I think the people complaining that we're bad are in the minority, but they're certainly a vocal, annoying minority. What I'd like to see is a few of those pople point out the positions or areas in which we need improvement to no longer be bad. No team is perfect, and we can't be either, but we apparently need a lot of improvement in order to be competitive. I'd like to see better performance at left guard and more dynamic play from the safeties. That said, I can live with what I've seen aside from Kerry not playing up to his self-promotion. So what do all the hopeless same old fans want to see in order to feel good about where the team is at? Have at it, just please show more knowledge than that of a casual observer.
We are not bad. We are the victims of some bad breaks, a bit of rookie coach quandry, and a rookie QB. I actually think the focus of our 2 decent picks next year should be NT and DE. Jenk maybe back, but I doubt he'll be the same. We can still use a bit more of a dominating rushing DE. If we can trade Gholston for a 4th round pick we should; he is not going to pan out. Because it is an uncapped year, we might be presently surprized at what comes our way via FA market.
OG- need viable starter for LG next year. Hunter? Maybe. FB- Richardson can't go on signing one-year deals forever. He's old and at some point he'll have had enough. TE- Having a better #2 behind Keller, someone who can block AND avoid stupid penalties that end drives. WR- As we've seen, depth is so very important. DE- Ellis is nearing the end, as is Douglas. Are DeVito and Ripoopy the answer? NT- Pouha isn't a true NT but is holding his own. Jenkins' body isn't going to stand the test of time. For the time being, I'm comfortable with where we are at CB, S, LB, QB, RB, OT/C
Get tight. This team has won 7 Games at the halfpoint. They have given away 3. Sanchez gave away two all by himself, though we should have beat Buffalo anyway, thanks Ben! Miami. A little tighter play, and this will be more than a good a team.
Speaking of casual observations. Don't start a thread asking for more than a casual observation with your own casual, lazy observation.
that's all it comes down to. 3 phases coming together for 60 minutes. That's how they won those 4 games. One phase having a horrible game is why they lost the other 4.
Another thread bashing the SOJ fans... I don't consider myself a darksider, but I reserve the right to be pissed off when my team absolutely gives away all four games it has lost this year. The Jets should be 7-1 or 6-2, but they are 4-4. Being angry about that is not a crime. As to where this team can improve - I think they have already improved greatly over the last couple of games. They have discovered an identity (the one we all thought they would have from the start) as a run-first team that likes to dominate the opposition. The defense also played brilliantly last week. I think we could do with more explosion in terms of the return game and creating turnovers.
I don't think it's that lazy and casual. That comment was meant for the people Steve Young was talking to when Millen started commenting on O-lines before the Jets/Fins Monday night game. Do you know how many so-called football fans can only name a team's starting QB and RB and only know the WRs and defensive players if they made the Pro Bowl like 5 times?
Winston, I think he's right about Rhodes. I go back and watch most of the games over, in stop and slo mo...and Rhodes has been weak. Revis took the heat for the Ginn play in Miami, but the Single Deep Safety on that play should have been in a position to de-cleat him at the point of the catch. We heard alot of talk about how Rex's defense would free up Rhodes to play up to his potential. It's just not happening. (granted it's only the halfway point...but...)
I think game management by the coaching staff has a lot to do with the success of the team, it all starts from the top down, teams that are successful for a long period of time have a philosophy and bring in coaches and players that stick to that philosophy. It looks like Rex is trying to build that with this team, ground and pound, complimented by a good defense, so far it's showing on the defensive side and on half of the offense, it remains to be seen with the passing game and some of the offensive play calling. I also think we have a potential Pro Bowl QB, strong arm, he is agile, smart, and tough, the question is can he be developed by BS personally I don't think BS is the right guy for the job but it's just my 0.02. I think with a better OC this offense would excel and help put this team over the top. I would like to add I'm not a casual observer or a naysayer, I have been watching football like many others on this board for over 30 years and I have been saying for some time now these are not the same old Jets, they have had a lot of success since about 1999.
I think we need to use our 1st 2 picks for NT and OL and then later maybe some depth for our DE or dare i say a punter.
And people complaining about rhodes not living up to his potential in these schemes give him some time. This is the first year of rex's defense and while its been great everyone is new to it. When people start becoming more comfortable with it it will only get better. Thats part of the reason why i think jenks is gone but our D still hasnt seem to fall apart on the lines. People are learning and Rex is good at fixing those problems
How many of those people do you really think are on this message board? The fact that people seek out this type of forum in itself means they are interested in educating themslves more with the goings-on of the Jets, not just for casual water-cooler banter on Monday mornings like you are referring to. You're looking down your nose at a population of fans that aren't really present on this forum.
I agree with NT and O-line. A nice pass rushing DE would be nice too.... That would put this defense way over the top, if we could get great pressure without bringing the house.
The Ginn play was on both of them, actually. It was a quarter zone coverage and Ginn split Revis and Rhodes' zones perfectly. Rex and Pettine both spoke of it. But it was a punk move for Rhodes to absolve himself of responsibility for it and I'm getting sick of his spots on NFLN right about now, so he needs to play at a much higher level if he's going to talk shit all week long.
You see the same threads as I do between Sunday and Tuesday during the season, don't you? I think lot of people seek out these forums because they don't know a lot of other Jets fans, and this is a place to anonymously say whatever you want about the team, valid or otherwise.
we need a pass rusher. we're second overall in D in yards per game but we're ranked 24th in sacks with only 14 this year. keep in mind we had 6 against miami if my memory serves. we get that dware type and climb into the top ten in sacks and this d will pretty much be unstoppable. also i'd like to see depth at the line positions just like everyone else has already said.
We need to get better at offensive coordinator and end game situations. No holes at all talent wise we've upgraded alot of positions. We have major coaching issue.
I think the D-line is by far the biggest concern for the jets going into the offseason next year. Ellis and jenkins are injury prone and there is a major lack of depth on that D-line. I really expect the jets to spend a first round pick on that d-line.
