Biggest bunch of bullshit i've seen on here yet. If it meant that the Mets won the next 4 WS,you wouldn't give a shit what they spent on who. The Mets spend plenty, they just suck at it.
Ya, a win is a win. Who gives a fuck how much that win cost. At the end of the day, the Mets can't hold the Yankees dicks.
It's not the Corvette owner's fault the other guy decided to buy a Pathfinder (and probably riced it up, thinking it would help).
i'm real tired of all this trash talk between the mets and yank fans. and i'm not tryna add fuel to the fire, even though i may with this statement: i don't know why yank fans are bashing the mets for spending, when you guys had about 7-8 years of spending your cash in the most horrible ways in the form of bust free agent signings. it was only after all this money came off the books that you were able to sign 2 absolute studs in cc and teixeira this past year. just pointing that out....
Ya, and the Yankees have won a title post-1986. Maybe Beltran and Wright should get on blow? Mets 2010 champs?
i dont really want to turn this thread into a mets/yankees feud because we have about 3 others and its a bit off topic from this thread but ill say you are wrong. I guess im not a real sports fan, because if the mets went and spent 208 million dollars and matched the yankees, signed manny ramirez, started charging 9 dollars a beer to compensate, etc etc, I cant tell you id root for a different team, but i would grow somewhat disinterested. In fact id probably stop watching baseball. I think there are a few things about the sport that needs to be fixed and a salary cap is one of them. I absolutely fear the NFL losing the salary cap feature, and what I fear even more would be if the jets became the yankees of football. What tannenbaum does is impressive, because he has the same restrictions and limits that every other gm has in the game, he has a salary cap. In baseball you dont, and its all about who HAS more money, not who knows HOW to spend it. So your wrong, i guess im just a complete idiot for the fact that id be embarrassed that my team spends 70 million more dollars than every other top team in the league. Im even a bit unsettled by the mets being number two, but at least they meddle with the rest of the (top) teams. (once again, if you dont get it, i want a salary cap in baseball, so every team, inculding my own, has an exactly equal chance from a payroll standpoint.) To illustrate this point further, the big difference between my hate for the yankees and my hate for the giants is that I have to admire what the giants have done. They simply were a good team, cant deny it. I have no respect for what the yankees have done in recent years. I hate both teams, but in my view the giants have far more crediblity than I would ever be willing to give the yankees.
who the fuck brings a pathfinder to a car race? That's like bringing in Daniel Murphy at first, bringing in Tim Redding, Livian Hernandez, and then signing Ollie Perez to a 3 year 36 million deal.
Boo fucking hoo. The Mets spent more than $30 million more than the team in their division with the next highest payroll, and more than $100 million more than the team with the lowest payroll (who, by the way, finished ahead of them in the standings again.) If money spent were everything then the Mets would've had just as much of a competitive advantage as the Yankees did (keep in mind that, contrary to what some Mets fans seem to believe, the Yanks and Mets don't directly compete.)
Not gonna sink to the low comments in this thread (I am a Mets fan but root for NY teams regardless, its the fans that make it hard to do that in this city). Awful to hear that George is doing so poorly. I hope he is lucid enough to see the Yanks battle for another crown. Regardless of how George ran the business in the lean years of the 80's and early 90's, he managed to get it right and established a dominant team built through the farm system AND Free agency. The Yankees are a polarizing team....there is no middle ground; you love 'em or you hate 'em.....so I get the angst between the fans. Would love to see them rally one last time for George.
He's a committed owned which is great, and blah blah speaking ill of the dead and all that, but the dude was a major league asshole for a long time. If the Yankees lose and he dies immediately afterward, that'd be pretty awkward.
lol i was talking to my dad the other day and he said being a yankees fan would be like a parent being proud of their kid for winning the science fair when the parent bought the project from nasa. i thought that was an amusing analogy. for the record i could give fuck about what the yankees spend, but i do think it is a disgrace that baseball allows teams to spend whatever they want with no real penalty. that is a MLB problem though not a yankees problem.
yeah hes definitley a dick, but as a fan of the team i can look past that with ease due to his ridiculous passion for the franchise and winning. whats more akward, if they lose and he dies or they win and he dies? or if they win and he lives forever?
there we go, that was the analogy i was looking for all night! actually i thought i nailed it on the head a couple times but nobody wanted to throw me a bone. Yes, but unfortunately a salary cap wont happen in baseball in our lifetime which sucks for the game itself.
The Mets don't spend much money at all, and are constantly winning. They set the standard when it comes to how a franchise is supposed to be run.
Yankees credability? Which teams in the league match the longevity of their home grown talent? Look at the core of the team. Jeter,Posada,Pettitte,Rivera. How long have they been there? Even Arod,Damon and Matsui have been there for years. Then you have Joba,Hughes, cano,Melky all from home. Yankees signing tex,CC and Burnett is no different than the mets signing Beltran,Frod,Pedro or the Sox signing Smoltz or Bay. I don't need you to enjoy #27 for me to enjoy it,i'm just pointing out the ridiculous nature of this mentality. Fact is,the Mets spending would get them farther if they focused on winning rather than trying to form a small Latin country inside Queens.
I always laughed as a kid at the Boss' antics. At least when the Yankees were terrible he was amusing. I hope he gets to see one more and ride in the parade one last time. If ever an owner of a sports franchise deserved such a grand sendoff, it's him.
