Let's start with the factual errors:

The Eagles traded two fifth round picks and $2.5mil for Ellis Hobbs to return kicks/sit on IR. Not exactly big money.

    Logical errors:

I don't recall saying that signing an elite, Top 5 CB in the league for $9mil is a bad idea. I said making a corner the highest paid defensive player in the league is a bad idea. Clements contract was beyond ridiculous and severely limited the ability of the 49ers to spread the money out among the team.

Let me clarify here: I don't think that keeping Nnamdi Asomugha, the best corner in the NFL, on a defense. The problem here is keeping him on a defense for $14.25mil/year.

Brett Favre's scheduled salary for this year is $13.5mil. Peyton Manning last year made $11.5mil. Tom Brady's total salary was $8mil. Nnamdi Asomugha this year will make $14.25mil. Next year, he will make $14.25mil. If the Raiders decide to keep him for another year, it will cost them $20mil. How do you not see the problem with that? Favre, Manning, and Brady touch the ball on every that they are on the field for. Asomugha shuts down one wide receiver for every snap he is on the field, maybe two if the opposing OC happens to be dumber than the retard from The Goonies. That's 30-40 touches every game for a QB vs. maybe 3 chances to touch the ball - not carry or possess, just touch - per game. How the fuck do you justify paying a CB that much money? Asomugha and his agent raped the Raiders coffers for a guaranteed two years. The idea of keeping the best corner in the league on your team? Great! Paying that much for it? Incompetence beyond belief.

Wow, one example that supports your point! Will there be more? (spoiler: no)

    Yes, yes I do.

    Zing! Oh, you sassy bitch!

..and what was the sentence that started this point?:
Everyone else is shooting anti-freeze into their cocks, might as well!

Ok, so you're talking about the 2005 Ravens while I was talking about the 2008 Ravens. How exactly do you expect to win an argument with no sequiturs? Just to entertain you, though:
    2005 Ravens: McAllister - $8.5mil; Rolle - $12 mil; $20.5mil to 2 players; 5th overall defense; 8-8 record; Missed the playoffs.
2008 Ravens: McAllister - $8mil(lost his starting job to Fabian Washington); Rolle - $4.2mil; Washington - $1mil; $13.2mil; 2nd overall defense; 11-5 record; Lost in AFC Championship

    WTF??? Error:
He's playing for $3mil in 2009. If the Jets resign him, he'll be playing for $6mil in 2010 if the Jets decide to pay him, which is a club option that they can decline.
    /searches dictionary.com
hm...his salary is increased from 2009 to 2010 based on his employer's analysis of his value to the team. Nice use of double-speak. Orwell would have puked.

    Conclusion

I'm not rejecting the idea of having a quality secondary, I'm rejecting the idea of dumping too much money into two players to get a quality secondary. We're already going to have to resign Revis who is going to command an elite contract (smart money would be $7-9.5mil, plus incentives). Lowery started against the Saints (the most prolific passing team the Jets have played this season) and did a fine job because the Jets had a healthy defense that could rush the passer. He's also a lot cheaper than Sheppard's club option.

What I am specifically contesting is your idea that bringing back a corner who has missed five of the last nine games due to injuries for a contract that would pay him an additional $2-3mil. You either have no faith in the what is currently on the roster, no faith in Tannenbaum to negotiate a deal that would be on par with Sheppard's play has earned him this year, no idea of how the NFL Draft works or what it is for, or you have completely forgotten about Revis, Mangold, Brick, Washington, and Harris all needing new deals.

If money isn't a factor, you keep him for depth but make him compete with a worthy addition (be it FA or draft). But you certainly don't count on him because it's obvious his healthy isn't reliable. Now, if money is an issue (Idk, I've seen too many conflicting comments on this matter), then you let him test FA and see if he's worth re-signing, depending on what he's offered.

Factual error in the "factual errors" section. The Eages TRADED two FIFTH round picks. I guess that's what happens at 1:42 AM.
