I really don't give a shit what the defense didn't do or what Sanchez did in the final drive when the game should be over after Atlanta put the score up with a minute a change left. I'll give Feely the miss. But to not get a spot down and then to have another blocked, the game should be over by kneeling the ball three times after Gonzalez's TD. Fucking disgraceful. They have lost two games for this team this year. Yes, there is more blame to go around - but you wouldn't be going apeshit on Sanchez and the defense if those fagets did their fucking job. Retard Teams is there new name. Call them Retard Teams.
This year just isn't the year man. The Jets have a long way to go and that way is up. Keep the faith.
I'm more than looking forward to this coming decade. Its going to be nasty defense and a QB who will come into his own and emerge into a good QB who can punish teams after they make turnovers, not to mention he'll have an awesome running game to do most of the work. This team will be nasty for as long as Ryan is here. But for the Retard Teams to not hold their end of the bargain twice this year. There is no excuse.
gotta hand it to us, we're the most CREATIVE team when it comes to losing. I could have come up with 50 ways we lose the game today and not one of them would have included missing 3 makable FGs...
I couldn't believe I logged on and saw no threads about special teams. Does anyone else not use their brains? When I act like a know-it-all, I'm allowed. You can too Vision.
i was thinking the same thing a few moments ago... and i also did the math and the jets gave up 25% of their schedule to shooting themselves in the foot...
I feel like this is the thread for rational people. The special teams is the major reason we lost this game today and I can't see how people can blame it on Sanchez.
Couldn't agree more. Two games solely rest on the STs and I can't believe that some people here can't see it. What is even more inexcusable is that we have one of the best, if not the best ST coach in the league and shit like this is happening on his watch.
Botching one chip shot FG in this spot is unacceptable, we freaking botched 3 of them and people are still blaming Sanchez. This game should have been over and Sanchez played a pretty decent game. The O moved the ball today and put the team in position to win.
Because all they see is the interceptions and not the fact that the third one doesn't happen if the ST did their damn job. He had a horrible INT at the start of the game. the other one I didn't see, but he hands the ball off three times and the game is over after Atlanta's score. The defense could allow Atlanta to walk into the endzone on that 4th down and it wouldn't have mattered. But everyone wants to blame the offense and defense today. No, its on the Retard Teams.
I promise you no one is taking this harder than Westhoff.....I really hope the FO doesn't scapegoat him in the offseason... This offseason is gong to be Marine bootcamp for the special teams I think...Westhoff is going to attack a 18-inch dick to the end of his cane to make sure players will only make a mistake one time in their life...
I thought about starting a thread but I assumed there was already one I didn't see. The whoel unit sucks. We have no viable options returning kicks or punts. I commend Jericho but he lacks the explosivness to be a return man. Weatherford is an average (on a great day) punter although I thought he was very good today. I really like Feely but the miss is on him but dropping a snap is inexusable although honestly I wanted them to go for it on 4th and goal from the 2. The way the D was playing they should have. Am I the only one who is starting to have concerns about Dearth? This is now 2 weeks in a row he has had a bad snap that resulted in a missed FG. Last week didn't matter but this week it cost us the game.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not placing blame on Westhoff. I know how fiery and passionate of a coach he is, and I bet he is gonna let the ST guys hear from this season's putrid performances all the way until opening day of September in 2010.
So, why are our special teams underperforming? On returns, it's pretty clear. While Brad Smith did very well today, he's no Leon. And frankly, Cotchery can hold onto a punt, but he can't do much with it. Leonhard can, but I don't want him opening himself up to injury. Kicking game? Not enough reps as a unit. Clemens is holding now? What happened to Weatherford? I'd like to see a holding specialist. I'm also hopeful Dearth hasn't just lost it, because he's had some questionable snaps as of late. And as for coverage teams... I think the same problem exists. Not enough specialists. That comes from thin drafts. When you pick up six or seven players per draft, you come away with a few guys who can contribute to offense or defense and a few guys who can play important roles on ST. We've had thin drafts lately, so we have thin special teams. I do not, under any circumstances, want to jettison Westhoff. I want to see him get more weapons; hopefully our personnel department will give him that this off-season.
I actually thought on the missed field goal it was a bad hold. It looked like the ball was tilted way further to the right then it should and that's what caused the ball to veer that way.
Haha maybe it's Clemens revenge because they told him they weren't going to re-new his contract I think Dearth will be gone after this season... he snaps many high balls...
Absolutely - there have been many poor snaps this year, and as you say, almost always high (often to the right as well). The interesting thing about the Jets this year is that in only one game did they "deserve" to lose (the second New England game) - in every other loss they could have won if not for horrific failures by the special teams (Miami and today), QB (Buffalo and New Orleans), and defense (Miami and Jacksonville). I can't really recall another season where the team looked both so good and so bad at the same time.
