    Pattern Detected

1983: Lost AFC Championship on road @ Miami

1999: Lost AFC Championship on road @ Denver

2010: Lost AFC Championship on road @ Indianapolis

Solution: Let's go 14-2 next year and get home field, OK guys ?

I may be off-base in starting this so soon, but I am very excited about the Jets chances next year. As I think many here are...

According to http://www.nyjetscap.com/freeagents.html it looks like the Jets will essentially be able to bring back this same roster next year. I assume that Sheppard and Jones will be replaced. Hopefully the Jets can find a couple good defenders at DB and a strong rushing DE.

What do you think are the main needs and who's available? Is there an impact rookie available toward the end of the first round? Do the Jets have any chips to trade up in the draft?

Will the Jets go into next year with Leon and Shonn running the ball?

    I can't wait 'til August...

    Thanks in advance, E

With no CBA there's going to be less turnover than if a deal gets done. There's a chance Richardson retires, Jones won't restructure with Rosenhaus negotiating, so he could well be done in NY and if Lito doesn't play last night there's no way he's coming back. You don't alienate a guy who's in your long term plans like that. I can see some turnover on the fringes as well - guys like Woodhead, Fowler, Murrell, Gholston, Wright (he was quiet this year even on specials), Mulligan, Hartsock, Slauson, etc. will have to compete for their jobs, if they make it to camp.

i don't understand this overreaction to jones wearing down at the end of this season. we ran that guy into the ground this season and i bet he is back and ready for more next year. why not start off the year with a 60-25-15 split in terms of carries for jones greene and washington. let jones be the workhorse and as he gets tired slowly increase the work load of greene and washington... i mean it worked pretty well this year.

Lito won{t be back because he is owed like $10 mil for next season and wasn{t a big impact player to warrant that kind of cash. He was abused by Collie in week 16, but when Strickland got hurt again it really screwed up the pass defense. Aside from CB they really need to find a pass rushing DE so they don{t have to blitz 60% of the time.

Not sure what the FA rules will be being the Jets made it that far in the playoffs. But I would try to grab Landry.

with the CBA issues I am not holding my breath for an influx of talent, but I think a lot of teams will be in the same boat trying to move players around. The draft needs to produce quality additions and not more Gholstons

    In no particular order:

Quality #2 CB and better depth than what we have- Strickland is made of straw, Lowery simply isn't a starter, Sheppard is gone, Cole is a special teamer. You know that it's bad when James Ihedibo is called in because your backup CB's aren't getting the job done.

D-Line- Douglas and Ellis are both up there in years, and you have to plan on phasing in their replacements with some fresh legs next season. Quality NT depth is a plus too, even with Pouha coming on like he did, simply because you don't know how long big Jenks will be around.

OLB- Can someone rush the passer please?

O-Line- While solid going into next season barring any injuries, you have to realize that Faneca and Woody aren't long for this league.

We need CB depth. Drew Coleman and Ihedigbo got torched yesterday and Lowery had his worst performance of the year. Also, DL is aging, so that should be adressed.

    Offense/Defense

Offense: in 2010, our games will NOT be all on the Defense. With the maturation of Sanchez and Green, plus another season of connection with Keller and Braylon, plus the return of Leon, our offense will be real good. Our offense is capable of growing into a leathal run/pass combination that is VERY difficult to defend.

Look for Tanny to pick up at least one and maybe two O-lineman prospects in the draft.

Defense: well, i'm not so sure. I don't believe we need a second 'dominant DB'. Having the nations top DB to shut down half the field is pretty damn solid.

During half time of the Colts game, Rex was pissed at our back court's failure to communicate who's covering who, who's doubling who, etc. Sounds like Rex's schemes requires a huge amount of 'on the fly' comunique in the back field. Even if we keep the exact same players, they can only get better at eye contact/communication. Just like an O-line needs years to gel, apparantly in Ryan's system, so do the back 7.

If Rex DOES bring in back court help, it will be a VERY headsie, VERY smart kind of DB/Safety. I don't see Rex looking for this kind of player in the draft. Rex will look for an Ed Reed type guy who 'already gets it'.

But as we saw in the Colts game, a good QB like Manning with time to scan the field, set and throw can place the ball right where only the receiver can get it, even if that receiver to blanketed by a really good cover guy. Solution: More pressure on the QB.

2010 Draft: Look for Rex to draft a pass rushing OLB, a Safety he can develop to replace Rhodes (eventually), and O-line futures with the remainder.
