Sorry, should have included some kind of smiley so you knew I got you.

Yeah, I hear you. We disagree on the contributions we believe each is capable of this year. There's really no right or wrong answer. You'd take the youth, and I'd take the history. No biggie.

EDIT: Wait, next year? What value do you feel we'd get from Gardner next year? Trade after showcasing?

I can't get that image of Johnny Damon hitting a grand slam in game 7 against the yankees. And then he sold out to go to the Yankees. I can't respect that (even though Im a Yankee fan). When Damon gets a huge hit, we always say "good job damon, but you will never earn your pin-stripes."

I don't personally want him back, I don't care how good he is

So did you also hate Roger Clemens? Did you hate David Cone after going there? David Wells?

Shit, Babe Ruth came here from there, and MADE the franchise. I hate anyone who is a Red Sox while they're wearing that uniform, but when they're wearing pinstripes, F that. They're family.

EDIT: How about WADE BOGGS?! He was pretty key to our rebirth in the nineties. And he was the epitome of hated Red Sox before he came here.
    ------------------------

News on Damon front: Ben Sheets got a $10M contract from Oakland today. They're still chatting with Damon though. Seems they're looking to give him $4-5M. The Yankees are offering $2M. Come on, this guy helped win a World Series title. He's worth at least $5M to the Yankees, and really, the Yankees could give him a bit more than that. Say, $7M? That's under his demands, but pretty far from the $10M he was looking for. Everyone wins.

Next year, as in 2010, the upcoming season. I'm not looking past the value for the following season, so that didn't factor into my feelings on that matter. You were arguing as though Damon was definitely the better short term answer, as though I thought Gardner's value over Damon was in the future. I was saying, no, I think his value is comparable right now.

Oh, okay, then I did understand you correctly the first time. I re-read what you wrote and thought "Is he talking about 2011?"

If the NYY are offering Damon $2 million I see why he's not budging... Damon, in this market, deserves $5 million, he had a great season last year and was huge in the World Series.

If I was Damon i tell the Yanks to stick it up their ass and sign a minor league deal with the Rays. That's offensive.

Buster Olney tweeted this morning that Cashman isn't dealing with Damon at all. And yeah, $2M would be offensive. I think $7M is fair though.

Wait, have the Yankees actually offered $2M to Damon? Or are people just assuming that's what the offer would be because that's what Cashman says he has left in his budget?

First offer to Damon was 2 years and 14 mil, Boras wanted 4 years 52 mil, he's nuts

I thought the Yanks offered 2/$20M... but that was a while ago, before adding Johnson, and so they've since pulled that offer.

Yes, that is the case. At no point did Cashman ever say "Johnny, we'll give you $2M to come back."

Right again. I believe they were still willing to go 2/$14M, but even that seems to be off the table at this point. I just read that Cashman basically told the media that he isn't being given extra money to work with this year like he got for Andy and Tex last year. He has to make it work within the budget.

The Yankees actually traded for an outfielder with Texas yesterday. I don't recall either player's name, but both were minor leaguers and the guy we got supposedly reminds Girardi of Gardner. So no upgrades yet. Cashman did say that the move was not the right-handed outfielder they plan on acquiring this week.

I wonder if he's got another trade in the works? [IMG]

The New York Yankees have acquired outfielder Greg Golson(notes) from the Texas Rangers for infielder Mitch Hilligoss in a swap of 24-year-old minor leaguers.

Texas also got between $15,000 and $20,000 cash in Tuesday?s trade.

Golson played one game in the majors last year. He hit .258 with 20 stolen bases in Triple-A. He was designated for assignment last week when Texas signed infielder Khalil Greene.

Damon is a major reason they won the World Championship. Cashman's nonsense about having only 2 million to spend and not at least offering the guy a 1 year 7-10 million dollar deal is absolutely offensive, based on what Damon did on the field and the success the Yankees had last season. Absolutely offensive. He picks the clutchest guy on the team to draw the line in the sand on.

I find it hard to believe, the $2 mil offer, but Michael Kay said it yesterday, too...

Thanks for that. Yeah, I actually laughed when I first saw it because the Yankees got "Golson."
    -----------

I still can't believe Cashman would have offered just $2M to Damon. That's insulting, and I doubt Cashman would have done that.

Just heard on ESPN radio, Yanks are back in the Damon sweepstakes because the A's spent $10 mil on Sheets...
