I think it's 50/50 they finish 9-7 at this point. Houston has a strong offense and they play them on the road. The Patriots defense is a real liability this year. Buffalo is a division rival who almost upset the Pats last time around and they're going in there also. Jacksonville will be fighting hard week 16. It's not hard to see 2 losses in those 3 games the way the Pats are playing at the moment. Hell, even Carolina is capable of an upset at this point. They beat Arizona a month ago in Arizona.
The fact that the Jets don't play anyone they are chasing means all they need to do is take care of themselves. The rest of the teams are not going to win out so if the Jets stay focused each week they will play Indy with playoffs within their reach. Indy can clinch the top seed this week with a win so it just depends when they decide to rest some players. I don't mind playing a resting Indy team with our season on the line.
hopefully indy loses 1 and wins 1 before the jets, so they will have clinched home field and won't be going for an undefeated season. i believe we can take em with the #1 pass defense. still, you take any advantage you can get. not sure why people keep doubting new york's chances even if they do win out. the other teams competing have bad schedules except for baltimore. we need pitt to beat baltimore, and our 10-6 record will get a wild card.
especially when you look at the schedule of the teams we are competing with playing each other or division leaders the playoffs are wide open in December
Even if Indy is 14-0 when we play them, all the Jets D need to do is get to Manning 2 or 3 times before the half. We don't need the sack, just a couple hard hits on him as the ball is being released. Once the Colts CS realizes he could possibly injure a wrist or something with the Jets D coming after him, they will pull him from the game. And with Wayne nicked up and Freeny just coming back from injury, they will pull a bunch more starters.
1 game back with 4 games to go, I like our chances. 1 week at a time, lets see what happens around the rest of the league if we can knock off the bucs this weekend. Finally, a chance at a winning record again.
Yeah, getting swept by the Dolphins was absurd and it will likely cost us big time down the stretch. We'll see though, we still have a chance.
why? We definately want Indy to win that game. (I don't buy the idea that Denver already has a playoff spot locked up just because they are playing some lesser opponents down the stretch . . . any given sunday) Also, Indy has already made it clear that they aren't all that concerned with going undefeated. We would have a chance that they would be resting players whether they are 14-0 or 13-1 coming into their game against us.
Cool link, thanks. Actually, there are a few plausible (though unlikely) scenarios where the Jets make the playoffs with a 9-7 record. And there are a lot of reaonable scenarios where the Jets make it with a 10-6 record. This gives me some hope.
That's it. Every week you win, other teams have to lose and you inch forward in that playoff picture.
The big thing is we need Jax or Pats to lose 2. Thankfully they play each other in week 16, so at least 1 loss is assured (a tie is even better since it's essentially a loss for both of them). Best case scenario is that both have lost 1 by week 1. To get to the point where we control our own destiny by week 16 we have to get: Jets wins over @TB and ATL (8-6) Jax lose 1 (MIA or IND) (8-6) Pats lose 1 (Car or @BUF) (8-6) Ravens lose 1 (DET or CHI) (7-7) Miami lose 1 (@JAX or @TEN) (7-7) At that point, Jax/Pats game becomes a WC or Division game. Either way, we get a playoff spot winning out. Basically, we have to root for: Pats loss, Ravens loss, whoever wins Jax/Miami to lose in week 15 (note Indianapolis might be resting their starters vs. Jax by then). In the very unlikely scenario where JAX ties Miami, Jets can control their own destiny if Pats and Ravens both also lose this week.
Playoff scenario generator http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/playoffscenario?algorithm=currentStandings For those of you who like figuring out who to root for and who needs to win what for the Jets to get in, this might make it easier. Didn't see it posted on the front page, hope it's not a repost.
I ran the generator- Had us facing NE for the Wild Card game- I guess that's it, it is official. We are in!!
The Eric Mangini wins out scenario... http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/playoff...=55144114&14=54501141&15=51001010&16=14505151 Better yet: the Eric Mangini and Dick Jauron win out scenario. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/playoff...=44145114&14=54511141&15=51005415&16=15505150 If you think we're screwed you should look at the Bills chances. It was hard finding a path to the playoffs for them as long as we were in the mix. Nothing says more about the Pats decline than the fact that the Bills are not eliminated at 4-8 with 4 to go. Then there's the "ole-ole-in-come-free-AFC East playoff rush": http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/playoff...=45505114&14=54501551&15=51005415&16=15501150 And yes I have way too much time on my hands today.
