Greene is the younger, fresher, more explosive RB at this point. As long as he remains red-hot, they have the luxury to not wear out TJ any more than necessary. Awesome situation for the Jets. Greene is coming on at the absolute perfect time.
Greene runs over people after first contact....TJones hits the field turf after first contact. If Greene can hold on to the football and played like he did in Cincy......he should be the starter "hands down".
I think the main reason to start Jones is this: Jones is very reliable. When the game starts, everyone is fresh (including the San Diego D), and Jones has proven he can protect the ball while picking up yardage. We can ill afford a fumble early in the game. I am not saying Greene would fumble, but odds are very good Jones will not. Greene has gotten better about protecting the ball, but he is still a rookie. This is a big game in a big spot and I think you have to go with the experienced vet. Greene should be brought in when Jones has softened them up a bit and has them breathing heavy. Green will still have to protect the ball, but I think the odds of one occuring have been diminished somewhat at that point. Plus, if Jones is doing OK, we already have points on the board and have taken time off the clock. Keep playin' it just like we have been.
Greene is kicking ass. My concern during the Bungles game every time he had the ball was that he was going to fumble. I like the TJ/SG combo. We need two guys like them, it is the winning combination right now.
Hehe... I have to hold my breath everytime Greene runs with the ball... almost feels like John Hall lining up for a field goal. As he gets tackeled I find myself yelling "hold on to that ball, Petey!!"
I like the way we use both right now. I think the coaching staff realizes when one is running better then the other and will try to give that guy the ball more.
Greene's fumble rate has been going down since his third, but he did fumble in the first Cincy game, but it didn't hold up due to a Cincy penalty off the ball. Jones is more sure handed. I certainly hope those three fumbles earlier were anomalous, and Greene will be more sure handed. We shall see.
A Tandem feels right to me. TJ has done nothing to make me rather see him on the bench. I like the combo. Start Thomas Jones and bring Shonn in for more plays as the game progresses - like they did Saturday.
It's a two back league nowadays. #1 is just a title. Imagine if we had a healthy Leon Washington, my god what a trio that would be.
Ewing effect. We have it going on both sides of the ball right now (although Revis is obviously the soul of our defense now). Out of all the crap Bill Simmons has done over the years, the Ewing effect is very much real.
Maybe true but we miss a huge talent (especially in the short throw/pitch/screen game) with him out. Sure, it put Shonn in the spotlight but having our best playmaker out isn't a positive
benson we shouldn't get so ahead of ourselves, I believe Cedric Benson rushed for 59 yards against the chargers, though I must say Palmer threw for over 300 yards. I belive they will stack the line against the Jets and make us throw the ball, Chargers are a well oiled machine, I think their is a 30% chance we can pull off the upset.
Chargers are a lot of things but I wouldn't call them a well oiled machine. They are basically the Saints of the AFC. They have an offense with a not so great run game but an excellent QB with many targets, which he uses to exploit the fact that most defenses can't defend a legitimate 3rd, 4th or 5th receiver. Not good for the Jets. But their defense is, as I think SD's owner put it, soft. The Jets power running game can hurt this team, even if they stack the box. And the Bengals stacked the box last week and the Jets had plenty of answers for it, whether it was the screen pass to Keller, the slant to Cotchery or the bomb to Braylon (which I'm praying gets caught this time).
I think with the Charger's weak line we could see the linemen getting blocks on linebackers and basically taking everyone out.
