The discussion was about whether the Jets pass defense was overrated because of those two games. Here is the exact statement I was responding to: What the hell does Freeney have to do with that? I DID watch the game, and Manning got pulled midway through the 3rd quarter, as did his receivers. It was the same story in the Bengals game. How in the world are you going to argue, then, that we had 2 full games AS A DEFENSE against backups? If anything, you can make an argument for Benson not playing in the Cincy game, but it's our #1 pass defense that you need to worry about. You can't run on anyone anyway.
Really? We matched up well against the Chargers, but NOT against the Colts? You guys are mirror images of each other. Outstanding passing offenses with heavy TE play and a deep WR corps centered on a true #1 receiver, suspect rushing defenses, solid pass rush, terrible rushing offenses. That's absolutely laughable that you think we match up well with one and not the other.
I stand corrected...the Falcons had Ryan and they won the game still... Your team played the Pats 2x and split, one close game and one game you got blown out, Your team beat the Texans another 9-7 team good job, Chargers in the playoffs (first half they had their way with you, but second half good job), Colts missed many starters on the O and D and while the team that played, they had their way with your D, Revis got used a little bit in that game...Wayne could have had 2 TD's and your rush look stifled the entire 1st half of the game and this was to a very vanilla defense and offense on the field. Now, back on topic... Your team is 9-7 for a reason, you lost to Miami 2x and even Buffalo (with all of your starters and you were trying to win)... I don't mean to come of brash, but you are talking as if your team won 12 games this year...heck, even ten games. Your team played the schedule of a 3rd place team in their division and you were matched as so... To this point, stats are saying you have a great defense and a putrid offense...even Trent Dilfer was able to throw the ball with the 2000 Ravens. Sanchize decision making ability sucks because he is a rookie. Your team has played great in the playoffs and won each of your games with defense and a persistent run offense, but the SD game your team had a lot of luck on it's side and not to mention all of the missed fg's in both of your games.
When I was in High School it was called "Reading comprehension" when you see a statement that reads, "or" that means there is a postceding statement that may lead to something else...Hence the statement, " not playing starters OR not playing to win"... Thank you, come back and play later...
why is there a Colt fan derailing this thread? anyways, the 98 team gets the edge only because of QB play and veteran experience. That was some team, and once again, at that time, let us down big time, even though it was a fun season to watch. hopefully this team helps take some of the sting out of that loss 11 years ago
Is that where you learned to make up words like "postceding"? Which team wasn't playing to win? It seems like you're quite adept at making assumptions based on the end result rather than the initial intent. All week, both teams said they intended to win the game. In Indy, the plan was to build a lead with the starters for 2.5 quarters and nurse it with backups. They couldn't build up enough of a lead. In Cincy, they maintained all week that they were playing to win and enter the postseason on a high note. Their plans didn't change until they were down 3 scores. I noticed you still didn't address the issue of how Dwight bears any significance to your argument about our defense. Did he suddenly start playing fullback, too?
I thought I addressed this with you earlier...Speed and precise route running vs height... I think that is different... Manning 4 time MVP who caused defenses to strengthen the 3-4 defense with moving LB's... I think he is far better than Rivers...The look Rivers had in the 2nd half was the same look Peyton had on his face in 2004 and 2005 when it was used on him and he had to learn to deal with it...Hence 2006 it didn't work and in 2007 and 2008 we had key fumbles in the redzone against the chargers that turned the games around...but that's neither her nor there... Your defense couldn't breath on Manning in the first game and now, your team has figured him out and your secondary can now blanket our rcvrs? Revis struggled the first game... come on now... be real, I mean really real... I am not implying the Colts can not be beaten by the Jets...anything can happen and if your running game is on...the Colts will be in trouble...
Holy shit man, you're all over the place. My response was simply to dispute your post saying our D was overrated because we played some bad teams. Apparently you took that as me saying we're going to crush the Colts Sunday. We lost 7 games, but it was rarely due to our defense. I'm not even going to address the rest of your crazy post because this thread is getting way off topic. This is about the 98 Jets vs. the 09 Jets.
