I think the simple answer for the Phins game on Sunday is that Schotty got burned by Greene's fumble and then backed away from half the running plays sitting in front of him. That, and he simply wants to run a legendary passing offense more than anything. I said this in a PM to WSW yesterday concerning Schotty:

    I truly believe that.

Nobody has provided any valid arguments for the stupidity that was on display on Sunday when the Jets had the game on the line 2/7 and SFB OC called a pass play that failed, followed by another pass play that got our Rookie QB sacked and forced us into a do or die 4/15 that of course failed.

That series of playcalling was about as crappy as anything I have seen in YEARS. It SUCKED. Schotty insisted on passing when Schotty should have been looking to RUN, RUN, RUN. He is an idiot. His stupidity and his stubborn insistence on calling pass plays is a disaster for this team. He deserves to be fired immediately. Coach Ryan pledged that they were going to simplify the game plan for Sanchez - it worked great for 1 week. Then with the game on the line against the Fins, Schitty decided to ignore Ryan and do what Schitty wanted to do - which is usually the wrong decision. Schitty likes to make everything as complicated as he possibly can. So he puts his Rookie QB in unmanageable situations. Schitty deserves to be FIRED IMMEDIATELY.

Plenty of people have provided valid arguments. You just don't see them as valid because they do not end in the conclusion that Ryan should have fired BC on the spot.

Simplifying the game plan does not mean you never pass the ball. The Jets were being quite successful passing the ball in the second half. Miami has a terrible secondary and is better at stopping the run. Sanchez had two TD passes and ran for another set up by the passing game. All this has been pointed out to you, and in effect you say these are not valid points.

There has not been one valid argument made for Schitty's assinine playcalling when the game was on the line. 2/7 from the 12 w/plenty of time. Schitty stupidly chose to pass when there was no reason to do so. RUN THE BALL and get the 1st Down. That was all he had to do. But that was to simple for him - which is why he is a crappy OC. Schitty insists on making things far mor complicated than is necssary. The result is that his Rookie QB once again failed to execute and the team once again failed to win. If you are okay with that type of a result then go ahead and enjoy making up excuses for Schitty. If you want to wake up and smell the coffee however you should go back and look at the stupidity that Schitty exhibited when the Jets had the chance to win the game and Schitty let us all down. He should he fired. This is not the first time this clown has brain farted and cost us the game w/his terrible play calling.

It is hilarious to me that some of you continue to fail to understand that trying to pass the ball from inside the 15 yd line is much much different then opening up the offense when you have alot more field to play with. Arguing that the passing game was successful earlier in the game in different situations isn't a valid argument for passing the ball inside the 15 yd line. You have a rookie QB trying to throw into a compressed secondary. Also you run him out of the shotgun which is even stupider because you advertise that you are passing. The fact that some are incapable of grasping the simple stupidity of Schitty's decision making is pathetic and hilarious at the same time. Schitty couldn't grasp it either which is why his playcalling sucked, why the team failed to advance the ball to the endzone, why Sanchez got sacked and why the team lost the football game.

Schitty is a terrible OC. He should be fired. He cost us the game.

Wow. I have heard of the red zone. But never pass within the fifteen yard line?

    2-7-MIA 13 (4:08) 6-M.Sanchez pass short middle to 81-D.Keller to MIA 1 for 12 yards (28-G.Wilson).

1-1-MIA 1 (3:32) #75 Turner reports as eligible receiver. 6-M.Sanchez left end for 1 yard, TOUCHDOWN.

    2-8-MIA 19 (1:44) 6-M.Sanchez pass deep left to 17-B.Edwards for 19 yards, TOUCHDOWN.

    2-7-MIA 16 (5:58) 6-M.Sanchez pass deep right to 81-D.Keller for 16 yards, TOUCHDOWN.

Yeah, I guess on the pass from the 13, they didn't get a touchdown, only first and goal on the one. Next time, run it instead of picking up twelve, or you're gonna get fired.

Thats Great. Except he didn't pick up 12 einstein - HE FAILED TO PICK UP ANYTHING, WOUND UP GETTING HIS ROOKIE QB SACKED AND WOUND UP LOSING THE GAME. Yet another reason not to pass in that situation is that Miami knew he was going to pass - because that is what Schitty had done previously in the game. Yet another layer of stupidity for Schitty's poor performance.

Those were not calls made with the game on the line however. When it is 2/7 with the game on the line and 1:56 on the clock the smart OC is trying to use up clock, force MIA to burn TOs and to get into the Endzone. Throwing the ball is stupid in that situation because it doesn't eat up the clock and if you fail (as Schitty did) you wind up in obvious passing situation w/the game on the line and your rookie QB.

Go ahead and defend failure and stupidity all you like. The facts speak for themselves. Schitty opted to throw the ball instead of use TJ and the OL and advance the ball while burning up the clock. The result was predictable: The team went backwards and did not score. Feel free to defend losing all you like. Schitty Screwed the pooch BIG TIME.

Well, I do have more in common with Einstein than some people I can think of around here, but surely we digress...

The point I made was that WITHIN FIFTEEN YARDS OF THE GOAL LINE (where you said the Jets should NEVER throw the ball) the Jets picked up 12 yards on second down in an earlier series. So, they make a similar call in the last series, it doesn't work out, and you want BC fired. Because this time the play didn't work.

How did that running play in the third quarter work when they handed off to Green?

It's not like nothing can go wrong on a running play.

So, if a play call turns into a play that doesn't work out, even if the team has had great success with a similar approach, the OC should be fired.

