I remember that, and those people that were killing Rex after the Buffalo game were clueless football fans. Ryan made some mistakes, he admitted to them, and fixed them. When Ryan made mistakes we of course point them out. The point is Ryan gets it, and has fixed alot of his early mistakes, rememeber he was a rookie head coach. And again, its the rediculous Jets fans that were calling for his head after the Bills game when Sanchez threw 5 ints. The fact that you even give those guys a voice is sad. The real Jets fans know their football and this is a real coach. I also stated after the 2006 season I wanted to see more from Mangini before I said anything. The Mangini hype bothered me in 06, just like the Mark Sanchez week 1-3 hype bothered me this season. In the end, we have a real coach that knows how to coach, and knows how to connect with his players. This isnt something new, he did it for 8 seasons in Baltimore, its just new here.
No, I would not turn on Rex. No poster here would, unless we have a poster who is secretly a hot chick or a ham sandwich.
I choose Rex is 0-1 in bringing a Championship to Hempstead. .... because in a stupid fucking poll this was the worst answer of all. How about we see how Rex does in the next couple of years and start asking questions like this.
Rex will be a beloved figure here as long as he wins. That's the way it is, look back when we were struggling in oct/Nov- he was getting ripped apart. it's easy to forget that now after the great run but if his team doesn't back him up w/ wins he'll be run out of town quickly.
I wouldn't turn on the guy, I like his style, but you can bet that a ton of this board will do so. I don't even care about the middle finger thing...he did it in jest...big deal.
That's because Fatcessa doesn't have a fucking clue, as usual, and does not understand that Rex brings a lot of intangibles to the Jets and the fan base that none before him ever have. He walks and talks like a Jets fan. He IS a Jets fan.....and what's wrong with that? When is the last time that you would even consider answering this question "I will never turn on....[Herm, Tuna, Al, you pick...] " ? When is the last time that you had this kind of confidense in the team we all bleed for ? Rex Ryan <> any other Jets coach. Rex Ryan > the others. Fuck Mike Fatcessa..........
A co-worker of mine who isn't a Jets fan said "By Rex doing that it took away everything they accomplished this season. And you're supposed to have respect for your rivals." I told him that Jets-Dolphins rivalry has a lot of hatred, fucking AJ Dewey. Rex wears his emotions on his sleeves and you either love him or hate him and I'm OKAY with being the bad guy in the NFL. The Raiders and Steelers were the bad guys in the 70s." he is a Steelers fan (like everyone else in Atlanta and probably the rest of the world). To which he replied, "The last person I remember other than the titans owner to give the finger to fans was Mike Vick." I hate Mike Vick, so he shut me up pretty quick.
Rex Ryan is the perfect coach for this team, I couldn't turn on him no way, a lot of fans would, but a lot of fans don't know football either, if the players suddenly don't respect Rex or lose confidence in him (especially Sanchez) then we may have a problem I just don't see that happening, his ways are affectionate and he cares way too much about this team for his players to disrespect him, I honestly think he cares more about this team and his players then the past coaches have, IMO ... he's the type of coach that you would die for on the field, whens the last time we had a coach like that, certainly not Mangini or Herm, even if they were decent coaches, last time we had a coach like that was Parcells, and he didn't even want to stick around man. I want Rex here for the next 10 years.
Our fans have turned on Parcells, Vinny, Chad, Curtis Martin, Abraham, Vilma, Ellis, Coles,... Of course we will have fans turn on rex if things don't go well.
Right, and my point is that there are way more 'rediculous' Jets fans around than objective ones. Somebody always gets thrown to the wolves when shit goes bad, regardless of regime.
I love what i've seen so far, but I do fear a burn out factor with Rex. Bottom line is he needs to get the players to play hard for him, and he achieved that this year. My question is will they always play as hard for him year in and year out, after hearing the same bombastic claims that may not yield a championship. At a certain point you tune a guy out... Plus, in a copy cat league like the NFL (as they were saying on 1050 last night) if you're different and win you're a hero. If you're different and lose you will find yourself on the unemployment line.
Rex is the perfect coach for this team, and DEFINITELY is nothing like mangini. The players hated mangini, and fans had no real affection for him (outside of when he was winning) Rex has a personality and play style that fans can get behind and know what to expect from him. The only way fans would turn on rex is if the jets have 2 or 3 crappy seasons in a row (aka not making the playoffs). But the odds of that happening are slim to none IF our running back situation works out. Which is going to depend heavily on if TJ becomes washed up (aka how he played in the playoffs/look at LT) and how well Greene/Leon do with injury related issues.
Would you turn on Rex?? HELL NO- In his first year he turned our team into a top defense, imagine how much better we will be years into this system. Once these players fully understand the system and know where every single player is on every play lookout-
Exactly. I was thinking the exact same thing. This question was already answered this year. They strung a few losses together and people were jumping ship. Personally, I love the guy. And I never expected what we did this year so I didn't turn on him. But if he goes 7-9 next year, he'll have a hard time staying on most people's good side. If he has a year where he doesn't get 6 wins, he'll be driven out of town. I love the guy, and I want him to be successful, but he has to be successful. If he's not, I'm not going to adore the guy just because the players like him or because he gives great pressers. All that said, since he did win this year, the flipping the bird thing was awesome. F Miami!
Fair weather fans will turn on Rex. Just like other poster's have said - 1 or 2 bad games and its - Rex Sucks and Sanchez is a bust. Put Clemens on the field. The people that know football realize it its not gonna be a super bowl appearance in Rex's 2nd year. The team has some issues and is in need of players, and the Jets are thin on draft picks. I see a downturn next year - maybe even missing the playoffs. But I want rex here. Even if we see a couple 4-12 seasons. Its an embarrassment that the Jets have been through so many head coaches. Hopefully Woody J AND the fan base will realize that it took Bill Cowher 14 years to get the Steelers to a SB. I am hoping Rex is here for that long or more...
Jets arent missing the playoffs next year. With Welker PROBABLY missing the entire season, I see the Jets straight up winning their division. The only REAL problem I see for the Jets is how will their HB situation work out.
Oh, no matter what you say if we start losing you'll turn on him. It's in our nature. You can't fight it.
