Schotty has no idea what max protect is. Really. He pulls all his cute shit, but totally ignores tried and true elements. Shit that works. He needs to stop trying to be Einstein and start being a fucking football coach.
NO.. My argument is ONCE YOU HAVE A LEAD ON THE BILLS, RUN THE BALL, RUN THE CLOCK AND CALL IT A DAY.... You don't have to pass..... As I've said, Let Sanchez get his feet wet with the W and live for another day with some success Maybe Fitz grew up in Alaska.. I don't know - I bet he has more college games under his belt... What I do know is we have a very Green QB that never played in those conditions PLUS we had the lead... Take the WIN and go home and let him take baby steps.... NO EXCUSES - THE FACT IS HE IS A VERY YOUNG QB WITH LITTLE EXPERIENCE. Killing me that Football fans don't get this.... Flacco was babied ALL last year and Fans want to see Sanchez come out the 1st time in the wind and cold and throw all over WITH A LEAD!!!!! INSANE.... Bills fans I was with get it, they wer SHOCKED the Jets were throwing... WHY!!!!??? WHY WOULD YOU THOW???? Just to prove your QB is great??? The OP was right about Jets fans being mostly Idiots... Not you though.
Yes they were , they were stacking the middle of the field and forcing everything out wide or deep. One thing that troubled me was that Edwards was easily drawing double coverage and the safties were obviously cheating over to his side. Clowney was often lined up with what seemed one-on-one coverage . I would have liked to have seen them try at least one deep ball in his direction, for no other purpose then to pull at least one saftey back over away from Edwards.
You're completely correct. Not only were we running the ball at will, but we were also MISSING our 2-3 WR's. Additionally, our "#1" receiver has been on the team like 9 days. AND, the weather sucked ass! There was NO reason for the OC to call any passing plays when we were leading in the 2nd half. Consequently, all the turnovers caused a trickle down effect and the defense was on the field longer than they should have been, rendering them less effective than the first half. That's why it's a TEAM sport boys. If you think the coaching staff ISN'T to blame for this, you probably should stop watching football. The 2nd half was called like we were playing an elite team and we needed to stack on points before they eventually got back in the game. In actuality, we were playing a weak team and LET them back into the game. I also agree about not wanting to come on the board today. I was at the game last night, and some Jets fans are just ignorant assholes.....sad but true.
so if sanchez throws 5 td's yesterday instead of the 5 picks, you would be on here saying what a great qb we have, and how he doesnt need coaches? coaches call plays, while players either make or break them. sanchez screwed the plays up no matter how much reasonable spin you put on it. the coaches up in the box see way more than any of us arm chair qb's. the coordinators saw something we didnt or they would not have called the game the way they did. no matter how much self proclaimed football smarts we have, they see, and know things that we dont. hell they practiced all week for this opponent, we didnt. sanchez blew the game, so why argue and say he didnt? its not like they asked him to win the game, my god we ran the ball how many times? passed? maybe next week he will play better. i bet, even sanchez is smart enough to realize that he killed us yesterday. why cant everybody else?
i blame them to an extent for not reigning him in. HOWEVER he threw some terrible passes yesterday. the one that really bothered me wasnt even an int the one to keller when he threw against the grain while moving in the opposite direction and almost got it picked because it was a yard behind him. wtf is going on with keller btw, he dropped a couple balls yesterday and has been completely removed from the offense.
I think as soon as a player starts complaining about not getting enough touches they set themselves up for failure. Keller should stfu and wait his turn. if the ball gets there, catch it.
Flacco had a different style of offense, but he averaged 30 attempts a game. He threw more than Sanchez does.
I'm with you 100%. I don't see how football don't understand that there is a time to pass and a time not to, especially with a rookie QB on a windy against a bad team when the running game is setting records. It is even more troubling that the CS did not see this. You baby a rookie QB, particularly under those circumstances. Play football the way the CS said the Jets were going to play - run and play defense. No way Buffalo drives 80 yards twice in that game to win. And why can't fans realize that Sanchez can't throw a pick if a pass play is not called???? There are times, believe it or not, when a pass play is a stupid call. How about when you are inside the 10 yard line of a tie game and time is running out - do you pass? Do you pass in OT when you are in easy FG range??? When you lead by 10 against a bad offense with a back up QB and you have a rookie QB going into the wind with banged up receivers and the Bills can't stop the run at all, you do not pass.
Agree with you entirely. How are you going to establish the run without some kind of passing game? I believe this rests on the coaching staff and sanchez. Lets face it, sanchez made some BRUTAL passes yesterday.
