"More disappointment in store for Jets fans"

Bengals among four teams ready to close out year with road win.
    By Jason Feller | NFL.com

Game: Cincinnati at N.Y. Jets (8:20 p.m. ET)

    Venue: Giants Stadium

Last time at site: New York RB Thomas Jones accounted for three touchdowns as the Jets defeated the Bengals, 26-14, on Oct. 12, 2008.

Reason for road optimism: While there is the chance that Cincinnati could rest most of its starters, and play this game as more of a preseason outing, the Bengals' players seem to want to go all out. Chad Ochocinco says he pestered coach Marvin Lewis constantly in the hopes he could play, and the team may just approach this game with some intensity, given how it has struggled over the past month. Cincinnati has not been sharp in recent weeks, but by ending the season on a high note and eliminating the Jets from the playoffs, it will establish positive momentum heading into the playoffs. The desire to find that rhythm may just outweigh any concerns about resting up.

The Jets have teased their fans many times over the past three decades, and this game could provide just the latest chapter to that novel of discontent. Everything fell into place for New York last week. The Colts removed their starters in the third quarter, allowing the Jets to rally for the win, and then the Dolphins, Jaguars and Broncos all lost, giving the Jets control of their own destiny. Unfortunately for New York, Cincinnati is not a good matchup. The Jets rely on their running game and defense. The Bengals, however, have the league's second-ranked rush defense and excel at winning close, low-scoring games. Additionally, Cincinnati has just the kind of playmaking cornerbacks that have befuddled Mark Sanchez all year. Giants Stadium may just close out with another loss, and more fans storming to the exits in anger.

I was at the 24-16 game with Palmer out. This week he is back, but the Jets hang on and make the playoffs!

Analysts are really hanging on to the belief that the Jets are going to choke because history says we should.

The article states that Cincy is not a good matchup for the Jets, but fails to mention how we're not a good matchup for them either.

The Bengals do not score much. EDGE: Jets. The Jets do not matchup well against the Colts in my opinion, but the Bengals are very beatable. This week and next.

ESPN expert picks ALL chose the Jets except Merrill Hodge, so maybe the analysts don't actually feel this way.

We can beat them with their starters. Blitz Palmer, put Revis on OchoCinco and we can hold the Bengals to less that 14 points, I guarentee it.

Then for offense just run the Ball. and hey maybe we can get special teams help again.

But if the Bengals lose, then their confidence and momentum is shot twice, since not only will they have lost the game, but they lost the game against the same team they play next week. I think it is more advantageous for them to hold back this week and then play all of their cards next week.

Does anyone know what the Bengals forums are saying? Do they want the Bengals to play their starters?

bengals fans are really mixed....but from my observation it would seem that they want their players rested especially after rey went down last week

with Odom and Maualuga ruled out.....the Bengals will be hard pressed to stop the run. The only person that could fuck this game up for us is Schotty.

The bengals would be crazy to treat this as a real game..if they lose they face sanchez again which would probably be more favorable than flacco or big ben

im pretty sure the jets record for play in games like this is fairly good. history does not support the notion the jets will choke in this game.

they are much more likely to win this game in impressive fashion and then lay an egg in the playoff rematch IMO.

Uhm but that doesn't even make sense. Everyone is acting like the Jets have a history of losing win-and-in situations, but they don't. Did they choke it away in 2006 against Oakland?? Did they choke it away in 2002 against the Packers???? Stop acting like the Jets have never won a big game before. It's simply a distortion of the truth. Jesus the SOJ shit drives me crazy and apparently it makes everyone illogical and forgetful.

EXACTLY!!!! why does everyone act like the Jets have choked away 10,000 win-and-in games at home, when, in point of fact, they have actually WON several in recent years???

Very true, actually with the exception of 2004 (where we actually lost and got in from the bills loss) all of our playoff berths this decade were win-and-in situations I believe.

Hopefully the gals decide to play their starters 4 quarters. Hopefully the Jets knock them down and stomp them into the swamp. I can see why Hodges would pick the gals however. They have played well all season and they have a good D and a veteran QB. It seems like it will be a low scoring game that will be decided with special teams and turnovers.

For the Jets to win Sanchez & the Jets Offense will likely have to step up and play at a higher level than they have since Early November. The OL matchups b/w Mangold Faneca and Dbrick against Dhani Jones, Tank Johnson should be excellent. Also will be interesting to see how much the gals D misses maualuga and whether the Jets can roll on the ground behind Woody.

Interesting Stats: The Jets haven't won a game where Sanchez attempted more than 20 passes since Game 3 of the season against Tenn. The Jets haven't won any game this season in which Sanchez has thrown more than 1 INT.

Cincy will likely try to do what other Defenses have done successfully agains the Jets: Shut down the run and force Sanchez beat you through the air. Its a good strategy and Cincy has the personel to execute it well. However if Sanchez can beat Cincy through the air w/o turning it over then the Jets might have a good shot at winning the game because the Jets D will most likely keep the game close.

Jets have played 10 win-and-in games the last 28 years....they are 6-4 in those 10 and in one of the 4 losses (2004) they got in anyway when the Steeler subs beat Buffalo (gulp).
