Jets acquire an OLB it will make the secondary's job way easier. I think cornerback can be addressed in a later round and certainly its possible to get a slot receiver in the 4th round or so (wasn't Cotchery picked in the 5th?).

I'd say our biggest need is a DE. I'm pretty sure Douglas is a FA and even if he's brought back his best days are behind him. Ellis is also pretty long in the tooth, so I think the need for a DE is huge.... OLB is a need but we have way too much invested in that position already, I don't think we'll be drafting an OLB with an early round pick this year unless a primo prospect falls to us somewhere.

im going to say a passrusher we definitley lead the league in almost sacks, we need someone to actual get to the QB

then i would say a corner to play opposite of Revis

It's difficult to determine our #1 need as of right now, have to wait and see who the Jets lose/gain in Free Agency.

I do agree DE is a need, but not as much as some think...knowing that Rex usually doesn't activate many DL.

Secondary, OLB (rush) & slot WR are my 3 major needs.

DE and NT, thats it everything else can wait as far as I'm concerned. This uncapped year sucks, especially when we could find a great replacement for Rhodes with the safeties in this years draft, but IMO if we don't get a good 3-4 DE and a good NT to alternate with Jenkins first then this offseason will be a failure.

Edit: To explain my opinion, with a better DL our blitzes will be way more effective and will make our OLB's and Secondary's play much better.

I thought the answer would be a healthy #77, seeing the thread starter's username.

I think our biggest need right now is depth. If we retain all 22 starters and bring in some quality backups, we should be good.

Many teams face that problem, but at least this is a good team. Imagine if you're the Lions...also at least we can cut Gholston. The FO has to take advantage of that if its an uncapped year.

Our biggest need is a shift in offensive schemes. Our offense went three-and-out way too many times, and it was obvious that our defense was tiring during the 4th quarter of games. We scored very little points and did not take enough time off the clock (save for the games against crappy teams). This happened because we had the highest rush attempts and the lowest pass attempts in the league, and teams took advantage of this. We need to be a balanced 50/50 or 60/40 pass-to-rush team.

To help in this transition to a balanced offense, we need a slot wide receiver. Someone like Golden Tate or Mardy Gilyard will help a lot. If our offense scores more points and stays on the field longer, our defense won't tire down the stretch.

Move back into the early-mid 3rd and take Damian Williams out of USC. Mark already has chemistry with him.

I thought Williams was a first round prospect. Did he really drop this far?

I don't really think that a 3rd receiver would be worth giving up a chance to make the pass rush better. You can pick up a 3rd receiver in the FA or sometimes you can get lucky with an UDFA or low round pick. Dustin Keller is practically our 3rd receiver and with Leon back, Sanchez will have a ton of options. This offense is gonna be better by default next year.

    What's a number number 1 need? =P

But seriously CB/DE. Not DT unless it's McCoy or Suh which is not happening. Maybe Williams or Cody

    Agreed 100%.

We are a pass-rushing threat away from being a SB contender. We need a consistent 10 sack guy opposite Pace.

Depth is important this offseason though. A 3rd WR and line depth would be big.

Then prepare to be disappointed. Sanchez won't magically get better with an offseason. This year Flacco got a little better from his rookie season and Ryan regressed. Sanchez threw the ball the least amount of times out of any starting qb in the nfl. It's going to be a very hard transition. He needs all the help he can get.
