I thought his contract was up now. That's my mistake. Obviously that changes things. There's no question I'd keep him here into his forties though. He's got a shot at Rose. Then what would Kansas City and Pittsburgh have to cry about? And where would they get their luxury tax revenue from? Seriously. Why should teams in massive markets not get to spend money? Yankee Stadium and Fenway are sold out practically every game. Beyond that, why doesn't Pittsburgh appear in the playoffs? Don't tell me it's because the Yankees spend too much money and they can't compete. First off, the Yankees are in a different league, but beyond that, wtf are they doing with their high draft picks year-after-year-after-year? They keep trading away what little talent they have. And wtf do they do with all those prospects they keep trading their MLB talent for? Poor management is why "small market" teams don't compete. The Marlins and Rays have proven that you can grow more than enough talent to compete with the Yankees' payroll.
I'd be bitter if I were a Blue Jays fan too. Well, at least you have good beer and strip clubs that serve it along with full nudity, so you have one up on us there.
That's a payroll problem. They can't afford to keep them, so they keep trading them away. Some of the poorer teams are mismanaged and don't draft the right players, but those high draft picks do yield a lot of elite talent. Almost all that talent eventually ends up with the big market teams.* Roy Halladay is a notable exception. Money affects everything. For example, Derek Jeter would have been drafted higher, but for the fact that he was known to be seeking a lot of money, so he fell to 6th, where the Yankees got him. Alfonso Soriano and a bunch of other young foreign players were bought because MLB refuses to implement a global draft. *- One could make quite a list. CC Sabathia, AJ Burnett, Jason Giambi, Josh Beckett, Jason Bay, Johan Santana, Carlos Beltran, Victor Martinez, Cliff Lee, and a bunch of other elite players over the past decade.
I heard a rumor the bombers might go after John Lackey. I Hope not cause i cant stand the guy. If we decide to let Matsui or Damon go i would be rooting for us to get Holliday.
That guy is all heart and full of motivation. I want him on the Yankees more then anyone out there in free agency. But I think he either goes to Texas or stays with Angels
If teams were to have a draft to start a franchise. What would be the top 10 picks in a MLB draft starting 2010? 1) Joe Mauer 2) Felix Hernandez 3) Hanley Ramirez 4) Chase Utley 5) Tim Lincecum 6) Albert Pujols 7) Jon Lester 8) Zach Grienke 9) Justin Morneau 10) Alex Rodriguez
It's a cool question for argument purposes so ok I'll play along. Lester's vastly overrated on this list. Over Grienke, Morneau and A-Rod? Lester? Over Longoria? I'm not trying to piss on him because he's a Red Sock and he had a great year this year. Really he's obviously entered into the conversation of best young pitcher in the game but 7th overall IMO is a little high.
You build organizations around young proven commodities. He is that. And he is a pitcher to boot with good post season experience. Nothing wrong with the placement.
Utley can't be over Pujols, and A-Rod turns 35 next season. Greinke should be ahead of Lester and Utley.
1.Mauer 2.Pujols 3.HanRam 4.Longoria 5.Lincecum 6.Felix Hernandez 7.Grienke 8.Prince Fielder 9.Ryan Braun 10.Justin Upton
Top 7? In all of baseball? He's a really really good young pitcher, but Mauer, Pujols, Longo, Utley, Han Ram, King Felix, Greinke are just obvious guys that you put above Lester. I think I could make a case that I'd rather have Justin Upton or even Brian McCann over Lester.
I put Lester above Felix and Grienke based on his post season experience alone. He is a proven commodity and in the post season, experience is everything.