Did I mispell a word? What does it's simple, you have to understand the root word "cede" and then add a pre or subfix to the word "post" hence you get the word post...wait for it cede...put them together and you get postcede... it means to come after... My statement was "starters not playing and I said Freeney played 8-12 plays" Freeney is a starter and he only played minimal plays...hence, he was not on the field his normal amount of snaps...Gosh, my arms are getting tired from spoon feeding you...
If they had to play 10 times, I think the '98 team would win a majority of them right now, so overall I'd give the edge to the 98 team. But the fact that this is only year one of this team is a beautiful thing, and bodes well for our future
You are correct this is about the Jets of 98 vs. 2009... I am off the point and sorry for that...But I was responding to your insult within your post (therefore I added a little more rhetoric to my post) and the guy with the Cardinal as his avatar so much I became confused to which response was which...Sorry about that...
Where to start this post is just bad on so many levels(Shakes Head) The Jets team is 9 & 7 for several reason. New defensive scheme, rookie QB, QB comp in training camp setting back rookie QB, new starting WR brought in during the season, injuries to key Offensive/special team player and Nose tackle, banged up rookie power back early in the season. The Jets are also 9 & 7 because we won 7 out of the last 8, incorporated power running game, rookie QB growth and limited turnovers down the stretch and defense that adjusted to the loss of All pro Nose tackle. The Chargers having their way with us in the first half is almost as stupid as saying the Colts had their way with us with their starters in. The Chargers were up 7 at half time frustrated and never forced us to get out of our game plan. The Colts were up 5 at half time and never forced us out of our game plan. The Jets O wears on Defenses particularly fast light defenses. You have no idea if your D would have held up in that game pure speculation. You also discount Manning missing a wide open Wayne. Why would Manning miss a wide open Wayne? Did Wayne abuse Revis or did Revis get into Manning's head looking at film?
The '98 Broncos were better than this year's Colts. Granted the Jets were a much more complete team than this year's version. Elway equal to Manning, Rod Smith equal to Reggie Wayne, Terrell Davis way better than Indy's running game. Broncos D had Neil Smith, Steve Atwater, Romanowski I believe. I won a lot of money on that Broncos team against the Falcons in the Super Bowl. 8 point favorites and the game was sealed with Rod Smith's deep TD catch in the first few plays of the 2nd half.
Thank you for the lesson in etymology. It's shocking that with the rich and lengthy history of the English language, no one bothered to enter "postcede" into the OED, and therefore into the official English language. It's shocking, really, considering that even "D'oh" is in the OED. Oh well. Feel free to continue randomly shuffling prefixes and roots together and then pretending that they're legitimate words. What exactly is a subfix, though? Is that another one of your self-made words? You're like a machine. That high school "reading comprehension" class really did wonders, didn't it? Your statement was still irrelevant to the point you were trying to make. Freeney is a starter on YOUR DEFENSE. You were trying to make a point about how OUR DEFENSE was overrated. His playing time has nothing to do with that argument given the fact that they are never on the field together and therefore are never in direct opposition. Nice try with the spoon feeding. You've almost got it. Your arms may be getting tired, but so far every bit of food has been slopped into my ear or onto my shoulder. My stomach's still rumbling for some semblance of a real argument from you.
Absolutely, and add in playing at Mile High being so adverse, and overcoming the Colts, no disrespect to them, should be less of a challenge. That was some great team the Broncos had. It may be the case that there hasn't been a team since with quite that level of talent, coaching and effectiveness. NO TEAM including the current Jets is on that level.
I was going to Make a Thread, but theres a 50 post rule so I'm going to post the question here. Mawae vs Mangold A little unfair to Nick right now, since Kevin is a Borderline HOF ... but Nick's been a Beast for us. You guys think Nick can surpass Mawae?
Agreed, one of the better TEAMS ever assembled. I still remember when the Giants beat them at the stadium that year when they were 13-0 or 14-0.
Can? He's likely at the same level that Mawae was at his peak. Mawae was generally considered an arguable best center in the game by others in the league. Given the fact that Mangold finished #5 or 6 in Pro Bowl voting among fans and STILL won the starter's job, I'd say he's considered the best all by himself by league members.
as good as the 98 team was, i didn't have high expectations going into that game against that Bronco team.....it was only the fact that we were up 10-0 that made it so devastating
