You're right on target with this assesment. If we look at the short and intermediate throws we see balls being thrown at recievers feet. This is where he struggles which is scary because these are the throws you need to be successful. This coaching staff is not helping this kid out and tutoring him properly IMO. He needs to be BENCHED. Not perminently but when he does not protect the ball(the fumble, the not throwing it away) he should be given a stern talking to by daddy(REX) and told to go to his room! He has been told time and time again to protect the fucking ball and he NEVER learns! THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! There MUST BE a consequence to these repeated mistakes! The second mistake this coaching staff made was misjudging the need for a veteran QB to guide him along the way. Think of who could get through to you when you were having troubles growing up, you parents or your older siblings? Manning had Warner, Palmer had Kitna, blah blah blah.... Just think what this season could have been had we had a vet in the bullpin. Maybe we could have beaten the Saints after Sanchise spotted them the 14 and then went all deer in the headlights on us? Maybe... Maybe when he doesn't protect the fucking ball the CS would have more confidence in going to the bullpin if we had Mariano waiting in the wings? Maybe... I know i will be killed for this. I know a lot of you will talk about his confidence being shaken blah blah blah, but this is the big leagues boys and girls. The kid knows this is his job. The organization doesn't invest $50 million in a backup and trade up in the draft to get him.The kid needs to be told "this is your Ferrari but you can't drive it if your gonna be wreckless". A veteran QB is the designated driver. "When you get wreckless with the ball he gets the keys and drives it until you sober up". Now i know i'll here "well he will be afraid to make mistakes and play scared with someone looking over his shoulder". I understand what you're saying but i'm not saying pull him when he makes a mistake. I'm saying pull him when he makes a STUPID mistake(NOT THROWING THE BALL AWAY!)! A mistake that he's been told time and time again NOT TO MAKE! Or when he has that deer in the headlights look you pull him and say "take it easy kid, you'll get em next week", and spare him further embarrassment. Just an opinion from an armchair headcoach. Fire away.
We don't know what Schotty has told him regarding ball protection. None of his QB's have been good at this (or as good as they were under other coaches/systems) and particularly not early in their careers. He may be telling Sanchez that he has to take chances if he wants to get ahead. You know the old "get back up on the horse after he's bucked you off" stuff. We do know that Rex Ryan apparently hasn't been talking to him about ball protection because he as much as said so when he said he'd start doing that now. The coaching so far in Mark Sanchez young career has been spotty at best.
Im not doubting sanchez's potential to progress, but all of sanchez's interceptions yesterday were extremely ill-advised. Particularly the picksix and the one he threw down near our own endzone. On that last one, he was out of the pocket! He could have thrown it away anywhere! What the hell do you call that? Is that bad coaching? Anybody who watches football knows he should and could have just thrown it away. On the picksix he threw the ball into 3 defenders. He could not have picked a smaller window to throw into. You CANT blame everything on the coaching. No doubt that it has something to do with it, but sanchez should be very accountable for his absolute shit performance yesterday. With that being said, I think we might have the quarterback of the future because I see some flashes of brilliance here and there. Well have to see though.
Bottom Line is that Sanchez fumbles too much and throws too many INTs. he doesn't protect the ball. He was not ready to start in the NFL and he has failed to improve fast enough. Somebody needs to light a fire under his butt and wake him up. He is not playing well enough to be smug and act like he doesn't care.
And of course the people who are responsible for making him NFL-ready need to feel the heat too. I'm tired of "geniuses" who no earthly QB can excel for.
