I agree about Faulk. Jones, while Not a a great pass catching option, at least brings some threat of a run. Leave him in to chip a blitzer and then switch to a safty valve. At least Give the kid someone close to throw to. The Way things are going of late have been ugly on third down. Lack of blocking and deep routes have a lot to do with it.
Sanchez's last pick reallly fuckin annoyed me, just throw that thing away on SECOND DOWN. Other than that, I put a lot of his poor play on our garbage OC who after calling a DECENT game last week called a horrible game today
That's the problem with lossing Leon, he could be that running back who could chip a blitzer and than take a swing pass for 5 yards or more. Jones simply doesn't or can't do it which makes him a 1 and 2nd down back or a sure third and short. Leon going down severly restricted the 3rd down options for this team.
The team cannot tie itself into a position that says Sanchez cannot be benched no matter what. What does that tell the other players, that the only thing that matters is developing Sanchez? What about the work they put in, only to see Sanchez turn the ball over five times? The team has to evaluate the other players as the season winds down. How can you evaluate them if the team is being placed in impossible situations due to inordinate numbers of turnovers? It's not all about Sanchez.
CLARIFICATION ON SANCHEZ NOT LEARNING. I dont expect sanchez to learn defenses and to learn the playbook and have concrete chemistry in 10 games. BUT WHAT CAN BE DONE IS SANCHEZ BEING ABLE TO FIX WHAT HE CAN FIX NOW WHICH IS SCANNING THE FIELD AND LOOKING OFF THE SAFETIES, T.O said hes just going with the plays that are called, SANCHEZ MUST DO THE SAME, yesterday sanchez had COTCH AND CLOWNEY TOGETHER THEY ALSO HAD 2 DEFENDERS AND THE SAFETY WITH THEM THATS 3 GUYS DEFENDING COMMON SENSE SAYS HIGH RISK THROW, MEAN WHILE ON THE OTHERSIDE BRAYLON WAS 1v1 WITH NO SAFETY HELP COMMON SENSE SAYS LOW RISK THROW, why he didnt throw to braylon he did not scan the field, he kept his eyes on that side of the field which helped the defense react, all defenses have to do is look at sanchez eyes and they know where he is going, problems that can be fixed now, LOOK OFF SAFETIES AND THE D, SCAN THE FIELD PROPERLY. he would be better automatically.
You do realize that it's tough to look off safties if you're really not sure where your wide recievers are going to be. Hard to have chemistry with guys who you haven't played all that much with. I also suspect Cloney may not be the worlds greatest route runner.
Oh right, lets blame the receivers now.....:rofl::rofl: Stop please stop making up excuses for Sanchez. It is what it is. He is not a very good QB right now. No need to blame anybody else. Sanchez has not played well. He needs to play much better for this team to be successful. INT totals. 1 vs Hou, 1 vs TN, 3 vs NO, 5 vs Bills, 2 vs. Jags, 4 vs Pats (G2). 16 Ints in 10 games. Jay Cutler has 18 Ints but he has also thrown over 100 more passes and has 5 more TDs than Sanchez. He has the worst QB rating in the NFL outside of Jamarcus and Derek Anderson. Lots of room for improvement.
schotty may be calling terrible plays, but you cant sit there and tell me in any play thats called in the NFL by a OC good or bad that there isnt one open reciever? in any called play theres an open reciever its the QBs job to scan the field and find the open man. sanchez is not scanning the field.
