the swagger this team has and the way they play reminds me of the mets of 86 and the rest of the late 80's... they were the self proclaimed bad boys of baseball just like the jets are the bad boys of football... hopefully this season ends like that one.

I think the Mets of the Mid 80's are more comparable to the Colts. Best talent underachieved and only took home the ring once.

I agree....Mets were the dominate team of the late 80s, but only got it done once. The loss to Dodgers in '88 still leaves a bad taste in my mouth (espeically when the Mets were on the brink of going up three games to one before Scioscia's 2 run HR off Gooden to tie the game in the 9th inning). BTW i've been wondering this for years - could someone PLEASE tell me why Davey Johnson didn't pull Gooden after the leadoff walk to start the 9th inning? Especially with Orosco and Randy Myers in the pen!!!!!

I was actually thinking this today, I was watching a mets classic on sny from 88, and i just thought what a tough fucking team they were. I also remembered that the last time the jets won the superbowl the mets won a world series so im down for this. Unfortunately they couldnt pull it off again in 88 but still, that was a badass mets team, I wish I was around for that.

I don't think you can compare a football team to a baseball team. Baseball is the most individual of all team sports. There is more teamwork in one play in football than there is an entire baseball game. And a bad ass baseball team is an oxymoron.

But if you insist on making a comparison, there really is no comparison. The Mets were the best team in baseball in 1986, won well over 100 games, and were the favorite heading into the playoffs. Anything less than a World Series title would have been a disappointment.

The Jets are more like the 1973 Mets, who sneaked into the playoffs with a late season run and were just above .500 and then beat a heavily favored Reds team win the pennant. Unfortunately the Mets lost to the As in the World Series.

I prefer to say that the 2009 Jets are like the 2009 Jets. This is a new experience for me as a Jets fan and I don't find this team to be like any other.

I just watched that video like 8 times in a row. The blocking on that play was so good but it's "only" a 10 yard gain if Greene doesn't blow through the last guy. What a play.

The Mets should hire Mike Tannenbaum to be their GM.
