Listen, I'm a Jets fan, and you are wrong. The Colts absolutely, positively bottled up and shut down Ray Rice. Nothing was there. His yards per carry was 4.6? Do you know most of that came on one run while the Colts were up 17? I'm all for thinking we can win, but the Colts are capable of playing the run and shut down Ray Rice, he did absolutely nothing last week. The Ravens threw because they couldn't run, the only time they could run was on 3rd and 20 or when they were already down 20-3.
I've read several posts where colts fans have reference manning when giving a reason they will shut down our running game. I just don't get it. But I haven't seen every colts game thsi season, maybe he has made some huge plays on D that haven't made sports center.
Because Manning gives them leads that prevent teams from sticking with the run. It makes plenty of sense.
forget the late Rice run....look at the first half series they had. They ran fin but decided when they had a chance to make a 2 yard run after getting 8 yards running on 1st and 2nd they there for some reason. It's like they decided to outsmart themselves by throwing the ball thinking the colts wouldn't expect it. Only issue is Flacco is so beat up and the Raven's have few receiving weapons.
this.we have a wr that will pull the safety.the ravens wr's can be played man up but edwards is able to stretch the field.1 or 2 p.a. passes goes over the 8 man box and 170 will be attainable.
Ok... You did not watch the same game I did. They absolutely, positively bottled up, Rice? You need to go rewatch that game and remove yourself from this thread until you do. That is absurd. Wow.. Although... Not as absurd as the guy who seems to think it is "INSANE" for us to rush our season average on a below average run defense. I'm still trying to figure this one out. There is a reason why it is our season average. We average that a game.. Week in and week out. Crazy, eh? Oh... What is with this Ravens gauge or comparison towards the Jets. These are two different teams, and the Ravens are not the #1 rushing offense. Guess who is? Weird...
I like how you responded to this (with a antagonistic comment, nonetheless), but didn't respond to me calling out your crap arguments. You know, where you say it will be a close game (many times over), and then proceed to imply that Manning will stop our run game by going up by multiple scores...
What's your point? My point was that Manning getting the Colts out to a lead is a good way to stop a team from running the ball. If the Colts are going to stop the Jets from running the ball Sunday, it's likely going to require Manning leading them to a 2 or 3 score lead.
yes that would make sense if they spent the whole season builtung 20 point half time leads. But they have played multiple close games, many of which they needed the final drive to win. A team with a great running game would want to be even more committed to running the ball on these games. This Manning had no bearing on us committting to the run. If anything wanting to keep him off the field in a close game is more of a reason to stay committed
I'm I losing my mind? OF COURSE if the game remains close, Manning has no impact on the other teams running game. The point is that he CAN have an impact on the opposing teams running game by building a big lead. Just because they played a bunch close games this year, does not change that fact. wtf.
You're 100% correct. YPC means everything. The way the game is played out has no bearing. A team that runs, gets stuffed, falls behind and has to start throwing has no relationship to the reason they fell behind. Did you ever think that the score is simply a symptom of what is really happening? I respond to a particular posters comments, I don't generalize or throw all Jets posters into the same boat. Why would you? I hear the collective theme that the Jets have the best defense and the best rushing attack, but I respond to an individual. You believe the Colts defense isn't that good and that the Jets will run roughshod over the Colts soft finesse defense. Good for you. I'm glad you're supporting your team, but you need to take off your green glasses, quit listening to Sexy Rexy's pep talks and be open to the other side. Whether you agree with them or not. On more than one occassion on this board I have acknowledged the strong rushing game and strong defense of the Jets and have acknowledged the lack of a rushing game by the Colts. You however simply come up with a generalization to dispel any reasonable counter point someone may provide. I'm sure you will have some insighful well studied reply for this, but the bottom line is, the Colts defense is better than you give them credit for and that will be the difference in this game. hmy:
You can make that argument about anyone. Point is he did not do what you say he CAN all season. Thus that argument holds no water.
I agree that Manning getting a lead often takes the other team away from the running game. My point is, if the Colts are behind in the fourth quarter which they were 7 times this year, there was no incentive for the other team to go away from their running game. They are up and we all know the best way to milk the clock is to run and stay in bounds. If the Colts are up by two scores in the fourth, the Jets are going to have to start throwing the ball. If they get up by three scores from the middle of the second quarter on, the Jets will have to start throwing. I'm not saying this is going to happen, just saying if this is the case.
Don't be surprised when your boy Manning has numbers like back in 2003 when we manhandled your Colts in the playoffs 41-0!!!! Good luck Sunday:beer: INDIANAPOLIS COLTS Passing Cmp Att Yds TDs P. Manning 14 31 137 0
And that would play right into the Jets hands. If the Jets are up late, they will continue to run and beat up a worn out defense. That's when we put up most of our rushing yards and often break a big one for a TD. no argument from me.
This is the most sense I've seen an Irsay fan make in a few days. Most others Irsay fans are coming across as if Manning is an unstoppable force and that there is no way the Jets will run for more than 60% of their season average this week. The Jets will stick with their rushing game for longer than any other team, other than perhaps Tenn at the end of the year.
