The kid touched on all key elements of the game he was involved in, and stayed after and answered TEN questions that the media still had. Its not like he made a statement and stormed off the stage. People are mad because he did not give them a chance to badger him with the same stupid, redundant questions.
He could/should have left the "i'll take some questions although i can't see that there's anything else you could ask" part out. This made him sound too cocky after a devastating loss. Apart from that, I do not have a problem with the speech. We all know that -especially following a defeat- you are in a no-win situation with the NY media.
Agreed, you can't win a war with the media. Don't do that Mark, just take your hits, answer the questions and don't worry about it. Please, not prepared statements, that's lame
F the media. He wanted to make sure he said exactly what he wanted to say, and not be misquoted by those assclowns. I saw the press conference live, and when SNY started ripping him I turned them off. He did answer questions. Not a single decent one was asked, but he did answer them. The shitty media had their job done for them, and couldn't react to it. Amazing, but it's the same thing they'll rip the Jets for.
Actually, I don't give a shit what he said. It's what he did on the field that bothers me. He needs to start playing better. I am still hopeful to avoid losing season and at least have 8-8 when it is all said and done.
wow, I'm surprised so many people really hate his presser...I just don't see what was wrong with it. So he read a statement to _start off_, so what?? I would understand the hate if he read that and then said "i;m out" and just left, but he sat there and answered questions afterwards. He really can do nothing right to some folks, it's amazing. I guess he should be an adult to NY media like Randy Johnson was right?
i just got to read what he said and if anyone has a problem with him taking time to write down his thoughts so that he wouldn't say anything the media could take and twist around i don't know what to tell you. he takes blame for the things he should take the blame for. i dont see him crying about how schotty shouldn't have made him throw that deep pass to start the game like half the people here are. instead he is saying the HE needs to step his game up and make that play. he gave tons of credit to the rest of the team too i just really don't see what the problem is.
Id rather have him do this and keep his spirits up then have the media eat him alive. Just like he wont go on sites like this, so he doesnt have to see all the shitty things people say about him.
Like it or not, he is the face of the franchise right now and part of the job is standing in front of the New york media and answering their questions, redundant or not. A 23 year-old rookie should not be dictating what the media wants answered. IMO bad move by Sanchez. And I'm not a fan of the media hype machine.
Well after reading most these posts I see we must have some media people here since so many are mad about this. All he did was read a statement and then answer questions that were asked. I think at his next presser he should just say "No comment" next question. Whatever you do Mark don't give in to these assholes because you did nothing wrong by being prepared. Also another lost by the D, so if your counting that's 2 on Sanchez (NO & Buffalo), 2 on the D (Miami & Jax) and 1 on special teams (Miami).
So it's okay for the media to create whatever story they want to from cut up quotes that they present out of context? Sorry, but the media has been force-feeding the public for a long time now. It must really suck for them to have to swallow some of that bitter medicine themselves.
They can write what they want but it is up to the reader to determine if it is valid or not. The point is Sanchez should stand up and answer the questions about what he did on the field, not dictate what those questions are. In doing what he did, he created his own story, hence this thread and all the commotion regarding his actions.
It was not the right way to handle the situation...but he is a rookie and learning to be "media savy" is something he will learn in time. I just think he is having a tough time with all this losing after NEVER facing it at anytime in his life. He will mature and learn how to act like a pro. Not only on the field, but at the podium.
You know, some people write because they like writing. Because it's what they want to do. Some of these people like or love sports too and enjoy writing about it. It's not always because they dream of actually being the players. And Pennington most definitely did not mean that it was a privilege for the press to interview him, or other players. He meant that having a job as an NFL reporter was a privilege, just like being a player is. Having said that, I totally agree that the press needs to stop getting itself in a stew everytime something happens a little differently. But Sanchez needs to learn that you shouldn't argue with people who buy ink by the barrel.
He didn't dictate anything. He wrote out what he figured would be the questions he'd be asked, and had good answers for them. When he was done, he made an off-hand remark that basically said he addressed everything they could possibly ask him, but go ahead and ask if you have any. Focusing on the press conference at all is silly. The product on the field deserves the bad press. You don't win or lose games at a podium, otherwise Rex would have won the Super Bowl in September, and been coaching the Browns now.
the only issue i have with sanchez is him coming off reads too quick and not getting rid of the ball when he has all day to throw with no plans on throwing it. then again i attribute this to him being a rookie, earlier on he was being lauded for his ability to keep his eyes down field and keep the play alive. which is the pros and cons of that debate. I have the utmost faith in Sanchez once he gets more experience. the guy was prolly furious and let down by the loss so he basically summed up the game gave his teammates credit and deflected the attention from the defense. if we won yesterday wed all be extatic now most posters consider having no reason to watch football. thats your problem, im not giving up. im not expecting playoffs anymore obviously, but at the same time....most importantly. THIS TEAM IS NOW PLAYING FOR PRIDE. FUCK EVERYTHING ELSE ITS TIME TO BUILD SOME SUCCESS AND GET OUR COACHING STAFF AND ROSTER PLAYING TO THE LEVEL THEY SHOULD BE PLAYING. I HATE LOSING AS MUCH AS THE NEXT GUY BUT YESTERDAYS OVER AND ITS NOW ABOUT BEATING THE PATS AND GETTING SOME PRIDE BACK.
