On a scale of 1-10 with Jay Cutler being a 10 and Chad Pennington being a 1, how would you guys rate Sanchez's arm strength, i am going to say it is about a 7 which i would say is comparable to Phillip Rivers
7.5.... he's got a good arm...enough to make all the throws you need to in the NFL, and more importantly..he's accurate. people were knocking his arm strength pre draft/when he got drafted but the dude can fling it (sans that hail mary lololololol) i dint realize that till i watched his USC highlights but man i was impressed. guys like stafford, cutler and favre (still) have those cannon arms but it doesn't mean anything if you can't put the ball where it needs to be. i think phillip rivers has a better arm though. his deepball is out of control. he's probably an 8.5
Maybe like a 6. That hail mary pass was a laugher. His arm is definitely good enough to get the job done though.
I am not saying this is an issue, it is simply just an opinion question, i was asked by my roomate who is an eagles fan the same question and i said a 7, just wanted to know what fellow jet fans thought
I say 7. He can launch it down the field, and put it where it needs to be for a great catch. He can hit the slants, the outs, etc. he can make all the throws. that's a 7. i wish this wasn't a private poll so i could see who put 5 and below. fucking gays.
he was trying to throw the ball too high. You want to throw it high in that situation but he was too far away to throw it as high as he did. Sanchez has an excellent arm. I'm anxious to see what happens when the weather turns cold, he struggled in the rain a few weeks back and as the wetaher gets colder and the ball becomes slicker I want to see if he still has the same zip.
Ironically, at Jets upstate camp this summer, Rich Cimini wrote after they had some rain up there that Sanchez throws a better wet ball than Clemens. How ironic is that since Sanchez is from southern Ca. and Clemens is from Oregon.
Sometimes it seems like he has a bit too strong an arm. I'd like to see him get a little better at the short touch pass, but really, no complaints. He throws a good deep ball.
That is funny but Sanchez has big hands which should help in the elements but against Ten the ball kept slipping out as he tried to throw. Hopefully he gets over that but we'll see.
Excellent observation MBB. He's still growing up as evidenced by that persistent case of Adolescent Acne (Where Jessica when you need her..). He'll get bigger and stronger definetly as the years go on. He might be done growing taller, but not larger or stronger..
I think that based on this poll you are underestimating romo's arm. I think both Romo and Sanchez are about a 7 arm strength-wise.
He's got plenty of zip on short/intermediate routes and puts just enough air under his deep ball I'll give him an 8, the ball doesn't fly out of his hands like Cutler, Favre and Stafford but he can make every throw
If you're drawing this conclusion from the Monday Night game, it was pretty obvious he was pretty jittery because he kept over-throwing his receivers. It was his first National Televised game, so he was a little bit too amped, but he still managed to get comfortable enough to throw some big passes down the stretch.
Right now it's probably a 7-7.5 right around where Tom Brady started out, but with plenty of offseason work he got his arm to be in the 8.5 category.
