Myers in the Daily News put it best - Ryan overestimated the talent on this team, and underestimatied the history of losing in this franchise. He has got to get his act together and start being a leader.
I agree in general, but in fairness it's a thin line. I have to compare what's going on now to when Parcells came to the Jets. Imo, you can criticize BP for this or that, but it is undeniable that he turned the team around from what was really it's lowest of lows. How did he do it? He showed up with instant cred. When he was asked about SOJ and the club's history, he dismissed it, but moved on. He did that from a position of credibility. He also said you are what your record says you are. BP was not one to say "we're better than our record!" I can understand Rex's frustration with the way games have been lost. I can certainly understand him coming to the Jets and not wanting to be bogged down by negativity, which is how an outsider would see SOJ. But in hindsight, it might have been better to SHOW that this was not SOJ before you claim that has been dispelled by your mere arrival, and saying so. That's not how it works. And looking back over the last couple of losses, implying if not coming out and saying that the losses were flukes, don't really reflect the talent on the team, that sort of thing, also looks like a mistake. Rex is a players coach, I think it's fair to say. That's great - hey if I were in that position, I'd probably be more comfortable being like him than a strict discplinarian. But maybe there would have been something to challenging the players, demoting people who were not getting it done, getting the coaches to follow that same mesage, and sure as hell not saying we're better than our record. It's worth considering, imo...
Good lord, does this guy got a giant clitoris or what. Nail in the coffen this week big rex, pats by 4 td's.
Awesome! Let's completely ignore the fact that Damien Woody and Nick Mangold both described it as inspiring and instead concentrate on how it made us feel! You know, since we were the ones he was talking to in the meeting. How it's supposed to motivate us to go out there and perform better.
In defense of the media, which is hard to do in NY but nonetheless, the most compelling stories the Jets are offering them this year are the rookie HC and QB and their foibles. Any of the Jets beat writers could write the story of this season so far from their cold files notes from any of a dozen seasons over the last thirty years. Fast start? Check. Mid-season collapse? Check. Big injuries on the defensive side exposing poor depth? Check. What's new and interesting is a coach with no apparent check on his emotions and a new QB with star potential who is only just beginning to realize what he got himself into by coming to the world's biggest goldfish bowl to swim with piranha. I think the angle they're taking on Sanchez is reprehensible from a moral point of view but it sure does sell papers. Ryan on the other hand is a big boy and should know better.
why are people worried about this? The Jets have a big game on Sunday w/a chance to sweep the Pats and pull within a game of the 1st place in the AFC East. Its a great opportunity for the Jets. Who cares if the Coach got emotional in a speech on Monday. Coaches get emotional sometimes, if it motivates the players its a good thing.
Hey Guys, New here after leaving a different forum that doesn't allow Pats or any team bashing of any kind (ridiculous but I digress). My two cents, after the Mangina years of no emotion at all I feel like this may be a good thing. Look, I understand everyone got their hopes up after 3-0 but I kinda? viewed this year as a mulligan from the start. I can?t understand why everyone is so shocked at the growing pains we?re going through. Lets use this season to prepare for a better season next year and the year after that. The one HUGE complaint I do have is the lack of tackling basics in the open field and is probably the one thing I would change about the team right now. Anyway, thanks fore having me. Mike BTW?the use of ?Mangina? would have got me a warning on the other un-named forum for sure.
^ that's sad that Mangina would get you a warning. On here, you can say "that pussy bitch loser napoleon complex idiot mangina" throw in a couple of fucks too. welcome aboard.
haha..Thanks, Yeah, I actually moderate a forum on an unrelated subject matter and its alot like this place. I can tell there's alot of sick bastards with sick humor around here and that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
I've been in locker rooms before games and have seen guys breaking down out of pure emotion and intensity. granted it was just a meeting, but im sure i was very intense and he was believing in what he was so much he broke down. it is really no big deal at all or uncommon.
You may be right. At the same time, given who coaches yer team, I'm not sure how much authority you really possess on the subject of intensity.
Mangina is totally accepted here.. now. When I would use it while he was still the coach here, many didn't care for it.
:beer: Bet he didn't cry after the Colts loss (in the locker room at least). In his office, maybe.... I almost did.
I can't underatand why NY has a passion for examining every coach we have under a microscope. How many coaches do we want to run out of town before nobody will want to work here?
I can't understand why we keep hiring coaches who are so easy to pick apart? What is it about the Jets job that draws people with such obvious flaws? The Giants go from decent coach to decent coach almost effortlessly, with the odd exception standing out. The Jets on the other hand keep hiring people who no other sane team would hire. Since Weeb Ewbank: Charlie Winner (1 season and out), Lou Holtz (1 season and out), Walt Michaels (promoted from within and actually built a team before flaming out at the end), Joe Walton (promoted from within and went exactly as far as Walt Michaels team could take him), Bruce Coslet (never landed safely despite ample opportunity), Pete Carroll (1 season and out), Rich Kotite (good god), Parcells (3 seasons and gave up, out after the 4th season), Al Groh (Parcells extension, 1 year and out), Herm Edwards (went as far as Parcells team could take him, hired away by sad sack franchise on the way out), Eric Mangini (completely unqualified to be a head coach in the NFL, hired by sad sack franchise on the way out), Rex Ryan (probably unqualified to be an NFL head coach based on the fact that his old team didn't want him and his team is now collapsing on him in his first year, leaving aside the qualities that have caused him to be a media sensation to this date.) That's just a pitiful record of putting together leadership for the Jets. It's why we swing wildly from being just good enough to being lousy. The GM list by the way, if you can believe it, is worse.
I completely agree with this post and I think the scope of it can be enlarged to asking why we have a passion in examining every player and coach under a microscope looking for flaws.