Wow, tough crowd here. If you consider AS a crowd.

Just because we didn't score doesn't mean it was horrible play calling. The players have to execute too. If it was so predictable that we were going to pass in that situation, how could it be an obvious running situation at the same time? You're contradicting yourself.

Sanchez had already thrown 2 redzone TD's in the second half. Miami's weakness is there secondary. They had 2 rookie corners and two shitty safties out there. Burning the clock was a non-issue considering how well our defense was playing. The main objective was to score a TD and we'd had success through the air doing that up until that point.

Miami had the 4th ranked run D in the league and we were averaging slightly above 3 yards per carry. 2nd and 7 is hardly a given run down.

No one is defending the results. We passed and it didn't work. That doesn't mean it was a poor choice.

    Why are you so angry?

I agree that the play calling for the last 4 plays sucked. Should have ran at least on first down and see what happened. The bottom line is that after Ginn ran the first one back, we kicked it to him again, as if to say you were lucky and can't do that again on our team. Then, after he ran back the second one, we still kicked it to him a third time, which he almost got loose on. Inexcusable, in my mind. I guess we have to accept that these are football coaches, not brain surgeons.

I can't tell you why he's angry but I can tell you why I'm angry about the results. We lost two games to the Dolphins that we had no business losing. The Jets put the ball in Mark Sanchez hands and relied on him to be able to go out and beat the Jets primary rival, instead of doing the smart thing and using the team's rushing attack to control the game.

The Jets, in both games, acted like Mark Sanchez had been playing for a half dozen years and could just roll out of bed and beat the Dolphins. They did this even when his first performance against the Fins, which was fine, was not enough to win the game. We just saw him have another fine performance that was not good enough to win the game.

The Jets gameplan to beat the Dolphins this year was "give it to the rookie and let him light them up". He DID light them up and the Jets didn't win either game anyway. He'd have had to have been Peyton Manning or Tom Brady to win either of those two games given how everything else played out around him.

I'm so pissed off at the stupidity of the offensive staff for not recognizing that giving the ball to Mark Sanchez and telling him to beat the Dolphins with his arm was just not going to work, as it did not work in either game. The Jets should have done exactly what they did to Oakland last week in both of those games. They should have shortened the game by grinding it out on the ground and they should have let Sanchez pass as a counterpoint to a dominant rushing attack. That would have been enough in both games to stop the crazy 4th quarter crap and stop Sanchez from losing two shootouts in a row.

I'm further pissed off because even in a game in which the strategy was obvious (and working) the damn offensive staff could not resist the lure of asking Sanchez to throw the ball in lousy weather and get picked off 5 times, costing us the game. It's like Brian Schottenheimer hates Mark Sanchez and is setting him up to fail in the worst possible ways. Make him throw the ball when he doesn't have his feet under him in the wind and rain and just keep doing that until we lose. Give him the ball in his hands at the end of two games against the Dolphins and make him lose.

I look at the three losses in this streak and I swear it looks like Sanchez himself was calling those games. He's the kid who wants to be the star and the only way to do that RIGHT NOW is to throw the winning TD passes. Even if trying that is likely to cost you games in the process, which it has.

In both Dolphins games we were put in a situation where we had to pass the ball for different reasons. In the first game they moved the ball on us at will and we weren't running very well. In the second game obviously they scored two kickoff TD's and a fumble return TD.

I don't even really care for schotty, i hate on him all the time. This game was not on him.

    edit:
We tried running the ball against the fins this game too. We ran it 40 times but were only getting 3.1 yards per carry. When you're racking up yards like we were against the Raiders and Bills it's much easier to keep running 50 times or whatever. He was also burned by a fumble that cost us 6 during one of those 40 runs.

Sanchez didn't need to be Tom Brady or Peyton Manning at the end of the game. He just needed to repeat what he had already done twice in the last 28 minutes of regulation.

Is Brians Shcottenheimers main problem his last name.

I brought this up a few weeks ago and did not get the response I thought I would. As the poster just wrote Shotty Junior seems to like to play finesse offense when smash mouth is in order, he seems to shy away from it much in the same manner his old man would shy away from the creative playcalling his son seems to fall in love with so much.
I must assume that being a the son of Marty Schottenheimer must have been tough at times. One of the greatest regular season coaches of all time consistently having one postseason failure after another and another.
I really think Brians drawback can be that he does everything in his power to not get typecast as a clone of his old man. Problem is he has put so much space between how he coaches and how his dad did that is is hurting us. I know for sure we are 5-3 with a bit more smash mouth football, perhaps even 6-2.

It occurs to me this is a somewhat interesting discussion within the vacuum of this thread, but elsewhere there have been many posters talking about how great it was that Sanchez had a great game throwing it. The funny thing, as WSW and me were talking about yesterday, is that actually the run/pass balance was pretty even in the first and second halves. Sanchez had a couple of bad passes in the second quarter, and a fumble recovered by the Jets. And got a 57.8 rating.

THe fact is his passing success all occurred in the last twenty minutes of the game. Half his yardage in the whole game was achieved in the last two possessions.

That being the case, wasn't it reasonable for the OC to say, hey the passing game is working great. Second and seven... we picked up thirteen on second and seven the last time we were in the red zone.

So he called a pass play that didn't work. For that he should get fired?

    Tough crowd.

It might be the vowels in his name that cause the problem. Although I don't know his middle name, but that could very well be the problem.

I'm starting to think that Todd is not a reference at all to Richard Todd, but rather the name of the deity in some freakish cult that draws retards and inbreds into its folds.
