Not sure if this is news to this forum, but I didn't see it on the first page... Video link is inside this link. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/football/nfl/02/04/giants.ap/index.html
"Parziale said it was hard to see an old stadium come down, noting he was a Jets fans. A split second later, he noted he was a Giants fan, too." Is it just me or are there a lot of these from that generation? I know a handful.
Any idea as to why there's a 14 foot hole (deep) I presume in the middle of the stadium, where the field would normally be? I can see a few inches removed, selling bits and pieces of turf etc, but 14 feet? Maybe a good amount of utility connections ran underneath in a spider-web type maze?
There wasn't a damned thing wrong with that stadium. In fact, it was a better football stadium that the new POS monstrosity they just built.
I agree. The vantage points were much better in the old stadium. Construction laws disallow the overhangs of old and now you have this huge farking bowl. Great views from every point inside - just be sure to bring binoculars. Change the seats and the sign on the front of the building and add NYJets LLC to the deed...
Easier fixing that than building the new POS and charging you every penny it takes for construction. One thing we'll never have back is the EXCELLENT sight lines and close proximity to the field. They can take their lounges and five-star restaurants and shove it. I don't go there for amenities, I go there to watch a fucking football game. As far as red and blue goes, I don't know of a single guy in my section who sat there and said, "Oh, this is a terrible experience. If only my seat was green, everything would be alright."
I don't see how anyone can make a full judgment on the new stadium when there hasn't been a game there. If you don't like the move, I completely understand it, but the new stadium could still be awesome and a place to be proud of. Even if the move there and the prices are a bit ridiculous.
A "full" judgement, no. But a preliminary judgement, yes. At least, for me. After months of discussion in 17a's thread, it seems to me there are two different types of fans (and opinions) on the new stadium. Many of today's younger Jets fans want more amenities. They want new. They want more expanse (rotundas, gargantuous great halls, etc). And they want upscale (five star restaurants, 20,000 sq. ft. indoor lounges, etc.) This is all very important to them (along with watching the actual game) and ranks high in their priorities. Then there are fans like me. I could care less about upscale when it comes to a football stadium. I like five-star upscale restaurants like everyone else, so when I want to do that, I go to one, and certainly not one located insde a football stadium. I like being in the parking lot. I don't want to be in a 20,000 sq. ft. lounge and watching the game on TV becasue I can sit home and do that. In other words, I go there to get a seat as close tothe action as I can and I stay outdoors and I watch the game. So, for guys like me, it's easy to say that I don't need to attend the first game to get a pretty good idea of what I like and don't like. As far as being "proud" of the new stadium, I'd rather watch the team win championships and be proud of that. Again, for my crowd, it's not about the stadium or the amenities. Being proud of a concrete structure isn't my thing. I'm there for the game (and game only) and I'll be proud of the team when we win. I could care less about being proud of a concrete structure that was built by screwing all the current ticketholders royally.
Whoa whoa whoa. Don't make this an age thing (at least not among the fans. If we're talking about some young hot-shot execs then bash away). It's nobody's fault but the people who decided the stadium needs those things. Nobody was asking for them. I agree with your response to Ecko though. Honestly if someone isn't a STH they really don't understand this situation fully. It's easy to think something like seat color matters when you're 1,165 miles away and you're not paying out the ass to sit in neutral-colored seats.
When I called the Jets FO yesterday, I wanted to inquire about improving my Upper Deck seats. My specific question was, what happens to the Upper Deck seats that are being vacated right now by people taking advantage of the newer, slightly lower prices downstairs. I wanted to know if they would please let me know if slightly better seats became available in my section, perhaps closer tothe rail or the 50YL. Of course, the rep immediately went into his sales spiel. Partially to humor him and partially becasue I was inquisitive, I asked if my old Mezz seats had lowered in price. "Oh yes," he says, "I can get you into the corner of the Mezz sidelines, the PSL will only be $30,000 for the 4 seats, but the ticket price is now only $245 where it used to be $400." Hmmm... " $1,000 per game for my 4 tix, and that's after shelling out 30 big ones. "Well," I teased, "I wish I had known you were going to reduce the price earlier, becasue then I might have gone for it and had better seats than you're offering now." "BTW," I asked, "Are these seats you're talking about under cover?" "Well no," he says, but you don't need cover, you can just go back into the 20,000 sq. ft. lounge behind you." "But I don't WANT to go further back than I already am and go into an indoor lounge with 4200 other people, I want to watch the game." He knew he wasn't getting anywhere, so he just told me he'd make a note on my account that if better Uppers become available, I'd like to move down some.
