When I think about what I was hoping for when the Jets drafted this kid and when I remember that, and see how he's running a pro offense, producing points, and doing enough to win most of these games, I'm very optimistic. 16 games as a Division 1 starter, 9 as a Pro...and we're all feeling like we have a chance to defeat the Patriots this week if only our defense and special teams get their act together? Sanchez is doing fine and is going to be great. Beef up his offensive line next year, find some d-linemen to get the D off the field, and we will be a playoff team for years to come and a true contender by 2011.
I soo agree with what you write Sanchez will become a reall good QB for us, I'm sure. It's worth noticing that many times when Sanchez gets pressured it's because Faneca kindly let's the rusher through on Sanchez's blindside (maybe we could by him a ticket to the movie )... I know he is an asset in the run game but he certainly isn't one for Sanchez. I would really like this team to have a LG that doesn't make Sanchez wary on every play (D'brick already does his job well).
Nice positive post in the middle of a mid-season mess! Given a little time I think hes gonna be good for the team. He is going through his "rookie" season ups and downs, but I think hes going to be OK. One thing that does stand out is that he has taken some really good hits and bounces right back. For a 23 year old with 16 games last year and 9 here, he has handled this all really well.
It will all work out; I just think after a 3-0 start all our hopes were taken to a much higher level of expectation than we had originally planned for.
I also have to agree on all points ... He's has had his ups and downs, IMHO he will continue to do that thru next season ... Luckily I think his UPS have outweighed his DOWNS ... With 9 Pro games under his belt, he is doing more than I expected ... ( Hell I think before we drafted him I said that I didn't think he had what it takes to be a pro Qb ... He has already proved me DEAD WRONG )
in 7 games he's either won the game or gave the Jets the lead in the 4th quarter to have a chance to win the game. 7-2 would have everyone blowing this kid. He's doing awesome for a rookie with 25 starts.
I think this point needs to be repeated over and over until "bench Sanchez" birdbrains understand... It doesn't matter if your QB throws 3 interceptions earlier in the game, if your QB bounces back and gives you the lead late in the 4th, and we LOSE, you CAN'T blame the QB at that point (unless he gave the other team the ball at our 1-yard line with 30 seconds to go, which hasn't happened). Are Manning or Brady 1 point leads somehow harder for an opposing team to overcome then a Sanchez 1-point lead? Unless those guys are on defense making the big stops to help their team, then I think we can legitimately point to SEVERAL areas that if they were improved, our record would be too. As a rookie Sanchez has played about as well as you could have REALISTICALLY hoped. Every rookie makes mistakes, every rookie has their "rookie games", why would ours be different. The fact that he's had so FEW "rookie games" thus far should be looked at as a positive
its the 15 year plan.... 1968........1983.........1998.........2013 i am thinking a visit to at least an AFC championship game would come in the not so distant future jil
What? A positive, well-thought, coherent post? This week? What the fuck is wrong with you? Seriously, great post, OP.
Sanchise could be great. But its to early to tell. IMO it feels like other rookie QBs with far less talent around them are performing at higher levels.
I agree. I already like him better than any QB we've had in my lifetime (no Namath in my lifetime) Did anyone see some of the duck interceptions Peyton threw on Sunday? It happens to the best of them, people need to get over it when he throws a pick. The fact is he put us in position to win games in the 4th quarter a lot of times but our overrated D gave it right back.
Right, because Stafford's 5-interception game was full of "high quality" picks? Or his other "rookie" games? And that's WITH Calvin Johnson in the lineup, who I'm sure most everyone would agree is probably several times the receiving talent of anyone we've got (I'm not hating on our guys, he's just THAT good. Full disclosure: I'm a Georgia Tech grad). Plus you should compare apples to apples if you're talking about Freeman, i.e. compare Freeman's first start to Sanchez's, second-to-second, third-to-wait...Freeman's only played twice. Let's see how he pans out over the rest of hte year before we start labeling Sanchez as the worst QB of this draft
who? Stafford? He's had a 5 INT game too. Freeman? Give me a break. The kid looks good on a highlight reel, but that's it. I can look good on a highlight reel. Sanchez gives this team a chance to win.
I'm most impressed by how he has shown an ability to bounce back from mistakes. Even in his worst game, against the Bills, in the first OT drive he hit Braylon Edwards for 22 yards on 2nd and nine from the Jets 16. That was a gutsy throw and helped put the team in position for the winning field goal - before the holding call knocked us back out of range. He's led big drives at the end of the game in several other losses as well. The mistakes I expect because he's so young. His ability to bounce back is what's impressed me.
he is a rookie. he plays like a good rookie, but still a rookie. Throws too many INTs, holds the ball too long, still trying to figure things out. Its okay. Its just part of the process. The downside for the Jets is that the OC has not been doing Sanchez any favors in terms of play calling and the rest of the team is not consistent enough to compensate for the rookie mistakes. The upside is that Sanchez is I think getting close to putting it all together and having a break out game. He is flashing his talent but we haven't seen him take over a game. I think that is coming. Maybe this week.
