I think by seasons end every one is going to love Greene. I saw him play quite a bit at Iowa, my wife is a Hawkeye. He?s what I saw from him at Iowa. A North and South type runner. Excellent forward lean as he goes down. Always gets the extra yard, even when he is in space. You?ll notice when he is about to be forced out of bounds in the open, instead of going out of bounds he will lower his shoulder and punish the DB for the extra yard. Cool to watch but I wonder how his body is going to react with injuries over a season. Deceptive runner in space. After he has hit a DB a few times you will see them start to plant their feet for the impact. He will put a quick move on, and bust pass them for a long gainer. Tremendous vision. Seems to see the hole quickly and get to it with a good burst. Much faster then advertised. His 40 times aren?t great, but he brings the speed to the field with pads on. Very exciting player to watch. IMO the best pure running back in this draft. The raps on him are. Not a very good pass catcher. Looks awkward, and out of sync when he catches the ball. This is a problem in the NFL Wasn?t asked to pass block much at Iowa. Has a tendency to lunge and wiff. Also not a good trait in the NFL. Especially with a rookie QB who is having ball protection problems. Has the size and heart to be a good blocker. Just hasn?t done it. This can be taught Not the brightest bulb on the tree. He is an older rookie because he had academic in College, and was declared ineligible one season. Likes contact to much. Didn?t have health problems at Iowa because he could flat run over people. Don?t know if that is going to work in the NFL. Bottom line. If he can learn to pass block and catch out of the backfield, he could be a major impact player. If his learning problems hinder him, he will still be an excellent RB, but never really reach his true potential. I suspect he will learn slowly, and frustrate us some with dropped balls, and missed blocks, but over the long run is going to be a great back, and a fan favorite. Every body loves that big pop when a guy hit?s the hole. JMHO
Let's see what Woodhead can do. I liked what I saw in the preseason. He deserves a shot in the regular season. If he gets it done, then great! If he doesn't, then we're screwed anyway. Give woodhead the ball. Combined with Greene, we may be able to survive injuries.
Woodhead will see action at RB this week. Rex talked about him being at 83 in the backfield. He may still see some work at slot receiver, but I will wager he gets in some PT as a RB.
I thought Rex said something about we have some packages for him, possibly not want to tip his hat and say they are saving them for the Fins game.
I honestly thought common sense they would of gave Woodhead a number in the teens just for the simple fact that he might play RB/WR
green had what 6 carries in the first 5 weeks as a third rb? i wouldnt expect the wood to be much of a factor.
It's like having the opposite of Devin Hester. Edit: I only mean this in terms of jersey number. I don't want to start another combine/pro-day-based speculative argument on Woodhead's athleticism.
Woodhead is actually quicker and faster than Leon. He also generated better numbers than Leon in all his pro-day agility and leaping drills. He also has the best hands of any of the Jets' running backs. This is not to say that Danny is or ever will be a better player than Leon but one couldn't reasonably ask for a replacement better suited than Danny to effectively deliver the same types of offensive threats to opposing defenses that Leon did.
According to NFL uniform number rules and guidelines, players that play BOTH running back and receiver should receive a number in the 40s. When the Jets gave Woodhead number 83 and added him to the roster , it was thought he would be a slot receiver this year. However, now that he is a hybrid rb and receiver, the NFL has some rule about only changing one's number once a year, therefore, he has to keep 83.
Without pads at the combine, he is. Let's see it on the field with pads on and 350 pound DT's crashing down on him.
Definitely let him run once in a while. I would use him on screen passes, if this staff knows what that is.
Not trying to sell you anything but Woodhead has reportedly run 10.5 100 meter times when he ran track for a year. His 40 times at 10 yds, 20 yds and 40 yds were significantly faster than Leon's as well. Are you basing your assumptions on anything else other than your eyeball perception?
Are there Pro Day stats for Woodhead?? No. But in the preseason when Woodhead primarily returned kicks, he just didn't seem to cover ground as quickly as Leon.
