I don't post much but kinda feel the need to pipe up and offer a little support for Braylon. I've seen a lot of posts and heard the calls on the radio, there's a lot of lumping these two guys together... yes they both made bad plays last night that caused problems, but I think there's a big difference right now in how they're both approaching the game. Kerry Rhodes is a fantastic talent, but you gotta seriously question his heart. To be a top tier safety, hell, to be a mediocre Safety you gotta stick your damn melon into the fray. You gotta hit. You gotta hustle. He's love tapping Marshawn, he's getting beat by middling Tight Ends, he was benched for his approach to the game and his priorities not being in order. I'm sorry, but Braylon plays with heart, man. His errors are in concentration and execution. Yes this is a problem too... but the guy works his ass off... he blocks, he moves defenders, he makes a catch and gets YAC, and his YAC is brutal on defenders, he's a punisher, it's damn fun to see what he does when he gets the rock. I just don't like these two guys being lumped together as I think we have a bigger issue with Kerry than we do with Braylon. And I don't want to baby the guy by any means, but if the fans turn on him, it'll get ugly. And for what it's worth, I do hope we sign him.
The difference between Rhodes and Edwards is that Edwards is playing for a contract and Rhodes already has one.
That wimpy should on Lynch near the sideline by Rhodes cost us 10 extra yards and he was smiling about it. It is all about attitude, not talent with this guy.
I totally agree with you. Rhodes is quickly, if not already, becoming a liabilty to the execution of the defense. I am all for giving him more pine time. I do not have a problem with Edwards, yet. I think he starts the game off a little tense and hyped up and that is wha is causing some of the drops. I think he can and will work through it.
That's understandable, I know when I first get to work I'm in a pissy anxious to get the day over mood.
this is a great post. i ignored the rest of the garbage/SOJ's fans pessimism/cynicism that followed in this thread
100% agree with the OP. I don't understand how Eric Smith didn't play as much, esp since the Bills passing game is no threat.
I completely agree with the OP. I'll admit I was not a big fan of the trade for Braylon because he has had a problem with drops at least since his days at Michigan. However, I vowed to give him a fresh start when he came here. I gotta admit, I am VERY impressed with his physicallity both with the ball in his hands and as a blocker and I do believe his mere presence helps the running game As said above, he just needs to focus a little better. I don't know what to say about KR. He seems to have regressed each year since his breakout 2nd year. I thought he was going to be a great one. He's turning into the 00's version of Erik McMillan (aka, one year wonder)
1. Jets are better team with Braylon than without. For instance, TJ's run game improved overnight by the mere presence outside. i.e. TJ would get stuffed for 2 or 3 then break out a long run to make up for it - that was before. Now his production is more consistent, giving Jets offense something more reliable. 2. Kerry needs to sit. I think Eric Smith would excel as the 46 SS role that Planck played.
Absolutely agree with the OP, I was saying that during the game as well. Braylon is tough and physical. He is pretty awesome with the ball in his hands.
I agree heart has something to do with Rhodes but with Rhodes I think it just shows he is not a very smart football player and lacks a ton of leadership skills. In addition, I think Revis has taken a ton of pressure off of Rhodes and he may see that he does not have to be that main guy in the secondary because he knows that someone else has got his back. Getting back to his football intelligence, he just does not know how to be instinctual, perhaps he is a product of Mangini's system where he was specifically designated to an area. But your right about a lack of heart, I never recall hearing about how Revis worked out over the summer to get better, not just to stay in shape. I have no idea with Edwards I think he is lazy he likes jump balls but he dosent like to dive for stuff in the dirt. I dont think its a lack of concentration I just think he displays effort when he feels like it and if three different coaches cant get effort out of you then there is probably no fixing it
Im just a little tired of watching Rhodes running to the play and then stopping rather then creaming the ball carrier and possibly causing a fumble. Deon said it right . " that was a business decision" when he watched the Highlights in the post game and Kerry just runs up to the play and does nothing. Braylon (Oooopsie) Edwards drop way too many passes point blank. Its been his rep for years now and probably always will be a flaw of his. I guess we will have to live with it.
I think Rhodes has all the talent in the world, if only he wasn't so stuck on himself. He needs a serious fire lit under his ass. I was hopeful that riding the pine would solve some of that, but I don't know if that is even going to work now.
When Edwards sees that deep ball that hit him in the face on film hes going to beat himself up over it, no one else will be harder on him than himself. Rhodes on the other hand will see the poor tackles hes made and not be too bothered about it. As Byz has already said , contracts play a big part in how a player plays, but I believe that Edwards sees exciting times ahead and genuinely wants to be a Jet, I don't get the same impression from Rhodes. Question for the draft gurus, what could we get for Rhodes ??? 2nd & 3rd rounders???
i want braylon as a jet from here on out. he is an extremely physical and lengthy wr to give the franchise qb a target the jets have lacked for years. i just don't see how you give him up... where will you get another receiver of his caliber and what will the jets have given up if they let him go as far as draft picks?
I think Rhodes is playing with some kind of undisclosed injury or something. Its rare you see a guy basically run away from the tackle like that. I'm hoping the coaching staff crucifies him in the film meetings for that.
sorry, that deep ball to braylon was a poorly thrown ball. sanchize should have thrown it 85.002 yards, not 85.001 yards. that one's on sanchize. i'm surprised the announcers totally missed it.