Correct. I boldened the quote I'm talking about in today's article. I admire Ryan for sticking with his QB, but I also think it's a mistake to announce that benching him is not something you're considering: http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2009/11/ny_jets_on_the_road_to_face_ne.html Playoffs Appear Unlikely As NY Jets Fall To New England Patriots, 31-14 By Dave Hutchinson/The Star Ledger November 22, 2009, 9:40PM FOXBOROUGH, Mass. ? Jets rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez keeps talking about how offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer is trying to convince him to know when to give up on a play and live to fight another down. Four interceptions on Sunday against the New England Patriots would indicate Sanchez has yet to learn that lesson, but bombastic coach Rex Ryan ? after months of bravado and recent emotional pleas ? apparently has. ?This was the first game I felt we got our butt kicked,? Ryan said after the Jets? humbling 31-14 loss to the Patriots on Sunday at Gillette Stadium. ?When you come out of the tunnel, you have to be ticked off. The last two games we let teams dictate to us.? It was the sixth loss in their past seven games for the Jets (4-6), who were the toast of the NFL after a 3-0 start that included a victory agianst the Patriots in Week 2. Perhaps most damning was that unlike a last-second loss to the Jaguars a week earlier or narrow setbacks against the Dolphins (twice) and Bills, the Jets were never truly in the game yesterday. In taking a 24-0 lead before halftime, the Patriots scored on defense (Leigh Bodden?s 53-yard return of a Sanchez interception), through the air (Randy Moss? 4-yard catch) and on the ground (Laurence Maroney?s 2-yard touchdown) before tacking on a field goal that left only the final margin ? certainly not the outcome ? in doubt. New England had 272 yards during the first two quarters while limiting the Jets to 34. In fact, the only highlight of the first half for the visitors was a blocked punt by Eric Smith that Brad Smith scooped up and ran four yards for a touchdown. Patriots slot receiver Wes Welker was the engine that drove their offense with 15 catches for 192 yards, both career highs. ``You can't come out against a team like this and be flat and expect to win,'' linebacker Calvin Pace said. ?We?re going to see what type of team we have and our real motivation. ?It didn?t work when we were talking. It didn?t work when were making predictions. Something has to give. We?re either going to be the team we?re supposed to be or we?re going to let people keep doing us like they?re doing right now.? Sanchez?s four interceptions ? three went to Bodden, who caught as many passes from Sanchez as any of the Jets? receivers ? gave him 16 for the season and led to 17 Pariots points. He was interception-free in the early-season victory against the Patriots, but that feels like a long time ago ? for the rookie quarterback and the Jets. He also lost his third of nine fumbles this season. Still, Ryan said afterward he didn?t consider benching Sanchez, who was a season-worst 8 for 21 for 136 yards. His passer rating was 37.1. ?I don?t think he?s going to get better sitting on the sidelines,? Ryan said. ?He has to learn from it. You can visualize it all you want standing there with the clipboard but unless you get on the field, you?re not going to get better.? Sanchez said he was just off-target on his first two interceptions ? he threw behind wide reciever Jerricho Cotchery and missed Braylon Edwards on his second. On the final two, he said he simply tried to force the ball ? an overthrow to Cotchery and an ill-advised heave to him. He didn't have any interceptions in the first meeting -- a 16-9 Jets' victory. ?You can?t afford to have turnovers like that,? said Sanchez, who has thrown 14 of his interceptions in the Jets' six losses. ?Sometimes you need to say ?uncle? and be smart with the football. I?m learning a lot. (But) it?s hard to say by the stats.? Meanwhile, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady showed once more that he is back in top form. He completed 28 of 41 passes for 310 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. He was sacked twice but was seldom pressured when he dropped back, especially in the first half. The Jets, who hit Brady 23 times in the first metting, turned up the pressure in the second half. It didn?t matter much. The domination was complete, and the Jets were left without an answer yet again. ?You just have to win a game,? right guard Brandon Moore said. ?It?s pretty simple. It feels like we haven?t won in forever.?
thank you winston good point about leon, so im sure you know that the same impact reflects as large on the defense side with the loss of jenkins.
Most really good NFL QB are not scanning the field looking for open recievers. They know where their recivers are going and know who is being doubled or not before the ball is snapped. They end up scanning when they are ready to throw and back out of the throw. You're talking about fractions of seconds that matter and that's where experience matters hugely.
they use sanchez like he's brett favre...I think they need to set plays better. Schotty fucking sucks
I would really like to see the Jets bring in Ken O'Brien to work with the kid. He is another PAC-10 California guy and has coaching experience. Also, the Jets need to pound the rock early and often to take pressure off Sanchez.
the only chemistry problem he should have is with braylon, there should be no problem with cotch, clowney, jones, smith, greene, keller, when it comes to chemistry.
i didn't know 10 games was the "standard" for having legitimate chemistry with your team-mates. It's year 1, folks.....time to calm down and put down your pitch forks. All the Sanchez bashing is ridiculous at this point. I would be more worried about the coaches around him being competent enough to give him the necessary instruction on how to perform at this level.
scanning the field also helps peyton manning on confusing the defenses, peyton knows where reggie will be and knows he is going to throw to reggie but he scans the field anyway because he is making the defense think he doesnt know where to go, understand?
