I'm not really sure what to think right now. Sure Sanchez has shown flashes, but he's just been so inconsistent. I hope this inconsistency is just him being a really young inexperienced rookie and not something that will plague him for the rest of his career. There are plenty of other QBs who have shown flashes and have just never really gotten it together to become great or even decent (Kellen Clemens???). Rex Ryan seems to have the same problem as Sanchez, just massively inconsistent. Some weeks the defense and the game plan is just amazing and others it's totally shit. One thing I love about him though is that it finally seems like some massive adjustments are happening during half time, which we definitely lacked under Mangini. Obviously I think we'll know what these guys will ultimately be by next year when they both have a year under their belts, but for now I think it's impossible to predict where they'll end up. I am glad we have both right now though because our previous QB and coach were not taking us to a super bowl.
WTF has happened to you? You have went from one of the best posters to one of the worst overnight. Seriously, what more do you expect from a rookie QB, it is like you have never watched football before and don't understand how hard it is to play QB as a rookie in this league. Sanchez is playing pretty well for a rookie, he has played welll enough to win in 7 of the 9 games we have played this year. That is damn good for a rookie Qb. He has his ups and downs during games but yesterday he bounced back from a rough start to lead the team back from 11 down in the 2nd half to take the lead in the 4th QTr. That is an impressive job by a rookie QB. We lost yesterday because the D didn't come back from their vacation until the second half and then folded when it mattered most. Really your posts are coming off as completely ignorant, lately.
Sanchez just turned 23 this month. I'm willing to give him two years at this pace minimum before I even consider looking at a replacement, assuming he doesn't completely regress. He's shown plenty of flashes. I don't know how you can't see it. He makes plays, they just come in spurts, like most rookie quarterbacks. Most rookie QBs struggle and make some plays. Usually, they get better from there, and the great ones obviously do. Who knows how good Sanchez will be, and he's certainly had some bad games, but he's had some good games, too. He had success when they didn't have film on him, and now he's adjusting. He's making strides. Sure, I wish he were Matt Ryan, but I'm fine with his progress. Ryan, on the other hand, I still like a lot, but he's got a lot more growing to do. He needs to learn from his mistakes just like Sanchez. Assuming we don't completely collapse and go 4-12, he's going to come back, and both of them will need to show they can or should be the long-term answer.
i learned two things yesterday too. weve never missed Kris Jenkins more than now weve never missed Kris Jenkins more than now
I dont get it. The title of the thread is that the OP is SURE of two things. Sure that Rex Ryan and Marc Sanchez are gonna be great??? Thats just retarded. They MIGHT be good. They MIGHT be great. They MIGHT be two ass clowns. Theres just no way to be so sure of their success. Its just speculation and fluff.
I am sure that Sundays are not that much fun. I am sure that I am cursed never to see my team in a SB.
This is a common thread for Jets fans over the years. Believe me I have spent a fair amount of time measuring what my Sundays in the fall would be worth if I gave up football against the enjoyment (or lack thereof) that the Jets provide. I'm not ashamed to admit that I basically gave up on the Jets for the 1996 season and napped on the couch against the backdrop of the games that year. It was only having Parcells come in and reignite the franchise that kept me from ditching them at that point and just not following sports at all. Some times I regret that Leon Hess finally made an effective decision, because I've lost my fall Sundays for a dozen years since then with not a lot to show for it.
Just to comment on this part, Henne has looked ::comparable:: to Sanchez, and the only reason Freeman looks "good" is the same reason that Sanchez looked so good at the beginning, there just isn't any NFL tape on him yet. You see this every year with new QBs, or unknown backup QBs thrown into the spotlight, it takes some time for teams to prepare of a QBs tendencies, it's only AFTER the initial rough road that you can tell if a QB is great. He's got to see what others are seeing and change those things, and I think Sanchez is trying to do that, but in the heat of battle people tend to return to form, it just takes time to develop new, good habits. And just to add to this, if no one had heard of "Jay Cutler" before this year, would ANYONE here think that that kid is any better than what we've got? And he's been in the league how many years now? And how about last year's wonderkid, Matt Ryan? I live in Atlanta so our local airwaves are saturated with Falcons talk and I can tell you that the consensus is that this kid is reverting right now, or having a sophomore slump. You just can't expect Sanchez to learn how to be a veteran QB through a few games in his first year. Hell, the examples I gave above show that even some veterans need to still learn how to be veteran QBs...
The jury is still out on Sanchez. The guy is way too inconsistent at this point, but he still has alot of time to get better. It seems he starts off every game with a bunch of errant throws. He totally missed TJ on a screen pass for an easy TD, had a few other very poor throws at receivers feet. The very first INT was badly underthrown as well. I think accuracy needs the most work at this point.
no they haven't and how are you arriving at such a conclusion? have you actually sat and watched every play those two have had like you have for sanchez? yesterday at half time while everyone else was running into the tunnel schotty and sanchez were still sitting on the bench talking. maybe they were looking at pictures maybe they were talking about something else but i can only assume they were discussing something football related. if you have season tickets maybe you should take a look over at the sidelines a bit more to see what exactly sanchez is doing with his time and if you watch on t.v. you have to realize that the camera's are only showing you a few shots of the sidelines a game so you have no idea what is actually happening on the sidelines most of the time.
I said the same thing about Clemens and Mangina in their first year together... Sorry, but this is a very inconsistant team. Neither Ryan or Sanchez can turn this team around themselves. This team needs to continue to build...I say we are at least 2-3 years out...and that's if NE starts playing like shit.
mangini's first year chad started all 16 games and clemens never got much of a look for mangini so i don't see how you could have been seeing the same potential in those two as some are seeing in rex and sanchez.
Next year is the year to start judging rex and sanchez harder, rookies get a free pass for the most part. If we do this poorly next year then we have to do something.
I have to agree with the OP on this one. I see a lot of reasons to be optimistic for a bright future with Rex and Sanchez. Frankly, it seems to me that the Jets are a team with enormous talent, but no idea "how to win." I think Braylon Edwards's comments came pretty close to the concept I'm getting at here, when he said that the team just expects to show up and win. It also seems to me that every week we're left wondering "who is going to lose the game for us this week." Teams that know "how to win" wonder "who's going to WIN the game for us this week." It's that certain intangible thing that successful teams have, where it seems like they not only "know how to win," but they don't know "how to lose." You can see it in the Colts and Pats, and even the Giants of the past few years. Even the Saints are developing this kind of identity. That's where the Jets need to go. They need to walk-the-walk and talk-the-talk.
I didn't say I'm sure they will be great, I said that I am glad that we have them even after all of the adversity so far and all of the negativity other people are putting out there.
Head coach is not in the top 2 for team performance. There are a number on on-field positions that are more important. Jim Caldwell is not the second most important factor in the Colts' success, for example.
That is because they have an on field coach in Peyton...with Peyton Manning on your team I don't care who you have you have a chance to win.
Sounds like he stopped taking his meds....I can't believe how stupid most of his posts have been lately. He also seems to be pretty hot headed and irrational, like most of the fuckwads we've been trying to get to stop posting on gamedays. Something isn't adding up. Account hijack maybe?
Although Henne has a higher rating and completion percentage, Sanchez has more yards. Henne has no WRs that can catch the ball. One thing I really like about Henne is his poise, something Sanchez needs work on. He threw a crippling interception against the Bucs and came right back for the game winning drive. I have to give the edge to Henne.
All I ask for is 1 Super Bowl victory. After that we can loose every game for the next 10 years for all I care. One day, one day...
