i feel like we dont throw enough for sanchez to look at keller enough so when he runs his routes hes not as inspired to get open. He never seems to be ready when a pass is thrown his way.
I think brilliance is motioning your fullback wide 4-5 times per game. That will fool defenses completely. They will never know what hit them.
Very true after a while your just like why am i tirering myself out running these routes when he doesnt even look my way
yea with a run first offense the recievers dont always stay sharp because theres not enough to go around. Its kind of like a strike out pitcher doesnt keep his fielders on their toes.
Keller has the skills. I'm certain that the CS has kept his influence to a minimum, and come playoff-time will open his playbook. Look for Keller to break out this playoff-season.
I don't think he is being utilized correctly but he has still managed to match his numbers from last year even though they have called over 150 less pass plays.
Yes, especially motioning the FB out of the backfield to a wide out. I'm always puzzled when I see T-Rich or Hartsock lined up as the only wide out on their respected side. Like what is the point? I'm sure these two would be utilized closer to the OL blocking, than posing as "valid" pass catching threats out wide
You would think that the TE would be a rookie QB's best friend, but Keller hasn't been involved at all. I think we should use some screens to the RB's to free up Keller in the short game.
First off, you can't even spell the drama queens name, who played QB here for a bunch of weeks. Secondly, you are trying to compare the rookie Sanchez with 'Farve' (Favre). Sanchez tries a bit too much and shows signs of aggressive decision making trying to go down the field more often than he should. That is why Keller doesn't get many looks. Thirdly, Keller has dropped several passes this year. He could have very easily had extra 10 catches. He dropped like 4 or 5 catchable passes against the Bill I believe. His production is similar to his rookie year. He may just pass it by a few yards but nothin significant. I also thought we would see him break out with a rookie QB, but that isn't the case. Sanchez looks at Cotch and Braylon far too often n by the time he looks at Keller, its too late in most cases. Maybe its the playcalling. People say Schotty doesn't call a lot of high percentage passing plays. I have seen several plays where Sanchez ignores his blanket (RB, TE) and tires to go deep. We all just want to look for ways to bash BS. Besides, we haven't even passed as much as last year and we have two excellent WRs. You add all of that up and you get a TE that didn't increase his production from last yr. Not that it dropped either. I am confident Keller will reach 800+ yards next yr with a QB who is not a rookie and an offense that will look to pass it a little bit more. About the Brad Smith, are you saying we used him more than we should have? If so, you haven't been watching the Jets games. If you meant we should be playing him more than he has in the past, then I couldn't agree with you any less.
First and foremost, this is the most indicting statement for Schottenheimer. His job, most of all, is to make sure the kid throws when he is sure he can succeed, not when he has to because he is with 3rd and long situation. This is NFL, and not some Pac-10 football. The defense he has to face each week will be much more physical and talented than whatever he had to face back in USC ever. The order of the day should have been 1.) effective running game and 2.) high-percentage short passing attack. The kind of offense Pennington would have thrived at. Now, Play action fake here and there would have been the icing in the cake. As it stands, Jets do not have a legitimate slot receiver, nor do they have a legitimate pass-catching RB threat. This means that short passing game MUST revolve around Dustin Keller, if at all. Initially, I was expecting some 2:1 ratio between run plays and pass plays, and again, 1:1:2 among Edwards, Cotchery and Keller for the pass reception. Sure, they won't be getting a lot of looks, but if you consider that an offense usually calls up to 88~90 plays a game, it's not too much to guess that Sanchez would still throw more than fair share of the offensive plays (not counting the punts and FGs, he'd be throwing somewhere close to 24~26 times a game.) While it would be absolutely absurd to expect Sanchez to complete every pass, it would be more than reasonable to expect that he should be able to complete more than 65% of the pass attempts (rather, close to 70%) meaning, he'd be completing 16 to 17 passes a game. If he can connect to Edwards and Cotchery for 3 to 4 times, while completing his passes to Keller for 7 to 8 times, he'd look MUCH better than how he looks now with 20 INTs. Of course, all this stuff is dust - Schitty sure knows how to fuck up a perfectly legitimate offensive personnel. I, for one, have NEVER seen Keller splitting out wide since he came to the Jets. Nor have I seen him splitting in the slot. I've said how much I'd have loved to see him positioned in all different places to wreck havoc on the defense. NONE of that happened at all. This retard sure knows something, don't you think? Receivers will drop passes, just like QBs make a bad throw that results in INT. That's not something you should hold against him - it's more likely that his coach (I don't know who the Jets' TE coach is, but I think he fucking sucks) is not teaching Keller the important basic stuff that he should be teaching. And if Sanchez is looking at Keller as a 3rd option usually, that also means Schottenheimer is NOT designing plays that feature TEs, the way Antonio Gates is featured in San Diego for instance. TEs don't need to be the #1 receiver in the offense (more so in Jets offense, as Braylon is already here) but some plays should involve TEs with WRs as decoys - of course, Schottenheimer is not capable of this. From the way it looks, it's not just the plays that is problematic. It's rather, the general offensive scheme on which the offense operates. If Brian cannot make Sanchez understand what he must be doing in this offense (i.e. short passes in favor of long ones, as you contend) then what good is he anyway?
Next year with the same Oline, same QB, same receivers buy a new OC and different philosophy will make Keller as relevant as he was with Brett whats his name
How about next year with a slightly improved OL ( I believe we need to replace our pro bowl ? OG Faneca and add depth ) a more experienced QB our best offensive playmaker back ( Leon) our offense starts to click and we can forget about all these our OC sucks and this player of that player isn't utilized well.
