Name the Jets' Starting QBs since Joe Namath, 1977 season. http://www.sporcle.com/games/nyjetsqbs.php 17/24 for me.. I'm sure the old school Jets Fans of over 30+ years would get at least 22/24. If you have spelling issues, you can just type their last names.
I got 17/24, blanked on the rest. But didn't Jeff Blake start a game or two? What about Jay Fiedler? They're not there.
Fiedler went down in the same game as Pennington for the season - he was the backup and never started. I don't think we re-signed him the following year.
Wow, I would have bet they started at least a game each. Forgot that about Fielder getting hurt in the same game....unreal.
Tom Tupa was the 3rd QB in Vinny's achilles game. Once he was put in, we couldn't replace him during the game.
Kyle Mackey was originally a strike replacement player for the Dolphins in 1987. He played against us the last strike game, when the regulars were about to come back and a lot of them crossed the picket line for that game. Pat Ryan started for the Jets. Mackey knew it was his one last shot, he was diving all over the field, the Jets must have taken notice. Then Joe Walton started him towards the end of the horrible 1989 season, almost out of desperation, just to make a change. We had four starting QBs that year, O'Brien, Eason, Ryan and Mackey.
Tupa was the punter, Rick Mirer dressed as the #3 QB as he only signed a week or two before the opener. When they got to the 4th quarter they could use Mirer, which they did. Only problem there is we were winning the game with Tupa, he threw a TD to Keyshawn on the first play after Vinny's injury. It wasn't all Mirer's fault, but we probably should have stuck with Tupa.
Well the ones I can remember since I started being a Jets fan. Richard Todd Ken O'Brien Browning Nagle Vinny Testeverde Chad Pennington Brett Farve Mark Sanchez Kellen Clemens Glen Foley Ray Lucas Rick Mirer Brooks Bollinger Boomer Esiason I know I'm missing someone, but off the top of my head, that's who I remember.
What an ugly looking list. We Colts fans that suffered through the 80s and 90s feel your pain. We had 16 QBs over a 14 year stretch (first season in Indy to the arrival of Manning). Not surprisingly, Indy and the Jets seemed to trade QB castoffs. Jeff George, Jack Trudeau, Jim Harbaugh, Mike Pagel, Chris Chandler, Gary Hogeboom, Paul Justin, Don Majkowski, Art Schlichter, Craig Erickson, Mark Herrmann, Kelly Holcomb, Blair Kiel, Matt Kofler, Browning Nagle, Tom Ramsey Of the two biggest talents on the list, we dumped one (Chandler) early in his career, to take a shot at the other (George), who must be one of the biggest malcontents to play QB in the last 30 years. Others on the list were more famous for their prison time (Schlichter) or their stint on Survivor (Hogeboom).
It's pretty amazing what Peyton has done for the Colts, making them a perennial contender. Way to hijack another Jet thread Colt Fan-
