"The Jets parted ways with defensive line coach Kerry Locklin in November because he and Ryan weren't seeing eye to eye. Defensive assistant Jeff Weeks, who is still employed by the team, handled the defensive linemen for the rest of the 2009 season." Another terrific move by the Jets. I lieu of the above (I was not aware of this), this is a great move IMO.
The Ravens defensive line has been excellent for years and years. We are talking about one of the best rush defenses in the history of the nfl. Ill gladly take each and every (defensive) coach from the Ravens who is willing to come here. Even if this guy was a secondary coach, he still was a part of that incredible defense. Bring em on !
the transition from DB coach -> Dline coach is probably good for Carrier's career....it's stated above that he aspires to be a D coordinator someday....what better way to beef up your resume....then to gain experience coaching another realm of the defense. This guy sounds like a real go-getter.....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Carrier_(safety) The guy was described as a "Mark was known as a smart player, often playing "quarterback on defense"" Multiple probowler, defensive rookie of the year, and hes young. Guy sounds like he could be our Mike Singletary
Rexgenius made the hire. You dare to question? Seems like a meh move, but there's nothing wrong with getting younger.
The only thing that I wonder about this move. Is Carrier is a young guy who wants to become defensive coordinator, and we have a young defensive coordinator that Rex loves. Makes me wonder how long this Carrier guy could be sticking around for
If our defense continues to be as good as it is, we may lose Pettine sooner than later. Maybe this guy could be his successor?
The bigger question is: Does anyone really care? If anything, he's groomed for when/if Pettine leaves. If not, then he leaves earlier and we probably don't even notice.
