Being that the Jets rarely go three or four wide, the slot position is rarely used at all, but in most cases, it appears to me at least that Clowney is the guy manning the slot, so yes, supplant is the correct term. That being said, and knowing the offensive gameplan the Jets employ, the slot is not that important. But you knew that already right?

Much thanks to you and Hemi on that one. Like anyone actually gives a fuck what forum it should be in...and anyone who could wrap their mind around it could see I was talking Jet specific...though that does leave that LT hole you guys can poke at.

Why? Because I questioned the name you put up? You just listed a bunch of guys that "might get cut".

Except that Clowney sucks and only mans it...and we often went with Brad Smith over him...because we don't have anything else.

The slot isn't important because we don't have anyone good there. Just like the slot was never significant to the Pats until they got Welker...

    Thanks for the props!

This thread was incredibly unclear. I saw what you were trying to do, but ANY damn team in this league can sign those players.

Threads like this one clog up a forum that actually has threads that relate to the Jets.

This is what we have so far.

DBs - because Rex likes alot of DBs and likes to coach them up
Bennett - could be cut, but probably not
Tomlinson - big name, put it up for shiggles or whatever the hell word you used...

Sorry Dware, but the thread doesn't have much bite to it.

why are you making an issue of this.

I think he is clearly referring to who could be cut in reference to who we could sign as the topic of discussion.

    Relax my friend

Smith is in there due to his versatility, not his pass catching skills, he is more of another blocker and a potential handoff candidate when he comes across on those fakes Shotty likes to use.

Sorry that I'm taking so much of the light off of such relevant threads as "Chad Johnson can't say Shutdown Corner" or the ultra-fun sports radio/Mike Francessa thread...

He's still there, which is more than can be said about Clowney but for a few times.

No, that's what you see so far...you missed the whole half a page+ dedicated to what forum this should be in. The fact that you keep treating Tomlinson as if he was someone I'm desperately counting on shows how badly you want this thread to be viewed in the same light as you view it...I'll even send you a link to the thread I originally started which didn't even have LT...he only made this list because he and Thomas (the name with him in this thread) are actually very good vet candidates to be cut:

Seriously...I'm pretty sure I know how the forum is organized and if I meant to put it in the NFL forum then I would have put it there.

people are way too damn serious around here sometimes. it seems people use TGG as a platform to rip other people and make them feel like a turd for no good reason.

people spend more time ripping threads which lead to the threads demise then just contributing...

if you don't like the thread simply don't post there is no need to attack someone you know?

it's like "OMG THIS THREAD IS IMO IN THE WRONG FORUM YOUR AN ASSHOLE"

    translation:

"OMG NOBODY LISTENS TO ME IN REAL LIFE AND THIS IS MY CHANCE TO BE HEARD!!"

I used to get really upset about this and fight back but now I really could care less. I just laugh it off.

Johnnie Lee Higgins might actually be a better slot option than Curtis btw...he'd be my first option if he were to get cut...even if Curtis were to hit the market...Curtis is more a deep threat than prototypical slot guy anyway...

Sorry to bring relevant discussion back to the thread. Turk, I've noticed a couple of heads have gotten huge since I got banned and came back...Lots of guys on power trips for no reason at all...it's a message board call off the fuckin' hounds.

Haha. That first part is so true. Offseason threads are usually 75% garbage. I actually like the idea of a potential cuts thread, provided people are in here discussing the merits of said players and why they'd fit for the Jets. Of course, I also understand the comments about Tomlinson and Bennett. I can't say I'm in the draft forum enough to understand the hatred for you, but I do find it amusing.

Perhaps the best thing to emerge from all this is nyjets624's newly expressed hatred for "messageboard police". Does this make him internal affairs? Some sort of oversight committee?

Oh, and Curtis is a solid slot receiver who has been misused in Philly's sets recently because of his injuries. I have no idea if he's the same receiver he was because Philly hasn't allowed us to see whether he is. I'd much prefer a fresh young receiver at that spot, though.

This line made this whole thread worth it for me. Why? Because I imagined a chubby young Rex Ryan looking under rocks and in bushes for DBs, which he then catches and puts in a jar with holes poked in the lid.

He does do stuff like that...turned super-bust Fabian Washington into a pretty decent player...made Washington actually learn to tackle.
