We need another banger back there. Greene is a bowling ball, but he's also very shifty. We all know Leon can pretty much make any move he wants, and he's a receiving threat. What we need is a power back that can smack people in the mouth, and have enough vision to hit a hole (unlike TJ). I like the prospect of Gerhart, any clue where he's projected? He's not a one dimensional battering ram, and he can make people miss. TJ is gone, I think it's pretty evident.
Where did you get this 7 mil number from? I've seen between 4 and 5 mil, never 7. And again, any FA RB will now be a RFA. We have to lose an RFA before we can even think about signing one. We will only be able to sign RB's that have been cut. Not only do we need to keep Jones, we need another decent sized RB that can play some ST's. Harrison will be an RFA as will just about every single other decent RB because of the uncapped year. We can't be giving up draft picks for players like that, and besides, we'de have to lose an RFA before we can even sign one.
The 7mil number for TJ is not the annual salary he is being paid, it's his irrelevant cap figure in a capless 2010, and comes from that guy that does the NYJetsCap.com website. I have no idea how accurate he is, but it's irrelevant either way. http://www.nyjetscap.com/salary10.html
You have no idea how to evaluate an NFL RB. I was about to try to explain it to you, but I doubt you could possibly understand any of it. As far as I know, "real" money to Jones for 2010 is about 4.2 mil. The cap number, as abyz said, is irrelavant. Jones is going to be a Jet next year as sure as K Rhodes won't be.
explain...the guy's legs are weak...The man has been consistently putting up numbers because of our OL. Shonn Greene showed the difference.
I'd love to have TJ back as a fan... but if I'm the F.O. this is what say to him... there's no way you're seeing that enormous bonus in March so either: a) You re-work it so that you get around 3-3.5 mill in total this year (which is still a considerable amount of $$$) b) We let you hit the FA market and whatever offer you get we'll match it. He knows NO ONE is going to offer him more than 3 mill a season and will re-sign with us.
TJ is the man...he had a great season..and had some really important runs for us throughout the season. I like Jones, I think he has a few more seasons....but I was suprised that late in the season he slowed down. Luckily we had Greene step up and the fact that he hadn't carried the load like Jones, he was fresh and ran the ball hard. You are all crazy if you think the bulk of the carries can go on Greene next year.. he is going to need another running back otherwise your looking at another Cadillac Williams...one good season over used and abused...nothin since. Ton of respect for Jones here...I understand if its a money issue though.
Thank god get this scrub off the team...tired of seeing him run 4 yards and dive to the ground cuz he's scared of contact...easily replaceable
TJ is durable, knows how to hold onto the ball, and is a team leader in the locker room. Oh, and that 1400 yds is nothing to sneeze at. Be careful what you ask for. The next guy could be a Chris Brown or a Ryan Moats. Yeah they look good on paper and even on the field for a hot second until they cough it up at the goal line. Keep him around until Greene proves that he can avg 20 carries a game for a whole season and LW shows that he can be his normal self. We cant afford to draft another RB anyway. Too many other needs. TJ just hit the wall at the wrong time.
I think it would be a good thing to keep all the vets around one more season... just to say: Let's give it one final shot altogether...