It's not all Sanchez's fault, but it's absolutely stupid to say that he didn't have a huge hand in the loss. 5 picks??? And you're not blaming him?? That's asinine. Regardless, the coaches sucked today. The QB sucked (and forget the tipped ball argument...those tipped balls were bad passes that fell into the wrong hands, but nonetheless he couldn't hit an open receiver all day). The Jets lost to a far inferior team that had done everything they could to lose that game, and STILL won. All that with a QB who 99.9% of fans and coaches and anyone that knows a damn about football would say is worse than Sanchez. To try to take all the blame off of Sanchez is just flat out ridiculous. He deserves a ton of it. So does the coaching staff.
to all the jet fan base that have all this man love for sanchez, and him not being responsible for the game yesterday...i say this: hell lets forget a balanced attack, lets run the wildcat. why complain about the run pass ratio, it isnt even close before you all start crying about not running it enough. i guess it wasnt pennington's fault either for throwing game blowing interceptions, so why did you all want him gone? maybe we were better off with him, he sure as hell wouldnt force it where it cant be put. is sanchez so good looking that true football fans cant watch the game? because one thing is for sure....sanchez cost us the game, not the coaches!
Here is the breakdown of our possessions after we led 13-3. Jets led 13-3 with 7:31 left in the 2d Q. Did nothing to improve on that lead despite 3 possessions including a possession where the Jets had a 2-6 on the Buffalo 25 and Schotty calls a pass, Sanchez got sacked for a 7 yd loss. Feely then missed a 44 yd attempt. In the 3d Q the jets called a pass on a 2-11 from the NYJ 29. Sanchez threw to Keller and got picked. Leading to a Lindell FG. 13-6. Next possession the Jets get 2 first downs running the ball. So Schotty calls a pass on 1-10 from the Jets 41. Sanchez gets picked throwing long to BE. Leading to the Bills Scoring a TD. 13-13. Next Possession the Jets start at their own 27 pick up a first down on the ground. Then Sanchez throws 2 incomplete passes on 1st and 2d down before hitting TJ for a first down on a short pass. Next play TJ runs for 8 yds on 1st down. Then on 3-3 from the Buf 42 Sanchez throws incomplete. The Jets go for it on 4-3 and Schotty calls a pass. Sanchez gets picked again. Next Possession Jets start at their own 3. Sanchez converts on 3-5 pass to BE. Then TJ goes for 7yds on 1-10 and then he goes for 9yds on 2-3. 1-10 at the NYJ 34 and Leon goes for 2. 2-8 from the 36 and Schotty calls a pass – Sanchez is sacked back to the 20. Jets wind up punting, Rex makes his idiotic challenge over a 6 yd spot and the Jets lose the TO. Bills drive down and Lindell chokes on the game winning FG. OT begins w/a stupid penalty for unnecessary roughness on Ihedigbo. But the Jets move the ball well. 2-9 MS to BE for 22yds. 1-10 Leon goes for 33 yds to the buf 29, then 1-10 Leon goes for 5 to the Buf 24. Then Hartsock brainfarts and gets called for holding – 10 yd penalty. Then 3-13 from the Buf 32 Schotty calls a freaking pass play – MS Incomplete. 4-13 from the Buf 32. Weatherford can’t do his job and bungles the snap. Next possession the Jets start at their own 8 and Keller brainfarts w/a false start. 1-14 Leon for 2. 2-12 MS to Leon for 6. 3-6 MS inc. to DK. Punt. Fitzpatrick gets picked. Next possession is Jets ball on the NYJ 46. DBrick brainfarts w/a false start. 1-15 TJ for 5. 2-10 Schotty calls pass and MS is incomplete to DK. 3-10 Schotty calls a pass and MS gets picked yet again. Bills take over and Calvin Pace brainfarts w/a defensive holding call that puts Buf in Fg position after which Lindell finally puts us out of our misery.
NOT early in the year on windy cold days with the lead... They also nearly set a record for Rushing attempts in a season which set up the pass as the season played on and as their QB gained confidence. http://www.nfl.com/videos/new-york-jets/09000d5d81397a41/Playbook-Bills-vs-Jets-recap
After digesting the loss, I agree with JWWS. Schotty gets the blame. We went away from the run which was working great, and we started trying to pass in bad weather, hence the INTS. I think that is the telling story of the game.
I've been thinking about this the last couple of days and this loss was definitely on Brian Schottenheimer. He has a disturbing pattern now that has developed over his time with the Jets where they play bad teams that cannot stop the run and lose anyway because he won't just take what the opponent obviously cannot stop. Last year the Jets lost to the Raiders 16-13 (same damn score) on a day when they were rushing for 242 yards. Why? Because Schotty had them throw the ball 38 times and Brett Favre got picked twice, giving the Raiders field position they couldn't have gotten any other way and directly leading to the loss. It wasn't a good day for Favre at all, probably one of his worst of the season and yet Schotty just kept rolling along as if nothing negative was happening. The Jets throw the ball too often when they are matched up against teams that cannot stop the run. There's no excuse for that. If a team can't stop the run you just run them into the ground. That's an NFL golden rule that is absolutely unbreakable and yet Schotty acts as if it does not exist. The Jets throw more interceptions and fewer touchdowns as a ratio than 90% of the teams in the NFL since Schotty took over. This is his fault.
Actually the first pick Favre threw was in the end zone. Didn't give them field position just stopped us from scoring. The second pick was a bomb where he overthrew Coles by about 10 yards. Niether pick led to field position that helped the Raiders score.