Exactly, people forget that this guy only started 16 games in college. This is why I initially questioned taking this guy, i prefer the parcells philosophy of taking 4 year starters and we did the exact opposite. Its no wonder hes not doing well. This is gonna be a long work in progress. Thats what you get for taking this guy. Hopefully it pays off, im not doubting that it will, but its gonna be a painful process.
thank you winston, but i really never went anywhere i been reading just not posting. just really upset about sanchez and happy about ghe yankees, tremendous mood swings, surprised im not on medication. oh and thanks, that is hopefully going to be my next car, i do have a 2004 40th anniversary mustang high horsepower.
glad we still have a few level headed fans defending sanchez on here.... bunch of reasons why this thread is ridiculous : 1.) drew brees didnt even start his first season and his 2nd season only had 17 td's and 16 int's with a 76 QB rating. would we be calling for his head? probably (Oh man, he sat on the bench for a year to do that!!") 2.) peyton manning had more INT's than TD's his first year, with a 71 QB rating. I honestly believe jets fans would be saying he's a bust...because it's deeply embedded in us to find the faults in everything 3.) Eli, carson palmer....garbage first years. 4.) all the other elite quarterbacks in the league now didn't even play their first year, and in some cases two. brady, rivers, rodgers. The ONLY QB's you can make a counterpoint for is Roethlisberger, matt ryan, and joe flacco. And that is the EXCEPTION, certainly not the rule. Roeth had a ridiculous team around him from top to bottom his rookie season. Matt ryan had the benefit of a soft schedule (but still playe dwell) and joe flacco had a superb defense last year. Not to minimize what they did, but with Flacco is how they should have treated sanchez. Flacco was not asked to do a ton of things last year. he had some big yardage plays but thats because they pounded the ball in there and it set up the play action to go deep. Ravens defense was completely solid all year and they didn't have to put a ton of points on the board. the loss of jenkins really changed the complexion of this team, unfortunately...NT is THE most important position in a 3-4 defense and that's why we sucked with D rob at NT. That in turn has caused sanchez to have to do more because we can't stop teams like we did earlier in the season Also...most of the QB's ive mentioned started way more games in college than sanchez. Why we should not be worried? Sanchez is a bright kid. Given enough time and put in the right position, hes going to be a great quarterback. he has the smarts and physical tools to do it. Shit, even in MADDEN when i started playing online instead of friends, it took me 30+ games to learn how to read defenses better and know when to throw the ball away. I would throw a shitload of INT's in the redzone or kill drives despite dominating every other phase of the game (rushing attack, defense, special teams). and that's a fuckin video game lol
um...neither is having marvin harrison and marshall faulk on your team. 2 HOFers still in their prime > jets supporting offensive cast. the colts D was top 2-3 worst in the league, and that was one of the main reasons they sucked so much and peyton threw so many passes. more passes = more TD's and lets face it, sanchez will not be Peyton manning. can he be a GREAT QB? yes...but peyton is also the best to ever do it pretty much. however it sheds some light on how even the most dominant players at the position need time to develop. and that's the main point trying to be made. in other words, everyone needs to STFU and accept the growing pains of a rookie QB. if it's the middle of year 3 and he's still doing these things, then fans are entitled to a very legitimate gripe. For now...understand this is a process. (and this thread is exactly why people think you can't rebuild in NY, regardless of the sport)
From an opposition fan's perspective...Take it for what it's worth....He's just trying too hard. The weight of the world is on his shoulders, and, he's trying to get that throw in that will redeem him. Sanchez will be fine. I don't think he's ever going to be what some of you guys think he will be, but, I don't think he's nearly as bad as some are saying now. I don't know that benching him is going to do any good. He's had the love of the nation, and, then, the bad of it too. Let him play the string out. If he's the answer, let him prove it. I do think the CS could do more to help him with the playcalling though.
Guess who is most responsible for making Sanchez play better???? MARK SANCHEZ is primarily responsible for that. SANCHEZ is personally responsible for his performance and for his preparation. We are growing sick and tired of the excuses and blaming others. I agree that Schotty's playcalling is assinine. But Sanchez is personally responsible for the fumbles and the INTs not Schotty and not anybody else.
I highly doubt Shotty isn't telling him about ball security and telling him to take more chances. If this were the case he should not only be fired but put before a fireing squad!
