The Jets never established the run and the ball control game, Schotty tried to match Manning throw for throw and it was not going to be. I knew we were doomed when the Colts were winning the clock. That is not our game. We were not able to wear the Colts D-Line down, and just when we were starting to get some momentem, Greene went down. I was saying to my wife at the start of the 3rd, that this just wasn't the right game plan, we were not playing Ground 'n' Pound. We will get them next year!
The penalty killed it..... It's amazing during the course of a game, the averge fan doesn't get how a little 5 yard penalty right there could be so Huge against a team like this... Get that 1st down and run the clock down and there's potential for a 14 point swing... Get set back in 2-12 and the Defense has it's ears pinned. A lot of us said, a Big key for this game comes right before Half.... Manning scored on the Ravens in that same situation.... You cannot give the ball back to Indy there...
Yep. Not much more to it than that. Jets secondary got seriously schooled. Hard to believe that was the # Pass Defense the way they got whipped yesterday.
No excuses Let's face it. We didn't have a legit pass rush and regardless if we got the run game going the colts were marching up and down the field. Manufacturing bliitzing will get you so far until you meet a Hof QB. They just outplayed us
I must say that 2 things hurt our chances to win this game. 1) SG going down was big, we were starting to gash the Colts defense for 6 and 7 yards a pop right before he went down. 2)This is the first time I would say coaching hurt us, 52 yard fg attempt was stupid, the continuous blitzing even after the colts made adjustments and picked it up. We should have done what the Ravens did keep everything in front of them and not give up the big pass plays.
Jets needed a miracle and yeah Manning went off... As a fan I'd just like to see our CB's on the field with Bart Scott over Idehebo and Coleman.... One positive is that there's no way the Jets ignore the secondary this offseason... It will be their pet peeve... If the Jets never made the playoffs - They possibly point to all the Defensive stats and stay put at CB... Now they know you don't beat one of theses final 4 teams without better CB play.
Once the Jets lost Strickland Bart Scott and Green, they had to go for broke, go after Mannig and try to get another Turnover - The Fumble they recovered was on a blitz... They had little choice but to Attack Manning and go ALL-IN.
And that's something to put in perspective. Strickland, Scott, Greene..Thomas Jones, Leon,Jenkins... Basically, the Colts were playing against half of the Jets JV. The only issue I have with this game, is given Sanchez performance early on, and the fact that the Colts would not have gameplanned for it... Once the Jets were without a healthy RB...why not either Let TRich carry the ball, or leave him in as a blocker and go 4 Wide the rest of the way out...
I was thinking, now in hindsight, that deep pass to Collie right before the TD at the end of the 2nd quarter that Coleman had a chance to intercept was very reminiscent of the ball Elway threw to Ed McCaffrey in the 3rd quarter in '98. Eerie turning point parallels there.
I don't understand why we stopped doing overload blitzes. We kept trying to blitz everyone right up the middle (obviously to try and force Manning out of the pocket) but the overload blitzes were what were getting to Manning early in the game so I'm not sure why Rex went away from them.
yep...it was exactly this. also lowery was a little banged up too. when you have drew coleman playing significant minutes you know we're fucked
we'll come back healthy next year with all our pieces back. BTW this game was over when we missed that first fieldgoal, and was sealed when we missed the second one and lost Greene. Even though we were winning at the time you just knew it was over.
I didn't think about it at the time ... but looking back now, the turning point was obvious. We we're all so excited as Jet fans to be up 17-6, but that was actually the beginning of the end... Up 14-6 Pace makes A HUGE play giving us the ball on the 29 with a few minutes left in the half ... and THAT'S where we blew the game. A FG is NOT GOOD ENOUGH in that situation. We had our foot on their throat and we let them go. YOU ABSOLUTELY NEED TO SCORE A TD in that situation. And here's the worst part ... 5 yard run on 1st down so now its 2nd and 5 and we're only 24 yards away from 21-6!!! We went backwards the next two plays, settled for a FG, and it KILLED us. Think about it ... not only did we leave 4 points on the field, but if we covered the damn 24 yards and scored, we probably would have run off most of what was left in the half and go into the loker room 21-6 with the Colts reeling. And ... we're getting ready to accept the 2nd half kick! Instead we kick the FG, leaving 2:11 on the clock ... and we're all celebrating 17-6 ... but I bet every Colt was thinking that they just dodged a huge bullet, and now Peyton still had 2:11 to go down the field and basically negate all the good we did in the first half with one good drive. I'll go to my grave KNOWING that not scoring on that drive cost us a trip to the Superbowl. As great as Peyton is, I honestly believe there's no way we lose that game if we're up 21-6 at halftime
I was excited, after Peyton being sacked only 10 times all year and we get him twice on their first two series I thought we truly had destiny on our side. Then, we lost-
