The best way I can describe my reaction to this news. http://media.photobucket.com/image/gary larson far side cartoons/Morphthecat/FarSide-CatFud.gif
With the collective "What have you done lately?" perception the public has, if the Jets play for the Lombardi, then yeah, Schotty would be a splashy signing. Cowher hasn't done anything but stay out of the spotlight. Shanahan got a job in DC so he's not in play. Gruden and Cowher are the big names still out there but they're "yesterday" by WC standards.. Schotts on the other hand is young and successful. The very image of the WC Yuppie should he accept the position.
That is really pretty smart. The young head coaches that have had major success, fell into great situations (Gruden - Tampa (after a rocky start in Oakland), Tomlin - Pitt). And Buffalo is not a great situation. If you are good, opportunities will come. He is better off learning more under Rex (and hopefully winning some titles).
Yeah, but without Oakland Gruden would have never ended up in TB. Same is true with Schottenheimer..he will never get one of the prestigious jobs until he pays his dues in a place like Buffalo..I'm sure he is smart enough to know that.
I still wouldn't give a shit if Schottenheimer left. Three good games in a row isn't enough to make me forget 4 seasons of lower than 15th-ranked offense in the NFL. I'm still pro-Callahan.
Yeah, Buffalo is a mess. He would be starting at the bottom and for some one with no HC experience, that could be a disaster. Stay here, hopefully have some good playoff runs, then he should have a choice between a couple of quality offers. Sometimes his playcalling has me screaming "wtf?", but I would not wish Buffalo on him!
yea I heard marty was number 1 target and brian was sort of a distant maybe. I hope we keep Schotty Jr. hes not as bad as people think and hes been much better lately.
You do realize that he's had 4 different quarterbacks during that time? Aside from whether or not we bring Braylon back, he'll have the same offense to coach, which means another offseason of prep. I'm pretty sure this time next season if he stays you'll beg to have him back.
if he's offered the job he goes.there probably not gonna be alot of openings after the 2010 season, lockout looming.not to many owners are goona want to pay a fired coach with no income coming in. also he mite interview for the jaguars job when it comes open tommorrow.
I hope you're right because he probably will be back. I disagree with the 4 different QB's excuse. Look how Pennington played in 08. Look how Favre is playing this year. Look at both of their previous years with Schott.... his system is obviously the problem.
You know what...I think everyone needs to get their damn asses out of the AFC East...Parcells....BB....Ryan. Schotty has a rookie qb that will be much better next year and a great offensive line with a budding star running back. Taking that job? He would be out of his mind. He should pull a Pete Carroll and wait to get into a weaker division..and a division without Ryan, BB and Parcells. Something tells me after next year...he will have many more choices compared to Buffalo,NY.
It would be pretty weird if Marty took the Buffalo job and Shottenjunior stayed on as our o-coordinator.
I doubt Schottenheimer leaves to take a HC job this year. Buffalo is far less than ideal for a young, inexperienced coach right now and there could conceivably be much better jobs open next season. Rex and Schottenheimer are clicking and the offense has taken off recently. Schottenheimer, after the last three games, has been spectacular with the play calling(save for a few mishaps) and he could be the best option at OC for us with these players. I know this is a complete reversal from the opinions I have expressed earlier, even as recent as Saturday in the game thread, but I think Schottenheimer has finally gotten the right plan down to win with these players and if the Jets can hold onto him for another season, next year is going to get even better. I hope he stays for one more year. San Diego delenda est.
Yes, because Favre was injury-free and had Adrian Peterson last year with the Jets. And FYI, Favre didn't play Schotty's system. It was pretty public knowledge that the playbook was pared down for Brett the Jet. Oh, and Brett also played this season in the NFC North. You know, the division that also houses the Bears and Lions. You may recall that last year an 11-win Patriots team not only didn't win our division, but didn't even play in January.
Shotty to Interview for the Bills Job Per Cimini Bills interested in Brian ? By Rich Cimini The Bills have formally requested permission to speak with Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer for their head-coaching vacancy and the Jets have granted permission, accoridng to a league source. By rule, the Bills are allowed to meet with Schottenheimer this week at a location and time convenient to him and the Jets, who are preparing for a divisional playoff game in San Diego. If the Jets win, the Bills can't speak to Schottenheimer again until the bye week before the Super Bowl -- if the Jets make it that far.
