It's funny how a few years ago we didn't even have a feature back. Now we've got Jones, Leon, and of course THE GREENE MACHINE!
i loved the pick from day one. i was excited we moved up to draft him be being a big big ten fan i knew what he can do....that said i am curious to know what players they were looking at taking if we picked in our original spot. even though greene was probably the best player on the board. no doubt if the draft was redone tomorrow greene would be a first rounder
This just shows that Mike T. does his due diligence before giving away picks like they were candy. I'm seriously glad abt that. Obviously I'm happier this worked out for everyone, but this hardly constitutes Mike T. as some jackass mortgaging our future. Greene will be here to stay for a long time. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Mike T. stockpiles picks this year by moving down. This guy seems to know what he's doing. Also, props to Bradway and Co.
You gotta trust the preperation - and if a guy that ranks #19 on your big board is available in round 3... pounce. That said, I looked back over the past several years, and it's pretty much UNHEARD OF to have a 3 man draft class. Since we'll be picking 32nd this year, this could be a great chance to just sit back and let the draft come to us. Even if we don't trade up (which is very rare), we'll have a nice crop of rookies.
Anthony Lynn has done a marvelous job with the running backs this year. I hope he sticks around and doesn't take a head coaching job within the college ranks (like he was rumored to be). I loved the S.Greene pick at the time...and even moreso now, obviously.
This is a great point. Draft a D lineman to get after the QB and then go O lineman and then depth. Throw in Ryan's ability to pilfer the undrafted FA's and we're built for the future AND the present...
For all those T haters, this shows that he's learning and humble enough to listen to his people. Even our front office is a total team effort. I love it.
Just think... all through the regular season the Jets have the #1 rated rushing attack in the NFL... and then they put in a running back whose even better than the guy who accomplished that feat. Yeah, our running game is awesome.
If the Jets win the Super Bowl behind a fresh set of legs in Shonn Greene, they way they handled the runningbacks situation in 2009 will be heralded as genius. You lose your backup dynamic back in Leon and then don't give the #3 rookie back too many carries, you keep the brunt going to the grinder in TJ and then spring the Shonn Greene trap on the teams you face in the postseason... I wanted to believe this was what they were doing, but it's hard to believe it until it proves out. TJ may be dinged up, but we always had a backup plan. Bravo to Schotty and Rex.
