I don't know. Baltimore nearly lost to a Dennis Dixon lead Pittsburgh. What do you think they're going to do with Big Ben in there and the possibility to knock their hated rivals out of the playoffs?
An Odd Thing Has anyone noticed ? ... If we make the playoffs at 10-6 we'll have to beat the Colts and Cincy to get there. IF that happens, we'll be the #6 seed and I believe our playoff schedule could very well be right back @ Cincy (#3 seed vs #6 seed), then @ Colts again (#1 seeed vs #6 seed). Strange ... and I wonder if that's a good or a bad thing playing the same teams again.
Looking at the tie breakers, two of these three teams losing will allow us to control our own destiny: DEN, MIA, BAL Accuscore predictions: NYJ wins 63% of the time MIA wins 42% of the time DEN wins 81% of the time BAL wins 79% of the time probability of at least 2 out of 3 losing: .58 * .19 * .21 + .58 * .19 * .79 + .58 * .81 * .21 + .42 * .19 * .21 = .226 22.6% chance probability of exactly 1 out of 3 losing: .58 * .81 * .79 + .42 * .19 * .79 + .42 * .81 * .21 = .506 50.6% chance probability of all three winning: .42 * .81 * .79 = .268 26.8% chance Assuming the Jets win, that's a decent chance to control our own destiny.
Our chances are increasing week by week, I just hope we can win this weekend, GO JETS! Were still in it guys, pulses still beating ... Miami HAS to lose this weekend and so do the Ravens, hopefully we don't look ahead to the Colts next weekend
that would suck. They'd know how to attack Sanchez better, and find a problem with the defense. Those teams are better than the jets and the Jets would be playing both teams at their stadiums. Rookie QBs don't do well in their 1st playoff appearance. I would expect Sanchez to suck come January, but I want the kid to get the experience in his 1st year. It helps growth. The best thing is for the Pats to get the #3 seed. They are so broken i can't see them getting better come playoff time.
Yeah all this talk doesn't mean shit if we don't win Sunday, just win guys, and who knows what will happen especially if were peaking going into the playoffs, I don't want to put any more pressure on our QB but this is his stage, we can't afford another crazy 3, 4 pick game from him or were dead
We could be the #4 seed at 10-6. There was an article a few years ago that argued pretty convincingly that it was very hard to beat a team in the playoffs that you had beaten recently in the regular season. I think the number was 57% wins for the team that had lost the first game, although it's long enough ago that that's just a recollection. Last year the Steelers beat the Ravens in the AFC championship game after beating them twice in the regular season including a win in December.
That argument is so stupid. We all know we have to win Sunday. Stop talking to us like we're morons, no offense. It's good to know who needs to lose in order to reach the ultimate goal of making the playoffs. Obviously a loss knocks us out, but just winning isn't good enough either yet.
why the hell would the Jets be looking ahead to next week? the Colts game isn't bigger or anymore important than the Falcons game.
Yeah no shit, players look forward to matchups all the time, why do you think there are games called trap-games ... no one is calling you or anyone here a moron if that's what your implying, teams at times look a little farther ahead, it can be a distraction, you don't know what these players are thinking so don't try and come at my neck just because i'm stating my opinion. And when I refer to us looking ahead i'm talking about the team not the fans. Jets have been in this situation multiple times, all i'm hoping for is a different result, I just think this playoff talk is premature, we haven't proved much yet in my eyes cept that were a good defense, the teams' back is against the wall, i'm waiting to see how we respond to it, i'm not saying anything more or less
except a trap game is one where that immediate "trap" game is comparably irrelevant compared to the next because of the immediate implications of the game against the team they are looking ahead to and are thus falling into a trap against the team they are facing now by ignoring them. that doesn't occur with the Jets, or any other team in the NFL at the end of the season who is battling for the playoffs, because all of the games are equally important. that's football 101. no player is looking forward more to a matchup in the last week of the season if the game ahead of them today is a must-win as well. you can't honestly believe otherwise, that's just f'ing stupid.
Honestly who knows, but yeah I forgot you know the players that well and know EXACTLY what their thinking in their heads, I don't have to go back to history to tell you what kinda bullshit collapse this team has had in the past, what do you call the last 4 outta 5 games last season? Yeah one game at a time approach my ass, I don't even want to bring up the bullshit moments of last season when we were CLEARLY unprepared to play those games out on the west coast, maybe you got a short term memory and forgot what happened last season cause I sure as hell didn't forget
