Seeing that it seems no one is on the Schotty bandwagon, if we were to no longer require his services next year (probably won't happen, but we can all dream), who would be on your list of replacements (realistic, not someone who isn't available or is dead)? I understand that some options are not known yet, just wanted to see some names thrown out there.

    Callahan?

I say we bring in Brian Schottenheimer. He knows all the players names.

Not a fan of Kubiak. Really not a fan of bringing in outside help when we have two guys on our own staff that have sat in the chair of the OC before, one of whom also coached as an HC in the super bowl.

Rex said Schotty is back if he wants it. And he will want it.

i hope your joking. being in the dc area I have never seen a guy more lost than jim zorn. he was just plain awful in the redzone, the reason why they called a dude out of the retirement homes calling bingo to consult on the playcalling.

Excellent point, it's pretty embarrassing when they have to tap a retired coach, to be the OC.

I think if we make the playoffs we are stuck with BS for the next 2 years.

I agree. Zorn's also not really an experienced offensive coordinator. He's spent most of his time as a qb coach (i would not be opposed to replacing cavanaugh with zorn.)

I'm digging this idea if Cavanaugh gets bumped to OC.

I agree completely here. He was doing way to much in Washington(Head Coach, Offensive Coordinator, QB Coach, calling the plays) and looked lost with his personnel, not knowing how to use them. The latter part of those problems is the same reason I want Schottenheimer gone. If we brought in Zorn as an OC it would be 2 weeks into the preseason games before the board starts bitching about how Leon/Greene/Jones (take your pick) is not getting enough carries or how Braylon is going across the middle too much and not down the sidelines. Zorn as an OC would pretty much be the same if not worse than Schottenheimer.

Cuz Madden doesn't have cute play calling. Besides, you probably ask for Madden's suggestion from time to time lol

For now it seems as if Schotty is going to be around for another season, so why don't we save the speculation until after the season is over?

Rex also said he was perfectly happy with the QBs on the roster heading into the draft(Clemens, Ratliff, Ainge) when all the QBs knew that the Jets were going to take a QB early in the draft. I don't have a link to the source but it was a radio or podcast interview with Ratliff right after the trade. If anyone can find it please post it.

This has been his MO since he's gotten here. He tells the media that everything is all hunky-dory and keeps everything in the locker room. Even if Schottenheimer's fate has not been decided, Rex is not going to go on the radio and tell everyone that he wants him out while they are in the middle of a playoff hunt, right before the two most important games of the season. There is just no reason to cause that kind of friction, especially not now.

Obviously EXTREMELY unlikely, but I would love a Charlie Weis hire as a big fuck you to the gay Pats. I just hope he can win without the video cameras.

What I'm hoping is that at the end of the season Ryan and Tannenbaum sit down for a debrief on the year and take a long look at what worked and what didn't work. When they get to the offensive side of the ball they're going to have to ask themselves if the Jets offense was effective this year, which it hasn't been so far, and why that is.

Now the knee-jerk reaction will be that we had a rookie QB and Leon Washington got hurt and Jerrico Cotchery missed some time and we integrated a new WR in mid-season, etc.

What I'm hoping is that they go beyond that point and ask themselves how the offense differed this year from what we got in 2006, 2007 and 2008, and that they ask themselves what was similar also.

The most similar thing of course was all the picks. The damn Jets QBs throw more picks than it's possible to throw and be anything more than a middle of the pack team. They've been doing this since Schotty took over to the tune of 78 interceptions in the last 4 years. They've been doing this despite the fact that they're not exactly a bombs away team and in fact had probably the most risk-averse QB in the NFL handling the first 25 games or so of Schotty's tenure.

I doubt that Sanchez is going to develop into a good NFL QB unless he gets a better system to work in. Clemens flunked out big time trying to make the X's and O's of the system come together and Sanchez has looked positively bewildered on some of the throws he has made this year. Chad Pennington and Brett Favre had their share of "who, what, why?" moments also trying to make the thing work.

It's possible that Schotty's system actually works and that it is just the incredible turnover at QB that has prevented it from breaking out. Its more likely that Schotty's system has caused the incredible turnover at QB over the last 4 years.
