USC didn't lose anyone really. Pete Carroll was incredibly ticked off at Sanchez declaring early because he knew his team would suffer from the loss of such a good quarterback. Matt Barkley should eventually be the answer for the Trojans, but he definitely isn't that great right now. Poor quarterback is a huge reason why USC finished in the middle of the PAC-10. Mark Sanchez entering the draft early was a ridiculously smart move because Bradford decided to stay in school.
Mark is the face of the NYJs in very much the same way Namath was and it is my belief that he will take the same path in the NFL as Namath did. One and done, maybe.
Kind of an odd day to bring up the comparison, no? And using a rookie TE who, for the most part, has struggled really doesn't help the comparison much.
A) He is not a kid. B) Last Week he was totally ineffectual for most of the game. C) This week he had a disasterous performance. One thing that you have to come to grips with is that he is the starting QB - most of the game is on him. That is how football works. The D played a good game today and the STs scored a TD. Before the onslaught of the 2d half turnovers by Sanchez we were in the game and the D was shutting Brady and company down completely. But as a QB you cannot just keep turning the ball overs and sending your D back out there. QBs get benched for committing 5 turnovers. The only reason that Sanchez isn't getting benched is because he was a No. 1 and because they have decided to let hom go out there and make mistakes and try and learn from them. Hopefully they are right and hopefully Mark becomes the next Johnny Unitas. That could definately happen because he shows the ability to be very good. BUT don't get all crazy with folks who are simply pointing out that he is a poorly performing NFL QB right now. I know that he is a rookie. I get that completely. But I also know that he played poorly. I would like to see Mark grow up and just say - " I was terrible today, I need to get better in order for my team to be successful." If he said that - then I would start to think he might just be another Johnny Unitas.
He played like shit, made some awful decisions, and doesn't appear to have learned anything from his nine previous starts. I still think he's shown flashes of greatness, enough to convince me that he will one day lead this team to the Super Bowl. Rex Ryan, however, hasn't shown me anything. The team hasn't looked prepared since Week 3, and that's all on the coach. Get it together fellas. Show us something to look forward to. Jesus.
I haven't seen his presser from today's game, but this is exactly what he did after both the New Orleans game and the Buffalo game...
What I dont get is were basically out of the playoff picture, it doesnt matter who the qb is. Why not let the guy who needs to develop play. Putting Kellen Clemens in there does nothing. Nor does ainge or O'connell. I dont think anybody can argue that the kid doesnt have talent. We might as well ride the year out and hope he can learn from his mistakes and progress in year 2.
That is the thing that concerns you. His best game was the 2nd game of the season. His best game should have been the 12 or 14th game. He has gotten steadily worse. He is repeating mistakes, throwing into coverage, making desperation heaves. You want to see improvement. What you see is steady regression.
Agreed. The team has come out flat for 3 straight games. Mental mistakes abound. Mr. Mouth and company have to get their act together.
Thats one thing I did not say, he would win a SB as a NYJ, I did say he will win a SB and yes as a starter.
The path I'm refering to is no one will expect it. He will go against a high favorite, and everone will doubt him when he has the audacity to say..."we will win" The "road " will be the same. He may be a NYJ or he may not.
Why is it so hard to accept that Sanchez would have been better served by perhaps another year at USC?
