Yeah, but Felix is definitely a #1 pitcher right now. And they are the same age. Look, you know how much I love Hughes. And Joba, for that matter. I don't particularly want to trade either of them, never mind Cano and Montero. But if Hernandez really is available, I think you do what it takes to get it done. Like ToonWalker said, they're fortunate that they don't have to trade for anyone. But Felix is more valuable than Halladay by a significant amount, if only because of his age.
I hear what you're saying, but that's just too much to surrender for my tastes. Even if they guy is the next Cy Young, he's still one guy, as opposed to the four potential All-Stars of Hughes, Joba, Cano, and Montero. I'm not saying I'd throw a fit if the Yankees got it done, but I wouldn't exactly be jumping for joy either. I'm not sure he's actually on the block. I believe someone originally posed it as a "what-if" scenario. I doubt they wouldn't be intrigued if Cashman offered up those 4 (who wouldn't) but I don't know that they're actively shopping him.
I read a report saying Boras is looking for Teixeira money for Holliday... I like Holiday but that's too much IMO. He would be a beast in Yankee stadium tho
Okay. Though I was just responding to this part of what you said: that you'd part with Joba and Montero easily enough, but made it sound like Hughes was the fulcrum of the deal because he could be a "long-term solution." Well, Felix is a long-term solution, too. That was my only point. Is it a lot to give up? Hell, yes. That's the only way you can get guys that good. They're not actively shopping him.
Oh absolutely. I'm just not much in favor of giving up 4 real long-term solutions (even if Joba is only a reliever, he's instantly Mo's successor, and Montero is at worst some wonderful trade-deadline bait.) Not to only get one back in return, no matter how good that player is. -------------------- And there's no chance Wang doesn't get some kind of offer. It'll be low-balled, but he'll get some sort of offer. For the Yankees, it's only money, and Wang can't let you down any more than he already has. Hell, if they can pay Kei Igawa to stand there with his buck teeth looking clueless, they can pay Wang to take a chance at coming back to be a back-of-the-rotation guy.
The Yankees plan to tender a contract to reliever Brian Bruney, tweets Joel Sherman of the New York Post. The estimated salary for the arbitration-eligible righty is around $1.5MM. Bruney made our list of non-tender candidates in October, on account of his sore elbow and high walk rate. He made $1.25MM this year, so Sherman believes Bruney's 39-inning season will limit his raise to 20%.
According to Sherman, Curtis Granderson and Edwin Jackson are being made available by the Tigers. I'm not so sure on Jackson, but i would definitely part with ajax in a granderson deal.
Yankees GM Brian Cashman told Bob Nightengale of USA Today he didn't sit down with a single agent at the annual GM meetings.
Detroit's 100% right to try and sell high on Jackson, he's really not as good as the first half of his '09 campaign. Granderson, however, is a playmaker. If he's actually available the Yankees would be remiss not to pick up the phone.
if i was detroit i would take the best available offer. jackson pitched out of his skull this year and i seriously doubt he will ever again match that level of production.
I don't get the perception that either of these guys are available. Those two players are both essential to their franchises and Ramirez is signed to a team friendly deal. The Marlins have no reason to move him for awhile unless it is for a jaw dropping offer that would immediately make them better. Mauer is more of a possibility since his contracts expiring after 2010 but the Twins will be under real pressure to bring him back and he is a local and hasn't expressed much of a desire to test the waters. If he ends up on the Yankees I'm going to cry.
The news last tonight had a segment on the filming of a movie with Derek Jeter, I think with a bit role as a homeless guy. The movie is about Sebastian Telfair, the legendary high school basketball player. I believe Will Farrell and Jay-Z are also in it . I don't think Jeter's part is large at all and don't know when it will be out, but the little glimpse they showed of Jeter on Channel 2 News was funny - long wispy hair sticking out underneath a baseball cap. I think the movie is titled Through The Fire. hahah Sebastian Telfair
18 years and his fastball is sitting at 94-95 with a sick change. This guy is going to be really, really good. I can't wait.
