I'm not a huge fan or anything, it just seems lately everyone here is heaping all the blame on him. When it gets to blaming him for Chad's injuries I have to say stop, wait a minute. We were discussing it in another thread, Favre with 18 years experience has to know where he can't throw the ball hurt and stop throwing it there. Nobody can do that for him once the ball is snapped.

As a disclaimer I would like to add that I was not opposed to BS when he was hired by Mangini, I'm always for giving anyone a shot especially in the NFL, I mean it's better than hiring the same unproductive men over and over again.

My dislike of him is not personal, it has to do with his lack of ability as an OC, anyone else would have been fired already and I feel he is not what Rex wants and it's only going to set back MS for another year. I have had 3 plus years of him and it's not any better than it was when he first got here.

Flacco had 257 pass completions in 2008; he had 428 attempts in 16 games, or an average of 26.75 per game. Sanchez has 297 attempts in 12 games, or 24.75 per game, 2 attempts per game fewer than Flacco had. In fact, the Jets have the fewest pass attempts of any team in the NFL.

I'm not a big fan of Schottenheimer, but the accusation that he's calling an unusually large number of passes per game is not true; in fact, the exact opposite is true.

Great point. I don't think Schottenheimer is so much to blame as Sanchez is. But Sanchez is a rookie so this is expected. When Sanchez doesn't turn the ball over, our offense is actually pretty good.

If you look at what the Ravens did with Flacco last year one of the first things you notice is that he had his most pass attempts in the 2 games they got blown out of, throwing 38 passes in the 31-3 loss at Indy and then throwing 33 while the Giants were blowing them out 30-10. They also tended to shut him down in the 2nd half once they got a lead, with him throwing 243 passes in the first half and only 185 in the second half.

The Jets on the other hand were using Sanchez as a main part of the offense until very recently. The overall numbers look lower than Flacco's rookie year but that's because 3 of the low pass attempt totals by the Jets have come in the last 4 weeks. The Jets have won all 3 games where Sanchez has attempted less than 20 passes. You'd think this would not have been rocket science for them up until the Raiders game, and you'd also think they might have learned something from that game instead of getting right back on the Sanchez Express.

Sanchez entire rookie season would look different to us at this point if Brian Schottenheimer had not had him throw the ball 16 times in the 2nd half and OT in the wind and rain against Buffalo. I still cannot fathom what kind of deranged fucktard would do that with a rookie QB who had already looked somewhat shaky in the 1st half and with a rushing offense that was dictating to the defense all day long. Schotty should be fired for that game alone.

    Sanchez not practicing for Jets

    Associated Press

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Mark Sanchez did not practice for the New York Jets on Monday while recovering from a sprained right knee, but coach Rex Ryan is optimistic about the rookie quarterback's chances of playing Sunday at Tampa Bay.

Sanchez sprained the posterior cruciate ligament in the knee while diving for a first down in New York's 19-13 win over Buffalo on Thursday night.

"He's so much better," Ryan said. "We thought we were going to get good news from the MRI, we did. Just the way he's approaching his treatment and rehab and everything else, you can tell he is definitely willing. That's for sure."

Ryan said Sanchez spent the majority of the weekend at the team's facility rehabilitating the injury.

"Treatment, if there's 18 hours a day, that's what it seems like," Ryan said. "He's been here the whole time. His spirits are good. I know he expects to play. We're optimistic he'll play."

Ryan was uncertain whether Sanchez would participate in the team's next practice Wednesday. Sanchez's red no-contact No. 6 jersey was on the field Monday -- but it was cornerback Donald Strickland, recovering from a concussion, wearing it. Backup Kellen Clemens worked with the first-team offense and would start if Sanchez can't go.

"He's got that time," Ryan said of Clemens. "He can be with the 1's today. We'll progress it through the week. I think that's only a smart thing to do."

Sanchez will initially wear a brace to stabilize the knee, and could play with it Sunday against the Buccaneers if medically cleared. He already wears a brace on his left knee from a previous injury.

Ryan wasn't sure if he has ever seen a quarterback play with two knee braces.

"Did Joe Namath?" he said, laughing. "I'm not really sure. I think [Dan] Marino might have."

The Jets (6-6) are in the middle of the AFC playoff mix after their win over the Bills, and hope their starting quarterback won't miss any time.

"If it's in the opinion of the medical staff that Mark can't protect himself the way he needs to, then obviously that decision will be easy to where he doesn't play," Ryan said. "Right now, we're feeling very good about where he is now and I think the doctors are, too. Does it take a turn and go south? Maybe it could, but right now we feel very good about how he's progressing."

Rex wants the Bucs to prepare for Clemens--have the DBs run a lot of sprints so they don't get tired returning all those picks to the house. Then we surprise them and start Sanchez.

I've been harping on Schottenheimer for a while, but I agree that the argument that he throws the ball too much is incorrect. It's WHEN he throws the ball. He uses the running game to get to the red zone and then constantly tries to score through the air from the red zone. Hardly ever is it a balanced march downfield, as soon as the team is inside the 20, they throw the ball, use single wing formations, end arounds, just stay away from the rushing attack.

His situational playcalling has been suspect from day one.

I am glad we are going to TB to play since it may be snowing a bit up here on Sunday. Just a couple of inches.

A bigger, more important snowstorm may be on tap for next Tuesday or Wednesday.

I don't disagree with this at all, and certainly anyone who doesn't think that the play calling against Buffalo was horrific wasn't paying attention. Having said that, while in the last 3 Jets wins he threw 17 passes or less, in the first 3 he threw at least 30 twice. It's very difficult to sort out causality here - when the Jets throw less they win more, but when the Jets are ahead in a game they will naturally throw less. Which is causing which?
