yeah it's so easy to blame the guy that is so unpopular and is not with the team anymore.. Gimme a break
I love this quote from Tannenbaum (who, btw, is still doing an outstanding job). "Asked if Mangini was the driving force behind the Gholston choice, GM Mike Tannenbaum said, "On all draft decisions, I have the final say. But, organizationally, we felt good about Vernon. Although his rate of improvement isn't where we want it to be, we're still happy he's here and we feel good about his future."" Whatever happens VG's future is great, and we can not feel any remorse for our next business move in this predicament; we gave the clown $21 million. I could use a future like this.
Jeeezz.. some of you are just obsessed to the point of mental issues over Mangini. Seriously. The guy wasn't THAT bad for starters. And so what if he pushed for a player that may end up on the bust heap. It freaking happens. Not every draft pick pans out. Like this shit has never occurred to another head coach in the league, much less MOST of them. Some of you must sit around all day just googling Mangini looking for new dirt to play in... you might want to get that obsession checked out by a professional.
I certainly can not forget that when Mangini arrived here, he inherited a team that was in shambles. At least when Mangini left, the team was clearly in much, much better shape than when he found it. Rex was given a solid nucleus to build from.
bit of a difference between trying to lobby for your guy who in the end is a bad pick, and making a power play, forcing this guy on the franchise, and then having him turn out to be one of the biggest busts of all time..... Thats not even close to comparable!
Biggest busts of all time? Ok, drama queen. He had a gut feeling on the guy, and he was wrong. Shit happens. You act like he was purposely out to sabotage the Jets or something. He wanted us to win as much as well... we want us to win. Cause in the end its his job if he doesn't. Gholston was one poor draft pick among quite a few others that worked out great so far. No reason to kick the poor bastard in the nuts everyday over it.
I had heard that Mangina was a driving force for that pick... However, tanny is the GM and has final say (He buys the groceries). This coming out now smells of a GM of a 4-4 team covering his ass in case the season doesn't go his way.
...and you think he'd know the Pats love getting disinformationout there. He was with the Pats when they got the rumors started (with the help of the Bears) that they were going to trade up for Robertson or Sullivan. Both the Jets and the Saints scrambled to trade up for those guys, and the Pats sat back and took the guy they wanted all along, Ty Warren. Mangina let his personal bullshit get in the way of the scouts sound judgement. Tanny does need to take some blame for allowing it to happen.
I think the most confusing aspect of all this is how fast Mangini gave up on Gholston. If this is your guy wouldn't you at least have some faith. I don't necessarily put the Gholston pick on Tannenbaum as much as other people. Its tough to go against your coach since he is the one who is going to make the most impact on the player. I think what this article really shows is how good the jets scouting department is. While Mckelvin isn't great right now, he has shown some good things, and certainly has done a lot more about gholston.
Probably because Tannenbaum writes the articles himself too, so he thought this would be a good time to rehash this topic and publish it..to cover his ass.
name 30 guys who are considered bigger busts than Gholston? Also if you payed attention to the combine/draft this past spring, you would know they were already trying to avoid drafting the next Gholston. Gholston is the biggest bust of all linebackers selected in the last decade, and he is certainly near the top overall right up there with the likes of Alex Smith.
Because Cimini has nothing better to write about. Besides, it's the same way with every coach that leaves. People like to badmouth them at every turn. Just look at how bad Herm still gets criticized.
With that contract of his Gholston is untradeable. I've hated Mangini basically since day 1, but I am going to stick up for him on this one (sort of.) Mangini may have been pushing Gholston but he clearly wasn't the only one doing so; if Tannenbaum and all the scouts disagreed then they would've gone in another direction, Mangini never had unilateral decision making power with the Jets. This story popping up in the middle of the season, during a terrible stretch for the Jets, seems like a possible plant by Tannenbaum. Take people's minds off the team's struggles by reminding them how much Mangini sucked.
Oh, puh-leeeaze.... I'll give you one LB, biggest bust of all time.. Brian Bosworth. At least we are getting playing time out of Gladys. And here is a list of busts all bigger than him as well. Already been done. Now quit crying about Gholston like he stole your milk money.
i dont blame anyone for drafting vernon have you seen the guy. scary ass mofo but thats only on the outside.
