Big-talking Jets lose their swagger in another late loss Bill Eichenberger - Nov. 15, 2009 > http://www.sportingnews.com/nfl/art...ing-jets-lose-their-swagger-another-late-loss
This defense has lost so much confidence that even Hollywood Rhodes isn't twittering as much. And Bart Scott better not open his mouth for the rest of the season. These guys were acting like defending champions when they haven't won shit.
kelly wants to get a hotel room with me, i can see it in her eyes. EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. ? Linebacker Bart Scott's steely silence in the postgame locker room said it all for the New York Jets after Sunday's 24-22 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. David Harris shows his frustration after the Jets' defense lets another one slip away. David Harris shows his frustration after the Jets' defense lets another one slip away. Never at a loss for words, Scott spoke sparingly and barely above a whisper after watching the Jaguars drive 80 yards in 12 plays to set up Josh Scobee's winning 21-yard field goal on the game's final play. Scott, who followed coach Rex Ryan from Baltimore, was full of swagger in the preseason and during the team's 3-0 start to the regular season. But after Sunday's loss?the Jets' fifth in their last six games?Scott was forced to admit the obvious. "Maybe we are not one of the best defenses in the league," Scott said through clenched teeth. What has gone wrong with a unit believed to be one of the league's best? Mental mistakes "There have just been a lot of huge errors on our part," Jets defensive end Shaun Ellis said. "We are not getting blown off the ball. Guys are not beating us physically. We just have to play smarter." The biggest error Sunday came on a 33-yard completion from David Garrard to tight end Marcedes Lewis on the Jaguars' final drive. Lewis was a step behind safety Kerry Rhodes when he made the catch. Rhodes and Ryan both said Rhodes was supposed to have deep help on the play. "It's on me," Jets safety Jim Leonhard said. "I was trying to get the coverage changed, but it was too late." Going forward, those sorts of breakdowns could be lethal to any flickering playoff hopes for the Jets (4-5). "Teams can come from our situation and do great things," Jets linebacker Calvin Pace said. "But if you are not sound defensively as far as your assignments, I don't care who you put on the field. People are going to dink and dunk you, pick you apart." Failure to finish
its a shame it had to take losing 5 of 6 to get this halftard to shut up but i am happy he did and hope that he will continue to play hard and be quiet. the defense is very good and a little humility could go a long way. just as long as this makes them play harder instead of quitting which is what alot of guys who talk to much tend to do.
