After the conclusion of about the last 30-35 years its clear to say that this franchise is doomed and we will probably never win a superbowl ever again. How many countless times has this same bullshit happened every year? The Jets always playing lights out for weeks then going on a complete dry spell.
Heres how it is. The Jets will always have a good team and a recognized head coach but we will never win anything. We can make the playoffs and maybe win a game or two but we will never get over that hump no matter who we have. I am convinced that there is a higher power or being keeping this team and other teams from winning championships.
So just sport your green every week during the season, continue to roll as a Jets fan and maybe one day this superpower will grant us access to the promise land.

and when that day happens it will be glorious, im convinced if and when this team finally wins a championship it will be one of the greatest celebrations in this city hands down.

The franchise will begin to win consistently when they establish stability at the QB position. It's as simple as that. You can also do it with a dominating defense but those dominating defenses are very difficult to assemble and keep together for an extended period of time.

This thing can be turned around in 2010. If they can finish the season 4-3 it would be a success. Going 8-8 with all these close losses will be tough, but the future will be bright. If the team flops and finishes 6-10 (which is possible) I am not sure about 2010.

Well one of the flaws in the argument is that the Jets will always have a recognized head coach. In fact the only head coach the Jets have had since 1996 who was an established NFL head coach was Parcells.

The only coaches they have had in their entire history who were established NFL head coaches (meaning had coached successfully elsewhere before) were Weeb Ewbank, Bruce Coslet, Rich Kotite (who clearly was in serious decline when he came over) and Bill Parcells.

Think about it. This franchise has promoted some of the least qualified people possible to run the team. Charlie Winner? Lou Holtz? Pete Carroll? Herm Edwards? Eric Mangini? I'll be nice to Rex Ryan and leave him off the list because he was clearly a great coordinator in Baltimore.

Seriously though, this organization has let some weak sisters run the show. The GMs are no better over the years, in fact probably worse.

My tears would make Rex Ryan seem like Mangini in terms of emotion.

You can make fun of me all you want for this (though being flammed on my first post is harsh) but until Sunday at about 7-7:15 I still have hope in this season.

Good point. Herm Edwards wasn't a big name coach or anything but he did take us to the playoffs three times and he won 2 games. He should of taken us to the AFC championship in 2004 if not for doug brien. Man that makes me sick

Herm wasn't the problem, however he also wasn't the answer either. He is however part of a pattern that Woody has established at this point of hiring assistants without enough experience to actually do the job well.

Herm was a lousy coach tactically, particularly with clock management.

Mangini was (and remains) a terrible judge of talent and has absolutely no ability to deal with people.

Ryan obviously has some flaws also, although I think he's probably sounder than the last two guys to hold the job. We'll see how he holds up after Sunday.

Jets are not doomed. The only franchises that can say that are Raiders and Browns. Could you imagine being a loyal fan to either of those franchises.

The only way we will ever win a Superbowl is when Namath passes away. He sold his soul to the devil for Superbowl III.

Everyone knows there was a deal with the devil. But does Joe have to die? Maybe if Suzie just kissed him already?

I really think if we stopped going through coaches and quartebacks like cheeze nachos, we might get somewhere.

We haven't really gone through coaches like cheese nachos. Coaches have gone through us like cheese nachos. Herm skipped town (by mutual agreement) in 2005. Parcells walked after 2000 after just 4 years on the job. Belichik wanted no part of us. Mangini is the only guy that you can argue that we parted with early, and truth be told he wasn't going anywhere with this team. We'd have been lucky to go 6-10 last year if Favre didn't come to NY for the season.

Quarterbacks have also been very stable for the Jets when injuries allowed. Chad started every season that he was physically able to play from 2003 to 2007. Bringing him back for 2008 was just begging to get back on the injury treadmill that has repeated for him again in 2009 with no Jets anywhere to be seen around it. Vinny started every season from 1999 to 2002 and again it was only injuries and age that stopped that trend.

I would argue that what the Jets are missing at this point is a solid organization behind the team on the field. I don't think there's a plan that is workable in play and so the team zigs and zags from season to season, trying to throw the kitchen sink at the proposition every year and never building a sound team in the process. To my knowledge this approach to football management has only bought a Super Bowl once: in 1999 with the Rams, and that team was done as soon as Kurt Warner got hurt - never to rise since.

Despite all the naysaying, future is bright. This season though has been enough to make grown men cry. (so sorry can't help it)
